In the current research, the curing kinetics of a mixture system consisting of a Bisphenol-A type vinyl ester resin and styrene monomer was studied. Methylethylketone peroxide and cobalt octoate were used as the polymerization initiator and accelerator respectively. Thermograms with several different heating rates were obtained using non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry. Activation energy values analyzed by the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa isoconversional method showed a three-step change with conversion ${\alpha}$: a slight decrease initially for ${\alpha}$ < 0.1, a constant value of 47.9 kJ/mol in the range 0.1 < ${\alpha}$ < 0.7, and a slow increase for 0.7 < ${\alpha}$. When assuming a constant activation energy of 47.9 kJ/mol, an autocatalytic model of the Sestak-Berggren equation was considered as the proper mathematical model of the conversion function, indicating an overall order of 1.2.
A horizontal tube furnace with a wide uniform-temperature zone was developed using isothermal characteristics of a heat pipe. The heat pipe heating system consists of a concentric annular shaped stainless-steel container, sodium as a working fluid and a screen mesh wick structure. The performance test of the heat pipe revealed that temperature changes along seven consecutive positions of the heat pipe outer wall were less than${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$, thereby ensuring the high isothermal property. The isothermal property of the heat pipe-adapted tube fumace was investigated and compared to a conventional non-heat pipe type tube furnace. The temperature distribution measurement showed that the uniform temperature zone, in which temperature change is less than${\pm}$1$^{\circ}$C, of the heat pipe employed tube furnace system was about three times longer compared to the conventional tube furnace system.

A numerical method for analyzing non-isothermal, rigid-viscoplastic deformation problems has been presented. As an application, a stretch forming of sheet metals, including temperature effect, has been analyzed by a three-dimensional finite element method. Bishop`s step-wise decoupled method is adopted to solve thermomechanical coupling between deformation and heat transfer. Using the method, the effect of temperature on strain distribution during stretch forming is investigated. By comparison of the non-isothermal results with isothermal analysis, the importance of including temperature effects in the analysis of metal forming problems is emphasized. The predicted results were in good agreement with the existing experimental measurements at the different punch temperatures and dome heights investigated. It is also found that any increase of the punch temperature appeared to postpone the strain localization process by lowering the peak strain in the critical punch-sheet contact region and by normalizing strain distribution within the specimen.
Crystallisation kinetics of the erbium doped soda-tellurite glasses were studied using the differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetery (DSC) techniques. The DTA curves in the temperature range of 350 K to 650 K were obtained from isochronal heating rates, chosen in the range of 2 to 20 K/min. DSC isothermal curves were used to calculate the fraction of crystals formed on reheating. The apparent activation energies for devitrification were derived by measuring the shifts in the values of $T_g$ and $T_x$ with heating rates, using the Kissinger method. The derived values of apparent activation energies for isochronal and isothermal methods varied in the range of $190-204\;{\pm}\;5\;kJ\;mol^{-1}$. The X-ray powder diffraction analysis of heat treated and transparent samples showed the presence of nano-scale size sodium-tellurite crystals. These crystallites were found to have a strong influence on the full width of half maxima of the transition in $Er^{3+}:\;^4I_{13/2}{\rightarrow}^4I_{15/2}$, which extended from 70 nm in the vitreous materials to 132 nm in glass-ceramic materials.
Appropriate thermo-mechanical properties of nickel-based superalloys are achieved by heat treatment, which induces precipitation and solid solution hardening; thus, information on the temperature ranges of precipitation and dissolution of the precipitates is essential for the determination of the heat treatment condition. In this study, thermal analyses of nickel-based superalloys were performed by differential scanning calorimetry method under conditions of various heating rates of 5, 10, 20, or 40K/min in a temperature range of 298~1573K. Precipitation and dissolution temperatures were determined by measuring peak temperatures, constructing trend lines, and extrapolating those lines to the zero heating rate to find the exact temperature under isothermal condition. Determined temperatures for the precipitation reactions were 813, 952, and 1062K. Determined onset, peak, and offset temperatures of the first dissolution reaction were 1302, 1388, and 1406K, respectively, and those values of the second dissolution reaction were 1405, 1414, and 1462K. Determined solvus temperature was 1462K. The study showed that it was possible to use a simple method to obtain accurate phase transition temperatures under isothermal condition.

The change of crystalline structure of drawn PP filaments were investigated. Samples were treated by isothermally annealed after elevated heating from $20^{\circ}C$. Measurements were carried out with XRD for crystallite size and density gradient tube for crystallinity. Isothermally heat treatment were carried out at the temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$ and $140^{\circ}C$ for 10min., 30min. and 60min. in dry oven. The isothermal heat treatment after elevated heating from $20^{\circ}C$ were carried out at the temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, $120^{\circ}C$ and $140^{\circ}C$ for 10min., 30min. and 60min. with heating rate of $1^{\circ}C$/min., $5^{\circ}C$/min. and $10^{\circ}C$/min. From the results of this study, it found the following facts. It was found that the crystallinity and crystallite size of (110) plane of sample were increased with increasing of annealed temperature and time. Also crystallinity and crystallite size of samples which were isothermally annealed after elevated heating from $20^{\circ}C$ were higher than those of isohtermally annealed samples.

To detect Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni, a loopmediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) detection method were developed. The LAMP assay was designed to test crude plant tissue without pre-extraction, or heating incubation, and without advanced analysis equipment. The LAMP primers were designed by targeting an ABC transporter ATP-binding protein, this primer set was tested using the genomic DNA of Xanthomonas and non-Xanthomonas strains, and a ladder product was generated from the genomic DNA of X. arboricola pv. pruni strain but not from 12 other Xanthomonas species strains and 6 strains of other genera. The LAMP conditions were checked with the healthy leaves of 31 peach varieties, and no reaction was detected using either the peach leaves or the peach DNA as a template. Furthermore, the high diagnostic accuracy of the LAMP method was confirmed with 13 X. arboricola pv. pruni strains isolated from various regions in Korea, with all samples exhibiting a positive reaction in LAMP assays. In particular, the LAMP method successfully detected the pathogen in diseased peach leaves and fruit in the field, and the LAMP conditions were proven to be a reliable diagnostic method for the specific detection and identification of X. arboricola pv. pruni in peach orchards.

The cure kinetics of a cycloalipatic epoxy / anhydride / Co(II) system for a no-flow underfill encapsulant, has been studied by using a differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) under isothermal and dynamic conditions over the temperature range of $160^{\circ}C ~220^{\circ}C$. The kinetic analysis was carried out by fitting dynamic/isothermal heating experimental data to the kinetic expressions to determine the reaction parameters, such as order of reaction and reaction constants. Diffusion-controlled reaction has been observed as the cure conversion increases and successfully analyzed by incorporating the diffusion control term into the rate equation. The prediction of reaction rates by the model equation corresponded well to experimental data at all temperature.

An algorithm of Thermal-elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis for the piston ring is developed. This algorithm contains cavitation boundary condition so it automatically satisfies conservation of mass. 1-D Reynolds equation and 2-D energy equation are solved simultaneously by using Gauss-Jordan method and Newton-Raphson method. Minimum film thickness and friction force are calculated for 1 cycle. There is little difference between the results caculated by isothermal rigid and EHL analysis in entire cycle. In the results of THL, shear heating effect and temperature boundary condition affect the minimum film thickness and friction force prediction. The minimum film thickness and the friction force calculated by THL are lower than those caculated using isothermal assumption.
