A series of experiments was conducted to examine characteristics of a grooved flat-strip heat pipe having multiple heat sources. The inner grooves of the heat pipe have the aspect ratio of 1 to $2.5(0.42{\times}1.05$ mm) whose pitch was 0.6 mm. Four block heaters ($10{\times}20$ mm) were placed in the evaporator section at intervals of 20 mm and six different heating modes were tested. The maximum surface heat flux of 80 $W/cm^2$ was achieved while the operating temperature was kept below $100^{\circ}C$, In the nearest heating mode (from the condenser location), the heat pipe exhibited more stable temperature distribution than the far heating mode where the heaters is located furthest from the condenser.
용착금속의 미세조직은 크게 Acicular ferrite(AF), Ferrite with aligned second phase(FS), Primary ferrite(=Grain boundary Ferrite) 등으로 나눌 수 있다.

This paper presents a new generation of system for pressure vessel and shipbuilding. Typical pressure vessel and ship building weld joint preparations are either traditional V, butt, fillet grooves or have narrow or semi narrow gap profiles. The fillet and U groove are prevalently used in heavy industries and shipbuilding to melt and join the parts. Since the wall thickness can be up to 6" or greater, welds must be made in many layers, each layer containing several passes. However, the welding time for the conventional processes such as SAW(Submerged Arc Welding) and FCAW(Flux Cored Arc Welding) can be many hours. Although SAW and FCAW are normally a mechanized process, pressure vessel and ship structures welding up to now have usually been controlled by a full time operator. The operator has typically been responsible for positioning each individual weld run, for setting weld process parameters, for maintaining flux and wire levels, for removing slag and so on. The aim of the system is to develop a high speed welding system with multitorch for increasing the production speed on the line and to remove the need for the operator so that the system can run automatically for the complete multi-torch multi-layer weld. To achieve this, a laser vision sensor, a rotating torch and an image processing algorithm have been made. Also, the multitorch welding system can be applicable for the fine grained steel because of the high welding speed and lower heat input compare to a conventional welding process.
The purpose of this study is to develop a Half Nozzle Repair(HNR) process to prevent the leakage from welds on small bore piping in Reactor Coolant System. The Codes & Standards of tempered bead and design requirements of J-Groove welds are reviewed. Automatic machine GTAW welding and machining equipments are developed to perform HNR process. Single pass welding and overlay welding equipments are conducted in order to obtain the optimal temper bead welding process parameters with Alloy 52M filler wire. Coarse grain heat affected zone(CGHAZ) is formed by rapid cooling rate in heat affected zone after welding. Accordingly, a proper temper bead technique is required to reduce CGHAZ in 1-Layer of welds by 2- and 3-Layers. Mock-up tests show that the developed HNR process is possible to meet ASME Code & Standard requirements without any defect.
Toshiba has developed a laser peening system for PWRs(pressurized water reactors) as well after the one for BWRs(boiling water reactors), and applied it for BMI(bottom-mounted instrumentation) nozzles, core deluge line nozzles and primary water inlet nozzles of Ikata Unit 1 and 2 of Shikoku Electric Power Company since 2004, which are Japanese operating PWR power plants. Laser pulses were delivered through twin optical fibers and irradiated on two portions in parallel to reduce operation time. For BMI nozzles, we developed a tiny irradiation head for small tubes and we peened the inner surface around J-groove welds after laser ultrasonic testing (LUT) as the remote inspection, and we peened the outer surface and the weld for Ikata Unit 2 supplementary. For core deluge line nozzles and primary water inlet nozzles, we peened the inner surface of the dissimilar metal welding, which is of nickel base alloy, joining a safe end and a low alloy metal nozzle. In this paper, the development and the actual application of the laser peening system for PWR power plants will be described.
Many components in the assembly section of Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor are made of good corrosionresistant 316 LN Stainless Steel material. To avoid self-welding of the components with the coolant sodium at elevated temperature, hardfacing is inevitable. Ni-based colmonoy-5 is used for hardfacing due to its lower dose rate by Plasma Transferred Arc process due to its low dilution. Since Ni-Cr-B-Si alloy becomes very fluidic while depositing, the major height of the weld overlay rests inside the groove. Hardfacing is also done over the plain surface where grooving is not possible. Therefore, grooved and ungrooved hardfaced specimens were prepared at different travel speeds. Fe content at every 100 ㎛ of the weld overlay was studied by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and also the micro hardness was determined at those locations. A correlation between iron dilution from the base metal and the micro hardness was established. Therefore, if the Fe content of the weld overlay is known, the hardness at that location can be obtained using the correlation and vice-versa. A new correlation between micro hardness and dilution coefficient is obtained at different locations. A comparative study between those specimens is carried out to recommend the optimum travel speed for lower dilution.
The outer race of CV(constant velocity) joint is an important load-supporting automotive part, which transmits torque between the transmission gear box and driving wheel. The outer race is difficult to forge because its shape is very complicated and the required dimensional tolerances are very small. Traditional warm and cold forging methods have their own limitations to produce such a complex shaped part; warm forging requires complex system with relatively higher manufacturing cost, while cold forging is not applicable to materials with limited formability. Therefore, multistage forging may be advantageous to produce complex shaped parts. In order to build a multistage forging system, it is necessary to characterize mechanical properties in response to system design parameters such as temperature, forging speed and reduction. For the analysis of formability of multistage forging process, finite element method(FEM) has been used for the process analysis. As a model case, a constant velocity (CV) joint forging process is analyzed by FEM, since CV joint has a complex shape and also its required dimensional tolerances are very tight. The data acquired by FEM is compared with operational forging data obtained from an industrial production line. Based on this comparative analysis, multistage forging process for CV joints is proposed.
The present study has been conducted to analytically investigate the thermal control performance of variable conductance heat pipe(YCHP) with axial grooves. The condenser port of the YCHP is occupied by a inert gas in which the concentration of gas is varied with the operation temperature and the heat transport capacity is thus varied with the operating temperature due to the variation of inert gas concentration. In this study, numerical evaluation for the thermal control of the YCHP with axial grooves is made from the 1st order diffusion model that considers the diffusive expansion of inert gas by concentration gradient. Ammonia is used as a working fluid and Nitrogen as a control gas in the Aluminum tube. As a result, the thermal performance of YCHP based on diffusion model has been compared with that of YCHP from flat front model. Additionally, it is found that the concentration of inert gas is distributed in the condenser region of YCHP with axial grooves.

In this report, several fabrication techniques for the formation of various nanochannels (with $SiO_2$, Si, or Quartz) are introduced. Moreover, simple fabrication technique for generating $SiO_2$ nanochannels without nanolithography is presented. By using different nanochannels, the degree of stretching DNA molecule will be evaluated. Finally, we introduce a nanometer scale fluidic channel with electrodes on the sidewall of it, to detect and analyze single DNA molecule. The cross sectional shape of the nanotrench is V-groove, which was implemented by thermal oxidation. Electrodes were deposited through both sidewalls of nanotrench and the sealing of channel was done by covering thin poly-dimethiysiloxane (PDMS) polymer sheet.
