Development and Evaluation of Shared Medical Decision-Making Scale for End-of-Life Patients in Korea (한국형 공유 의료적 의사 결정 측정도구 개발 및 평가)

  • Purpose: The study was done to develop a shared decision-making scale for end-of-life patients in Korea. Methods: The process included construction of a conceptual framework, generation of initial items, verification of content validity, selection of secondary items, preliminary study, and extraction of final items. The participants were 388 adults who lived in one of 3 Korean metropolitan cities: Seoul, Daegu, or Busan. Item analysis, factor analysis, criterion related validity, and internal consistency were used to analyze the data. Data collection was done from July to October 2011. Results: Thirty-four items were selected for the final scale, and categorized into 7 factors explaining 61.9% of the total variance. The factors were labeled as sharing information (9 items), constructing system (7 items), explanation as a duty (5 items), autonomy (4 items), capturing time (3 items), participation of family (3 items), and human respect (3 items). The scores for the scale were significantly correlated among shared decision-making scale, terminating life support scale, and dignified dying scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the 34 items was .94. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that the shared decision-making scale has a good validity and reliability when used for end-of-life patients in Korea.

Development of the Program Evaluation Measurement of Continuing Nursing Education Programs (간호사 보수교육 프로그램 평가도구 개발)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a measurement tool for evaluation of continuing nursing education programs and to verify its validity for effective management and quality of education programs. Methods: The draft of the evaluation measurement was developed from consultation with professionals, focus group interviews targeting groups of nurses, and individual interviews with education program planners. After 6 professionals examined content validity, 46 items were retained. A pilotsurvey was conducted to confirm the time required to complete the questionnaire and the level of understanding of general content and each item in the questionnaire. Construct validity was verified through exploratory factor analysis of data from a survey with 44 items completed by 452 nurses and 59 education program planners. Results: The final evaluation measurement for continuing nursing education programs consisted of 6 evaluation factors and 36 evaluation items. The 6 evaluation factors included identifying program goals and target groups, program planning, performance, operation and management, program outcomes, and program effectiveness. Conclusion: The evaluation measurement for continuing nursing education programs developed in this study is considered suitable to utilize as an evaluation measurement of the quality of continuing education programs for nurses.

Cephalometric Characterstics and their Relationship to Respiratory Disturbance Indices in Snorer and Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (코골이와 폐쇄성 수면무호흡증 환자의 두부규격방사선사진 상의 특징 및 호흡장애지수와의 상관관계)

  • Objectives : The purposes of the study was to evaluate cephalometric characteristics in snorers and patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and to see any relationships between the cephalometric measurements and respiratory disturbance indices (RDI). Materials and Methods : Twelve snoring patients, 11 patients with OSA, and 10 normal subjects were included for the study. After taking a screening sleep study for a night to obtain RDI, $SaO_2$, and snoring index, a detailed cephalometric analysis was conducted to obtain SNA, SNB, SN-MP, IAS, MAS, SPAS, SAAS, Mn-H, and PNS-P. All the data were compared between groups. For a group including 12 snoring patients and 11 OSA patients, correlation coefficients were calculated between respiratory disturbance index and each item of cephalometric measurements. Results : The mandible and the maxilla are retropositioned. The oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal airway is reduced in area and is a factor that could produce or enhance OSA symptoms. The hyoid bone is displaced inferiorly. The soft palate is significantly elongated. Conclusions : These data suggest that cephalometric evaluation could be useful to evaluate snoring and OSA patients, and to assist with the planning treatment for improvement of upper airway patency.

  • Work delay is the one of facts that make the reliability of construction business decrease. Building a causal classification system of work delay and deducing the managemental item for it gives a great competition to the construction industry. It is, however, so rare to study about work delay so far. Therefore, this research analyzed a questionnaire, which is focussing on the public apartment construction, to look into the causal root factors and deduce the work delay factors. Finally, we suggest a major managing point to remove effectively the work delay factors.

Barriers of Last Planner System: A Survey in Vietnam Construction Industry

  • Construction industry is overwhelmed by delay and often has suffered cost and time overrun. In this context, Last Planner System (LPS) has been considered as a very useful tool for the management of the construction process. Many previous studies have reported its effectiveness in construction performance. This study aims to evaluate the level of importance of the Last Planner processes in the Vietnam construction industry (VCI), and analyze the existing barriers when implementing these processes in construction management. These barriers were collected based on previous studies from International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC). A survey was carried out through questionnaire. The respondents are been experienced people in construction project management. There are four processes of LPS that were investigated including master schedule, phase schedule, lookahead plan, and weekly work plan. The results showed that master schedule is the most important item when performing a construction project in the VCI. The highest degree of agreement belongs to 'owner - contractor' pair with 77.1% importance indices; whereas the lowest belongs to 'consultants - contractors' pair with 63.8% importance indices. Eventually, three barrier factors were extracted from factor analysis technique with 62.2% of variance explained.

Sensibility Factors of Colored Light (색광에 대한 감성 요인들)

  • Previous studies on color sensibility employed mostly general emotional and/or sensational words, and could not have a focus on the matter of 'color'. This study tried to collect sensibility words of color widely, and select representative words in a systematic way, with a result of 90 sensibility word list. 25 participants were asked to indicate how they feel on each item of the list when each of 22 colored light was projected on the screen. Factor analysis of data extracted 5 sensibility factors, such as mildness, neatness, splendour, dynamic, and weightiness. They were thought to represent color sensibilities more specifically, while having some similarities to, than those factors proposed previously. Issues on interpretation of factors and application of this result were discussed.

  • Performance assessment was introduced to improvement of self-directed learning and method of assessment for differenced learning as the seventh educational curriculum is enforced. Performance assessment is overcoming limitation about problem solving ability and higher thinking abilities assessment that is problem of a written examination and get into the spotlight by way for quality of class and school normalization. But, performance assessment has problems about possibilities of assessment fault by appraisal, fairness, reliability, and validity of grading, ambiguity of grading standard, difficulty about objectivity security etc. This study proposes fuzzy performance assessment system to solve problem of the conventional performance assessment. This paper presented an objective and reliable performance assessment method through fuzzy reasoning, design fuzzy membership function and define fuzzy rule analyzing factor that influence in each sacred ground of performance assessment to account principle subject. Also, performance assessment item divides by formation estimation and subject estimation and designed membership function in proposed performance assessment method. Performance assessment result that is worked through fuzzy performance assessment system can pare down burden about appraisal's fault and provide fair and reliable assessment result through grading that have correct standard and consistency to students.

Validity and Reliability of Total Quality Management Questionnaire in Greek Primary Education Settings

  • Purpose - The purpose of the study was to develop a reliable measurement tool for the evaluation of TQM application in Greek education settings and to examine the factors that determine quality of education. Research design, data, and methodology - A questionnaire commencing from the questions included in the Application Guide of Common Assessment Framework was used for research purposes. Each item was scored on a 5point Likert scale - to a sample of 112 educators (55 men, 57 women), all teachers working in public primary education schools. Factor analysis resulted in a questionnaire of 43 items consisting of five factors, teacher satisfaction, school management and operation, motivation, effectiveness of public school leadership and finance management. Results - Results revealed a positive correlation among all factors. Reliability results using Cronbach's α was high (a=.961) for all factors of the questionnaire ranging from α=.930 (for motivation) to α=.797 (for financial management). Additionally, ICC procedure revealed high values for the above mentioned factors. Conclusions - The study resulted in the construction of a reliable questionnaire focused exclusively on TQM that can be used in future studies using larger samples in different areas so as to draw useful conclusions regarding TQM application in Greek education settings and further identify the factors determining quality in education.

Cross-Cultural Validity of Personality Tests (성격검사의 문화 타당도 연구)

  • High fidelity translations of measurement instruments from one language to another are required for meaningful comparisons between cultures. A differential item functioning technique, PSIBTEST was used to assess the degree to which a personality test provided cross-cultural validity across U.S. and Korea. The Sixteen Personality Factor (16PF) questionnaire was administered in English to 844 American college students and in Korean to 538 Korean college students. Results of PSIBTEST classified 23 out of 51 items as significantly biased. Implications of this procedure for translation evaluation are discussed.

Psychometric Properties of Korean Version of Modified Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (KMLSEQ)

  • Purpose: The Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (LSEQ) translated into Korean was modified to easily apply and reduce respondents' confusion and was evaluated for psychometric properties and discriminant ability. Methods: A total of 960 Korean adults aged 45 years and older participated in this cross-sectional survey. To test reliability, validity and discriminant ability, Cronbach's alpha, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, simple regression analysis and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis were used. Results: Item-total correlations ranged between 62~.85 and Cronbach's alpha was .95. Area under ROC was .86 (95% CI: .83~.90) and the optimal cutoff score was identified as ${\leq}$ 66 (sensitivity, .77; specificity, .84; positive/negative predictive values, .49/.95). Using this cutoff score, the prevalence of insomnia in the study sample was 25.8% and tended to be more common in female and older groups. Conclusion: The data supported the psychometric properties of Korean Modified Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (KMLSEQ) as an acceptable sleep measurement. In addition, KMLSEQ is likely to be a useful screening tool for insomnia.
