  • Currently, SEAMCAT has been widely used as a tool to evaluate the effects of interference among a variety of wireless communication systems. This supports various channel propagation models, all of which are based on some statistical models for the channel propagation and do not exploit any specific terrain characteristics. Thus it is not appropriate for assessing the effects of interference between wireless systems, given some specific terrain features. In order to overcome this limit in its use, it is necessary to extend the capability of SEAMCAT to support a channel propagation model which takes into account terrain informations. The ITU-R P.526 is a familiar channel propagation model which calculates the path loss considering the terrain features. In this paper, we present an enhanced version of SEAMCAT which supports the ITU-R P.526 and provide a few examples of interference evaluation using it.

  • Problems such as a limited frequency resource and interference between adjacent bands have been continuously raised because of rapidly developing wireless technology and communication service. In order to solve that problem, government has been developed and operating the Spectrum Management Intelligent System(SMIS). This paper compares the results simulated by SMIS with the ATDI and the Matlab coded provided by ITU-R for verification of SMIS operating for the public interests. The Recommendation ITU-R P.526, P.1546, and P.1812 among the propagation model loaded in SMIS were chosen because of the relation to the broadcasting service. The comparison and analysis result shows that the outputs derived by SMIS has the small error of less than 1 dB. This research could be utilized for the policy establishment and R&D for the frequency allocation and the interference between adjacent bands.

  • The ITU-R model for cross-polarization, which is accurate enough in real rainfall environments, is proposed in this paper. By comparing this with measurement data and the ITU-R model, we have also derived a prediction model for rain cross-polarization applicable upto millimeter wave band.

  • In this paper, ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem according to ITU-R M.1842-1 recommendation Annex1 is investigated and simulated. At first, standardization and technical trend of VHF maritime mobile communication are introduced. The ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem defined in the Annex1 should support 28.8Kbps bit transmission rate within 25KHz frequency bandwidth. We describe the system model and simulation process of ${\pi}/4$-DQPSK modem transmitter and receiver design with RRC(Root Raised Cosine) transmitter and receiver filter. Then we suggest various graphical simulation results(time domain signals, constellation, power spectral density according to roll-off factor, eye diagram), and show simulated BER performance of the modem. From the simulation results, it is shown that roll-off factor of RRC filter affects to BER performance according to SNR and the designed simulation model meets the spectrum mask requirement suggested in ITU-R M.1842-1 recommendation.

  • The prediction for vegetation attenuation using the RET model recommended in the ITU-R requires six RET input parameters. Among these, 4 parameters are related to the scattering characteristics of vegetation. To extract these parameters, two methods can be used. One is to extract the parameters by curve fitting of the measured vegetation-attenuation curve with the RET prediction model, and the other is to use the additional phase function measurement data. In the former method, fitting is quite complex and it does not result in the unique results in some cases. In addition, the extracted parameters lack the physical meaning as well. Thus, in this paper, the measurement method of phase function, and the method of extracting the RET model parameters which lead to more accurate and physically more meaningful results are presented. The extracted RET model parameters are also presented. The RET modeling method, measurement data, and the extracted RET model parameters presented in this paper were submitted to the ITU-R meeting in 2006, and adapted for ITU-R report and recommendation P.833.

  • Recently, the digital television transition from analog television to digital television has been progressing in terrestrial broadcasting. As a result of the DTV transition, additional reassignments and deployments of TV White spaces (TVWS) caused by co-channel interference (CCI) were needed. In this paper, we investigate the TVWS caused by CCI using Longley-Rice and ITU-R P.1546 propagation model, which are the most widely-used propagation model. In addition, we analyze the service coverage radius and CCI radius according to the height of transmitter antenna and transmitting power. The results show that the ratios of CCI radius to service coverage radius in Longley-Rice and ITU-R P.1546 propagation model are about 2.54 and 2.07, respectively.

  • Currently, there is a lack of suitable prediction model and measurement data for vegetation loss. So in this paper, vegetation loss measurement has been performed for seven different tree-species, including dawn-redwood tree, plane tree, pine tree and hymalaya cedar in the frequency range of $1.0{\sim}6.0\;GHz$, for the two years, from 2005 to 2006 years. And then, extraction and revision for the proposed RET model input parameters in ITU-R P.833 has been performed. The key results of measurement and RET modeling has been presented in this paper. The results of this study have been adapted for ITU-R recommendation at the ITU-R meeting in 2005 and 2006.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of transmitter and receiver of W-CDMA system using the channel coding and space time code in downlink over ITU-R realistic channel model. We can improve the data rate and the reliability of communications by a channel code, and we can get a diversity gain by using the space time code over fading channels. We also apply the RAKE receiver to improve a performance in multi-path fading channel environment.

  • In this paper, using the Rec. ITU-R P.1546 explaining a propagation prediction model in the VHF and UHF bands, we propose the analytical methodology for calculating the service distance and field strength for analogue and digital TV receivers. From the derived formulation of the receiver field strength, some computation results are presented and discussed in terms of the equivalent level of service caused by analogue to digital TV conversion. The suggested method is also applicable to the analysis of frequency coordination or compatibility from unwanted signal in VHF and UHF bands.

  • Absorption of microwave radio frequency signal by atmospheric rain is prevalent at frequencies above 10 GHz. This paper presents the studies on rain attenuation at 18 GHz for 3.2 km experimental link between Khumdang (Korea Telecom, KT station) and Icheon (National Radio Research Agency, RRA station). The received signal data for rain attenuation and rain rate were collected at 10 second intervals over a three year periods from 2013 to 2015. Out of several models, the paper present discussion and comparison of ITU-R P.530-16 model, Moupfouma model, Da Silva Mello model along with suitable rain attenuation prediction method. The limitation of research lies on the experimental system that is set up in only one location, however, the preliminary results indicate the application of suitable 1-minute rain attenuation model for specific site. The method provides useful information for microwave engineers and researchers in making decision over the choice of most suitable rain attenuation prediction in terrestrial links.
