This study on the some urban salaried workers' eating habits was performed according to age, sex, and occupation. The results were as follows: 1. The subjects of Pusan amount to 14.2%, Yosu 25.3%, Changwon 26.8%, Chinju 13%, and Inchon 20.7%. The proportion of women to men is 29.5% to 60.5%. The subjects in there twenties and thirties were 40.4%, those in there forties and fifties 26.9%. 2. 84.6% of the subjects had breakfast regularly(p<0.005). It turned out that males enjoyed breakfast more than females. The main reason for skipping breakfast was the shortage of appetite. 3. Over 80% of subjects enjoyed Korean food for breakfast. 4. Most subjects usually ate lunch at the cafeteria. They enjoyed stew and usually paid ₩3,500-4,000 for lunch(p<0.005). 5. 71.8% of subjects always had dinner(p<0.005). Younger people under 20 skipped dinner sometimes as a means of weight control. 6. 60% of subjects enjoyed eating out for dinner once or twice a week(p<0.005). Women ate out more than men, and the young ate out more than the old. People aged 30 to 40 ate out most frequently. 7. The subjects thought dinner was the most important dish, followed by lunch and then breakfast. 8. 66.6% of subjects had meat once or twice a week(p<0.01). 13.8% under 20 didn't eat meat at all as a means of weight control. Women enjoyed meat more than men. The reasons for not consuming meat were a dislike and insufficient financial resources. According to the survey, most urban salaried workers had breakfast and dinner regularly, preferred Korean food for breakfast, had lunch from mass food supplies, enjoyed eating out once or twice a week, and women ate out more frequently than men. This study includes that it helps to develop the right eating habits and provide a more balance and varied diet.
To evaluate the quality of commercial anchovy sauces, 8 varieties (2 products from the Fishery Cooperation, 2 from small companies, and 4 well-known brands) were chosen and their physicochemical and sensory properties were examined. The salinity of anchovy sauces ranged from 19.8% to 26%, where product E was the saltiest and followed by F> H > B > E > A> C = G > D. Product D with the least salinity was turbid, rancid, and high in ammonia content, suggesting that it is difficult to control the quality of anchovy source with a low salt content. Protein content of anchovy sauces ranged from 2.51% to 2.64%. The unit price of anchovy source A was the highest, whereas B was the lowest. Sensory evaluation scores of anchovy sauces were in the order of B > G > A > F > E > C > H > D for color, B > G = C > H > E = F > G > D for odor, E > C > F > G > H > D > B > A for saltiness, and B > A > C > H > E = F > G > D for overall acceptability. Above results suggest that product B was the best in quality as well as the cheapest among all. Based on the above results, kimchies were prepared with product A, B, C with a high sensory quality and product H with a high market occupancy, and sensory evaluation was performed. The kimchi with product C got the highest sensory score in appearance and the one with product A and H in odor. Although the kimchi with product A generally had high scores throughout the fermentation period, there were no significant differences in texture, salty taste, and overall acceptability among kimchies with different varieties of anchovy sauces.
The most commonly used inorganic nutrient compositions such as Murashige & Skoog medium have been optimized for heterotrophic growth. Therefore, they may not be optimal for photomixotrophic and photoautotrophic growth of plantlets. In photomixotrophic micropropagation, emdium sugar level is often lowered, while light and $CO_2$ levels in vessel are raised, and chlorophyllous explants are used to facilitate photosynthetic carbon acquisition. In a factorial experiment effect of addition (+) and omission(_) of organic materials (OM, 0.5 g ${\cdot}$$m^{-3}$ each of thiamine, nicotinic acid and pyridoxine and 100 ${\cdot}$$m^{-3}$ myo-inositiol) combined with three sucrose levels (0, 15, and 30 kg ${\cdot}$$m^{-3}$) was tested on the growth of potato plantlets. Each of nodal cuttings with a leaf was cultured on 0.1${\times}$$10^{-4}m^{-3}$) MS agar ( 8 kg ${\cdot}$$m^{-3}$) medium (pH 5.80 before autoclave) in glass test tubes (100 mm${\times}$25mm) capped with a sheet of transparent film with a 6 mm diameter gas permeable filter (5.1 air exchanges ${\cdot}$$h^{-1}$). Cultures were maintained in a room for 27 days at $23^{\circ}C$, 50% RH, 350-450${\mu}mol\;{\codt}\;mol^{-1}CO_2$, 16 h ${\cdot}$$d^{-1}$ photoperiod at 13${\mu}mol\;{\codt}\;m\;{\codt}\;s^{-1}$ PPFD provided by white cool fluorescent lamps. Growth of potato plantlet in the +OM and -OM treatments were similar, while medium pH was 0.2 scale lower in the latter. Dry weight, % dry matter, and stem diameter enhanced, while shoot to root dry weight ratio, leaf area, chlorophyll concentration per gram dry weight, and medium pH decreased with increasing initial sucrose level. Interaction between OM and sucrose levels was observed in shoot length and medium pH. Results indicate that OM can be omitted from the medium without detrimental effect while addition of sucrose was beneficial for the photomixotrophic growth of potato plantlets under raised light and $CO_2$.
The purpose of this study was to establish postharvest management techniques including a temperature pre-conditioning protocol for maintaining fruit quality in newly developed early-season Korean pear cultivar 'Hanareum' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai). The fruits were treated with three different pre-conditioning temperatures (21, 25, or $29^{\circ}C$) for 4 days according to the harvest time (103 or 110 days after full bloom, DAFB). The percent weight loss was relatively low in the fruits subjected to low pre-conditioning temperature regardless of harvest time. The firmness of the fruits treated with pre-conditioning at $21^{\circ}C$ remained high during 20 days of simulated marketing at $25^{\circ}C$, although all treated fruits showed a general decline of firmness with extended time of simulated marketing. These fruits also showed higher appearance and a lower incidence of mealiness disorder symptoms. During the experimental periods, the production of ethylene was lower in the fruits pre-conditioned at $21^{\circ}C$ in comparison with those of treated at 25 and $29^{\circ}C$. High respiration rates were obvious in the fruits pre-conditioned at high temperature ($29^{\circ}C$), especially in the optimum-harvested fruits, where respiration was approximately two times higher than that of fruits exposed to $21^{\circ}C$ during pre-conditioning. However, the respiration rate was similar during simulated marketing at $25^{\circ}C$ regardless of harvest time. These results demonstrated that temperature pre-conditioning at $21^{\circ}C$ is a simple and effective postharvest technique for summer harvested Korean pear cultivars including 'Hanareum'.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of shipping temperature and harvesting stage on the quality and vase life of cut flower in standard chrysanthemum 'Baekma' for export. Cut flowers harvested at flowering stage 4 were stored for 24 hours at $5^{\circ}C$, and then quality and vase life were evaluated after simulated shipping for 48 hours at 5, 20, and $35^{\circ}C$. In addition, cut flowers harvested in flowering stage 1 to stage 6 were evaluated after simulated shipping for 72 hours at $5^{\circ}C$. As shipping temperature increased, $CO_2$ concentration inside the box rapidly increased, and $O_2$ concentration greatly decreased. The vase life of cut flowers was extended by 3 days and chlorophyll content of leaves, fresh weight, solution uptake, and flower diameter were better maintained in $5^{\circ}C$ shipping than in 20 or $35^{\circ}C$ shipping. The vase life of cut flowers harvested at flowering stage 1 or 2 was extended by 5.2 or 5.5 days compared to those harvested at flowering stage 6, more 6. The fresh weight was lower and flower diameter was smaller by 1.3 or 2.5 cm in cut flowers of flowering stages 1 through 3 than flowering stages 4 through 6. In addition, the cut flowers of flowering stages 4 through 6 showed higher solution uptake than those of flowering stages 1 through 3. These results suggest that shipping at $5^{\circ}C$ of cut flowers harvested at flowering stage 4 is preferential for promoting vase life and quality of cut flower in standard chrysanthemum 'Baekma' for export to Japan.

The measurement of total fresh weight of plants provides an essential indicator of crop growth for monitoring production. To measure fresh weight without damaging the vegetation, image-based methods have been developed, but they have limitations. In addition, the total plant fresh weight is difficult to measure directly in hydroponic cultivation systems because of the amount of nutrient solution. This study aimed to develop a real-time, precise method to measure the total fresh weight of Romaine lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Asia Heuk Romaine) with growth stage in a plant factory using a nutrient film technique. The total weight of the channel, amount of residual nutrient solution in the channel, and fresh shoot and root weights of the plants were measured every 7 days after transplanting. The initial weight of the channel during nutrient solution supply (Wi) and its weight change per second just after the nutrient solution supply stopped were also measured. When no more draining occurred, the final weight of the channel (Ws) and the amount of residual nutrient solution in the channel were measured. The time constant (${\tau}$) was calculated by considering the transient values of Wi and Ws. The relationship of Wi, Ws, ${\tau}$, and fresh weight was quantitatively analyzed. After the nutrient solution supply stopped, the change in the channel weight exponentially decreased. The nutrient solution in the channel slowly drained as the root weight in the channel increased. Large differences were observed between the actual fresh weight of the plant and the predicted value because the channel included residual nutrient solution. These differences were difficult to predict with growth stage but a model with the time constant showed the highest accuracy. The real-time fresh weight could be calculated from Wi, Ws, and ${\tau}$ with growth stage.
In developing soil wetting agent using polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether (PNE) and polyoxyethylene castor oil (1:1; v/v), the effect of application rates on changes in concentration of PNE, initial wetting of peatmoss + perlite (7:3) medium, and growth of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L. 'Knockwang') plug seedlings were investigated. The elevation of application rates of wetting agent increased the amount of water retained by the root media. The treatment of 2.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ showed similar water retention to + control ($AquaGro^L$ 3.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$). Most of the liquid wetting agent (LWA) incorporated during the medium formulation leached out in the first and second irrigation, then it decreased gradually until 10 times in irrigation. In investigation of the influence of LWA on position of water infiltrating into root media, the vertical water movements in treatments of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were much faster than those in 0.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ (-control), but relative speed of water movement decreased by the elevation in application rate of LWA to 2.0 or 2.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$. The evaporative water loss of root media that to contained various rate of LWA and irrigated to reach container capacity was the fastest in -control among the treatments and it delayed as the application rate of LWA was elevated. The plant height of 22.2 cm in 0.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and stem diameter of 3.26 mm in 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were the highest among the treatments tested. The treatment of 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ also had the heaviest fresh and dry weights such among treatments tested as 3.08 g and 0.861 g per plant, respectively. The elevated application rate over than 1.5 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ resulted in decreased seedling growth. The results mentioned above indicate that optimum application rate of LWA is 1.0 $mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$.
This study was performed to investigate the role of plant growth substances on the bulbing of cold type of garlic (Allium sativum L. cv. Uiseongmaneul) during long and short day conditions. The change in endogenous plant hormones such as abscisic acid (ABA), jasmonic acid (JA) and sugar contents in leaf blade and sheath was examined during the growth stage from bulb differentiation (starting at April 16) to bulbing (April 24 to May 18) in cold type of garlic. In the long day condition, ABA contents were higher than short day condition and ABA contents of leaf sheath were higher than leaf blade. ABA contents of growth stage in garlic were not changed during growth stage from April 16 to May 2, however it rapidly increased during bulbing (May 2 to May 18). On the other hand, endogenous JA contents in short day condition did not change in long day condition, it increased from April 16 to May 2. JA contents in the leaf sheath (33.85-62.04 $ng{\cdot}g^{-1}$ DW) were higher than leaf blade (15.39-30.04 $ng{\cdot}g^{-1}$ DW). These results showed that garlic bulb differentiation and bulbing was induced by JA in leaf sheath. In long day condition, total sugar contents in the leaf blade were increased from bulb differentiation (April 16) to bulbing (May 4) and it was decreased during bulbing (May 4 to May 18) while the total sugar content in leaf sheath were gradually increased from bulb differentiation (April 16) to bulbing (May 18). In conclusion, our results showed that there is a significant correlation between the bulb development of garlic and hormonal content in the leaf sheath.

cis-(3R,5R)-Atorvastatin Ca (1) used for hyperlipidemia have four stereomers. However, It is very difficult to prepare stereoselective stereomers. In this paper, the reduction of 3,5-diketo atorvastatin ester (3) was performed using $Me_4NHB(OAc)_3$ in acetic acid as a reductant and showed excellent stereoselectivity in the double reduction of 3,5-diketo atorvastatin ester (3). As a result, reduction of compound 3 by $Me_4NHB(OAc)_3$ was purely obtained with cis-(3R,5R)-atorvastatin ester (4) of 1.5% and trans-(3R,5S)-atorvastatin ester (5) of 98.5%. Also, cis-(3R,5R)-atorvastatin Ca (1) and trans-(3R,5S)-atorvastatin Ca (7) were used to determine efficacy in the treatment of liver damage and hyperlipidemia induced by a high-fat diet in rats and to study the performance of the January 2010 experient was conducted. As a result, total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c), and triglyceride (TG) levels of compound 1 and 7 groups were $93.0{\pm}0.5$, $43.5{\pm}0.8$, $40.4{\pm}1.4$, $45.6{\pm}0.9\;mg/d{\ell}$ and $110.0{\pm}0.7$, $33.3{\pm}0.6$, $65.8{\pm}1.9$, $54.8{\pm}1.2\;mg/d{\ell}$, respectively. Atherogenic index (AI) and cardiac risk factor (CRF) in compound 1 and 7 were $1.14{\pm}0.05$, $2.14{\pm}0.05$ and $2.31{\pm}0.06$, $3.31{\pm}0.06$, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were $51.9{\pm}4.6$, $16.0{\pm}2.1\;IU/{\ell}$ and $75.8{\pm}4.4$, $35.1{\pm}9.7\;IU/{\ell}$. Taken together, while compound 1 treat against high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemia by attenuating hepatic lipid depots and reducing oxidative stress, compound 7 group had a low curative effect on hyperlipidemia induced by a high-fat diet in rats. These findings suggest that new method about synthesis of stereoselective stereomers and indicate that it may consider using in a clinical trial.

Safety and health related information for the proper use and handing of pesticides is usually printed on the surface of the pesticide products in the form of texts. But, the guidelines or standards for the appropriate presentation of the texts for the pesticide products are most vague or not practical. Thus, this study aimed to provide the preliminary guidelines for the text sizes based on the legibility experiments. To achieve the objective legibility evaluation experiments were conducted to test the effects of different near vision (0.6, ${\geq}0.8$), gender, font type(thick gothic-type and fine gothic-type), thickness of font(plain and bold), and number of syllables(2 and 3 syllables) in the same age group of 20s. The results showed that legibility was different according to the visual acuity (p<0.05), and no other main effects showed statistically significant effects. The 'maximum illegible size' to read at least one word correctly in all the text conditions was 2 pt when the near vision was ${\geq}0.8$, and 2 pt or 3 pt when the near vision was 0.6. The 'minimum legible size' for 100% correct answer was 9 pt for the near vision of 0.6, and 5.3 pt for ${\geq}0.8$, respectively. Mean character size does not read any discomfort in 0.6 was 15.5 pt in both male and female but male was mean 8.5 pt, female was 10 pt in ${\geq}0.8$. Considering these experimental results, it was recommended that the 16 pt or larger characters should be used the important information such as 'Pesticides' or toxicity, and the minimum character size was 9 pt for the less important information.
