This study is (a) to describe the history of Total Quality Management (TQM) generated in the industry, health care service, and nursing society ; (b) to define the concept, total quality management including the definition of quality ; (C) to explain the each principle of TQM theory developed by main theorists, E. Deming, J. Juran, and B. Crosby ; (d) to give the examples related to TQM implementation at the health care organization ; and (e) to mention the extent to which the health care organizations are able to evaluate their cultural organization toward TQM and have had the way to measure the effect of TQM implementation. TQM referred to Continuous Quality Improvement(CQI), Quality Improvement(QI), and Total Quality Improvement(TQI), was not recognized by experts in the United States industry, but by economists in Japan until the end of the 1970's. However, the United States' government led to introduce the principles of TQM to general industry as well as health care service area so that TQM became a main philosophy to manage the organizations in health care service. TQM is a structured, systematic process for creating organization-wide participation in planning and implementing continuous improvement in quality. E. Deming established the "Chain reaction in Quality" and the fourteen point of TQM. The Chain reaction in quality is to describe the relationship among the reduction of waste, rework, and delay, quality improvement, customer satisfaction, and productivity. There are fourteen points to explain the principles of TQM by E. Deming. Juran defined the "Quality Trilogy" to improve the level of quality in any organization. Quality Trilogy has three steps such as quality planning, quality control, and quality improvement for implementing the TQM projects. Crosby describes his TQM theory by establishing "Four Absolutes" and "Fourteen steps in TQM" implementation. Until now, most healthcare organizations have made efforts to organize the TQM task team and to implement TQM principles with various issues. There are three priorities to select the TQM issues : High-volume, High-risk, and Problem-prone. However, there is no absolute, credible measurement yet to evaluate the effects of TQM implementation in health care organization regardless of the classification of health care organizations, geographical background, and social influence. Thus, developing the evaluation way in terms of TQM is the foremost task in health service area. The most important thing for TQM implementation in the organization is to settle up the concept, cultural transformation from traditional management toward quality.
Ionic dissociation rates of $\alpha$-chlorobenzyl ethyl ether in each solvent of toluene-$d_8$ and carbon tetrachloride were measured by the method of dynamic NMR spectroscopy. The spin system of these 1H NMR spectra was $AB_3$. The theoretical spectrum was calculated by computer simulation of dynamic NMR spectra, which agreed very well with observed spectra. From this computer simulation, the ionic dissociation rate constant k was obtained, and by Eyring plot with it, slope and intercept length was gained, from which kinetic parameters were calculated. The easiness of ionic dissociation depended upon solvent polarity. Activation enthalpy was 4.7 kcal/mole in toluene-$d_8$, 10.7 kcal/mole in carbon tetrachloride, and activation entropy was -35. 8 e.u. in toluene-$d_8$, -14.4 e.u. in carbon tetrachloride. It was understood that though the ${\Delta}H^{neq}$ value was small, this ionic dissociation had an easier procession in nonpolar solvents with increasing temperatures. Considering that the ionic dissociation could be thought as the first step of $S_N1$ mechanism, attention might be paid to the results that the value of ${\Delta}S^{neq}$ had a large negative value in comparison with a small ${\Delta}H^{neq}$.
It is difficult for civil engineer to apply composite materials of laminated type to structure for civil construction because of complicated theory although those have much merit. A simple method by which one can predict "exact" values of the natural frequency of vibration of laminated plates is presented. Many laminates with particular orientations have negligible values of $B_{16}$ and $B_{26}$ as the number of plies increases. Such laminates, with $D_{16}$ = $D_{26}$ ->0 can be solved by the same equation as for the special orthotropic laminates(1991,1995). If the quasi-isotrpic constants are used, It is possible to simplify analysis procedure since the equations for isotropic plates can be used. Use of some coefficients can produce "exact" values for laminates with such configuration. This coefficient, in fact, represents the effect of the anisotropy of the laminate. D. H. Kim proposed to use a correction factor, he developed, to produce "exact" solution out of the approximate solution obtained by using the quasi-isotropic constants(1995). In this paper, the fiber orienation studied is [$\alpha$/$\beta$/$\beta$/$\gamma$/$\alpha$/$\alpha$/$\beta$]r, with $\alpha$=-$\beta$, and $\gamma$${\gamma}$=$0^{\circ}$ or $90^{\circ}$ and the above-mentioned method is used to obtain the natural frequencies of plates with such orientations, and detailed result is presented for the use of engineers.nted for the use of engineers.
In the United States, a number of ocean outfalls discharge primary treated effluent into deep sea water and contribute for more efficient wastewater treatment. The long multiport diffuser connected by long pipe from a treatment plant discharge wastewater into deep water due to the steep slope of the sea bed. However, Plume discharged from the diffuser can have significant impacts on coastal communities and possibly immediate consequence on public health. Therefore, there have been growing interests about the dynamics of plume in the vicinity of the ocean outfalls. It is expected that the ocean outfall should be considered for more efficient and reliable wastewater treatments as soon as possible around coastal area in South Korea. A number of studies of plume ynamics have used various models to predict plume behavior. However, in many cases, the calculated values of plume behavior are in significantly poor agreement with realistic values. Therefore, in this study, it is recommended that improvements should be made in the application of the plume model to more simulate the actual discharge characteristics and ocean conditions. It should be noted that input parameters in plume models reflect realistic ocean conditions like waves as well as currents. In this study, as one of the new parameters, current and long wave-influenced plume rise and initial dilution have been taken into account by using simple linear wave theory under some specific assumptions for more reliable plume behavior description. Among the improved plume models approved by EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the RSB(Roberts-Snyder-Baurngartner) and UM(Updated Merge) models were chosen for the calculation of plume behavior, and the variation calculated by both models on the basis of long period wave was compared in terms of plume rise and initial dilution.
This study was conducted to investigate the variables affecting the performance of hammer mills by the theoretical and dimensional analysis, and evaluate the power requirements of hammer mills for farm use in Korea. From the theoretical analysis, 16 variables affecting the performance of hammer mills were defined. In order to develop the mathematical relationships among the variables, the dimensional analysis was made for power requirements and $12{\pi}$ parameters were obtained. For the evaluation of the power requirements of hammer mills, approximate rates of grinding for 1HP, 3HP, 5HP, 6HP, 8HP, and 10HP were analyzed. Then, the fineness of grinding recommendation and average feeding rate of grain for livestock which is native cattle, dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, broilers, and layers, were estimated. Finally number of livestock feeding shelled corn and barley were estimated from the above for one hour's hammer mill operation having the various power requirements. From this study it is known that 5HP is considered as an enough power for feed grinding of any kinds of livestock of Korean farm, as far as the grinding capacity is concerned.
We have investigated optical and structural properties of $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN and $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N/GaN/Al_{0.15}Ga_{0.85}N/GaN$ heterostructures (HSs) grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition, by means of Hall measurement, high-resolution X-ray diffraction, and temperature- and excitation power-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. A strong GaN band edge emission and its longitudinal optical phonon replicas were observed for all the samples. At 10 K, a 2DEG-related PL peak located at ${\sim}\;3.445\;eV$ was observed for $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN HS, while two 2DEG peaks at ${\sim}\;3.42$ and ${\sim}\;3.445\;eV$ were observed for $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N/GaN/Al_{0.15}Ga_{0.85}N/GaN$ HS due to the additional $Al_{0.15}Ga_{0.85}N$ layers. Moreover, the emission intensity of the 2DEG peak was higher in $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N/GaN/Al_{0.15}Ga_{0.85}N/GaN$ HS than in $Al_{0.3}Ga_{0.7}N$/GaN HS probably due to an effective confinement of the photo-excited holes by the additional $Al_{0.15}Ga_{0.85}N$ layers. The 2DEG-related emission intensity decreased with increasing temperature and disappeared at temperatures above 150 K. To investigate the origin of the new 2DEG peaks, the energy-band structure for multiple AlGaN/GaN HSs were simulated and compared with the experimental data. As a result, the observed high- and low-energy peaks of 2DEG can be attributed to the spatially-separated 2DEG emissions formed at different AlGaN/GaN heterointerfaces.
Chloride($Cl^-$) channels play critical roles in cell homeostasis and its specific functions such as volume regulation, differentiation, secretion, and membrane stabilization. The presence of these channels have been reported in all kinds of cells and even in frog oocytes. These essential role of $Cl^-$ channels in cell homeostasis possibly play any role in egg homeostasis and in the early stage of development, however, there has been no report about the presence of $Cl^-$ channel in the mammalian oocyte. This study was performed to elucidate the presence of $Cl^-$ channels in hamster eggs. When allowing only $Cl^-$ to pass through the channel of the egg membrane by using impermeant cation such as N-methyl-D-glucamine(NMDG), single channel currents were recorded. These channel currents showed typical long-lasted openings interrupted by rapid flickering. Mean open $time({\tau}o)$ was 43${\pm}$10.14 ms(n=9, at 50 mV). The open probability(Po) was decrease with depolarization. The current-voltage relation showed outward rectification. Outward slop conductance(32${\pm}$5.4 pS, n=22) was steeper than the inward slop conductance(10${\pm}$1.3 pS). Under the condition of symmetrical 140 mM NaCl, single channel currents were reversed at 0 mV(n=4). This reversal potential(Erev) was shifted from 0 mV at 140 mM concentration of internal NaCl(140 mM [Na+]i) to 9.8${\pm}$0.5 mV(n=4) at 70 mM [Na+]i and 11.5${\pm}$1.9 mV at 280 mM [Na+]i(n=4) respectively, strongly suggesting that these are single $Cl^-$ channel currents. To examine further whether this channel has pharmacological property of the $Cl^-$ channel, specific Cl channel blockers, IAA-94(Indanyloxyacetic acid-94) and DIDS(4, 4'-diisothiocyan ostillben- 2-2'disulfonic acid) were applied. IAA-94 inhibited the channel current in a dose-dependent manner and revealed a rapid and flickering block. From these electrophysiological and pharmacological resluts, we found the novel $Cl^-$ channel present in the hamster oocyte membrane. The first identification of $Cl^-$ channel in the hamster oocyte may give a clue for the further study on the function of $Cl^-$ channel in the fertilization and cell differentiation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of case-based learning about infants and toddlers on healthcare department students, using a video in an emergency care environment. A total of 57 students from a healthcare department of D university in J city were enrolled. They were divided into two groups: The experimental group (n=29) and the control group (n=28). This study is pre-post designed with a non-equivalent control group. The experimental group received a 1-week education for a duration of 3 weeks (3 sessions in total) with 180 minutes per session. The control group received a traditional curriculum of lecture. Before and after the education, we measured the knowledge and skill confidence of emergency care toward infants and toddlers, the academic self-efficacy, and problem solving ability. Data collection and intervention were carried out from November to December of 2014. Data were analyzed with x2-test, paired t-test, unpaired t-test with SPSS version 20.0 Program. The experimental group showed a significantly higher improvement of skill confidence of emergency care toward infants and toddlers (P<001), as well as preferred task difficulty among sub-items of academic self-efficacy (p=.029), approach avoidance style (P=.001), and problem solving confidence (p=.040) among sub-items of problem solving ability on preference compared with the control group. In this study, a case-based learning was verified to be an effective teaching method to enhance professional competency of healthcare department students. The findings from this study suggest that a case-based learning using various educational contents should be developed, expanded, and carried out to promote better learning.
This paper was set out to study the structure of the career occupational mobility in the early and rapid phase of industrialization in Korea. By analyzing the individual life histories regarding occupational mobility and achievement, I propose a model of yearly career mobility of Korean men and Women during the period of 30 years between 1954 and 1983. With the occupational classification scheme of 5 groups - Upper Nonmanual, Lower Nonmanual, Self Employed, Manual, Farm - the mobility pattern in the person-year mobility table analyzed can be characterized primarily by the strong influence of immobility. The degree of immobility, however, is different by the occupational groups. The absolute amount of immobility can be summarized as being U-shaped. Overall, the pattern of mobility can be explained best by the concept of occupational distance. I then propose a model of relative career occupational mobility pattern that combines the conceptual and theoretical basis and the methodological rigor. The model is based on the notion of the reproduction of inequality, the labor market context, and the life history perspective. The model encompasses the 6 conceptual explanatory factors such as persistence effect, ceiling effect, traditional sector effect, nonmanual occupation effect, alternative mobility channel effect, and occupational distance effect, as well as the effects of both origin and destination occupations. The relative pattern of career mobiliity in Korea can be characterized by the following six findings. First, the persistence effect on the diagonal cells of the mobility table is dominant. Second, a clear evidence of the negative effect of occupational distance between nonmanual occupations and manual and farm occupations is found. Third, the out-mobility from farming took place regardless of the destination occupations. Fourth, the internal mobility within the nonmanual occupation block is high and bi-directional, and is exclusive against other occupations. Fifth, the 'self employed' occupation is serving a peculiar function in both inflow and outflow pattern. Last, the relative pattern of career occupation mobility is asymmetrical in terms of the upward and downward mobility.
