  • The performance of Li-ion system based on $LiCoO_2$ and Graphite is well optimized for the 3C applications. The charge-discharge mode, the manufacturing process, the cell performance and the thermal reactions affecting safety has been explained in the engineering point of view. The energy density of the current LIB system is in the range of 300~400 Wh/l. In order to achieve the energy density higher than 500 Wh/l, the active materials should be modified or changed. Adopting new high capacity anode materials would be effective to improve energy density.

  • Solar observations support that magnetic reconnect ion ubiquitously occurs in the chromosphere as well as in the corona. It is now widely accepted that coronal magnetic reconnect ion is fast reconnect ion of the Petschek type, and is the main driver of solar flares. On the other hand, it has been thought that the traditional Sweet-Parker model may describe chromospheric reconnect ion without difficulty, since the electric conductivity in the chromoshphere is much lower than that in the corona. However, recent observations of cancelling magnetic features have suggested that chromospheric reconnect ion might proceed at a faster rate than the Sweet-Parker model predicts. We have applied the Sweet-Parker model and Petschek model to a well-observed cancelling magnetic feature. As a result, we found that the inflow speed of the Sweet-Parker reconnect ion is too small to explain the observed converging speed of the feature. On the other hand, the inflow speeds and outflow speeds of the Petschek reconnect ion are well compatible with observations. Moreover, we found that the Sweet-Parker type current sheet is subject to the ion-acoustic instability in the chromosphere, implying the Petschek mechanism may operate there. Our results strongly suggest that chromospheric reconnect ion is of the Petschek type.

  • The IBE(ion beam etching)-induced Schottky barrier variation which depends on various etching history related with ion energy, incident angle and etching time has been investigated using voltage-current, capacitance-voltage characteristics of metal-etched silicon contact and morphology of etched surface were studied using AFM(atomic force microscope). For ion beam etched n-type silicons, Schottky barrier is reduced according to ion beam energy. It can be seen that amount of donor-like positive charge created in the damaged layer is proportional to the ion energy. By contrary, for ion beam etched p-type silicons, the Schottky barrier and specific contact resistance are both increased. Not only etching time but also incident angle of ion beam has an effect on barrier height. Taping-mode AFM analysis shows increased roughness RMS(Root-Mean-Square) and depth distribution due to ion bombardment. Annealing in an N$_2$ ambient for 30 min was found to be effective in improving the diode characteristics of the etched samples and minimum annealing temperatures to recover IBE-induced barrier variation were related to ion beam energy.

  • When the concrete structures were being made with sand containing chloride ion it was knows that corrosion rate of reinforced steel embedded in concrete with chloride ion was higher than that of concrete with on chloride ion. In this study, the operation of Friedel salts affecting the corrosion behavior of reinforced steel embedded in cement mortar was investigated with electrochemical view. Corrosion potential of reinforced steel embedded in cement mortar with sand containing chloride ion was shifted noble direction than that of cement mortar with no chloride ion after immersed 5 month in natural sea water and also corrosion current density decreased with shifting corrosion potential to noble direction. However Friedel salts appeared from surface to 2.5cm of inside direction of mortar specimen, which is located at 11.5$\circ$(2$\theta$) in XRD analysis and the amount of Ca(OH)2 by SEM photograph in cement mortar with chloride ion was larger than that of cement mortar with mo chloride ion. Eventually it is suggested that Friedel salts was resulted from chloride ion and it acted as the corrosion inhibitor.

  • Na-ion batteries are being considered as promising cost-effective energy storage devices for the future compared to Li-ion batteries owing to the crustal abundance of Na-ion. However, the large radius of the Na ion result in sluggish electrode kinetics that leads to poor electrochemical performance, which prohibits the use of these batteries in real time application. Therefore, identification and optimization of the anode, cathode, and electrolyte are essential for achieving high-performance Na-ion batteries. In this context, the current review discusses the suitable high-voltage cathode materials for Na-ion batteries. According to a recent research survey, sodium vanadium fluorophosphate (NVPF) compounds have been emphasized for use as a high-voltage Na-ion cathode material. Among the fluorophosphate groups, $Na_3V_2(PO_4)_2F_3$ exhibited the high theoretical capacity ($128mAh\;g^{-1}$) and working voltage (~3.9 V vs. $Na/Na^+$) compared to the other fluorophosphates and $Na_3V_2(PO_4)_3$. Here, we have also highlighted the classification of Fluorophosphates, NVPF composite with carbonaceous materials, the appropriate synthesis methods and how these methods can enhance the electrochemical performance. Finally, the recent developments in NVPF for the application in energy storage devices and its outlook are summarized.

  • This study proposes an improved cell balancing circuit for fast equalization among lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. A simple voltage sensorless charge balancing circuit has been proposed in the past. This cell balancing circuit automatically transfers energy from high-to low-voltage battery cells. However, the circuit requires a switch with low on-resistance because the balancing speed is limited by the on-resistance of the switch. Balancing speed decreases as the voltage difference among the battery cells decrease. In this study, the balancing speed of the cell balancing circuit is enhanced by using the auxiliary circuit, which boosts the balancing current. The charging current is determined by the nominal battery cell voltage and thus, the balancing speed is almost constant despite the very small voltage differences among the batteries. Simulation results are provided to verify the validity of the proposed cell balancing circuit.

  • A model based SOC estimation scheme using parameter identification is described and applied to a Lithium-ion battery module that can be installed in electric vehicles. Simulation studies are performed to verify the effect of sensor faults on the SOC estimation results for terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor. The sensor faults should be detected and isolated as soon as possible because the SOC estimation error due to any sensor fault seriously affects the overall performance of the BMS. A new fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme by which the fault of terminal voltage sensor and load current sensor can be detected and isolated is proposed to improve the reliability of the BMS. The proposed FDI scheme utilizes the parameter estimation of an input-output model and two fuzzy predictors for residual generation; one for terminal voltage and the other for load current. Recently developed dual polarization(DP) model is taken to develope and evaluate the performance of the proposed FDI scheme. Simulation results show the practical feasibility of the proposed FDI scheme.

  • FIB equipment can perform sputtering and chemical vapor deposition simultaneously. It is very advantageously used to fabricate a micro structure part having 3D shape because the minimum beam size of ${\Phi}10nm$ and smaller is available. Since general FIB uses very short wavelength and extremely high energy, it can directly make a micro structure less than $1{\mu}m$. As a result, FIB has been probability in manufacturing high performance micro devices and high precision micro structures. Until now, FIB has been commonly used as a very powerful tool in the semiconductor industry. It is mainly used for mask repair, device correction, failure analysis, IC error correction, etc. In this paper FIB-Sputtering and FIB-CVD characteristic analysis were carried out according to $Ga^+$ ion beam current that is very important parameter for minimizing the pattern size and maximizing the yield. Also, for FIB-Sputtering burr caused by redeposition of the substrate characteristic analysis was carried out.

  • This experiment is based on "the feasible improvement studies for an eliminating device of the static electricity which applies the ionizing effect of beta radiation." In order to accomplish this object, the following problems were necessarily considered to investigate and to determine. The efficiency of the elimination of static electricity was determined by means of measuring the ion current between electrically charged plates with micro-ammeter. The effects of various factors, i.e., the distance between charged plate and radiation source, the activity of radiation source, the electric otential and the area of the charged plate, the shape of the source housing, the lining of backscattering material (Pb) on the source housing surface and blowing of ionized air, on the static electricity eliminating efficiency were studied. The beta radiation sources used in this experiment were S$^{35}$ and Sr$^{90}$ -Y$^{90}$ . It was revealed that ion current increased with source activity, the electric potential and area of the plates, the lead (Pb) lining on the surface of the source housing and the velocity of the ionized air blowing. As one could expect the S$^{35}$ was more effective to increase the ion current since it is known to be a higher specific ionization source than Sr$^{90}$ -Y$^{90}$ . The detailed result and performance of the eliminating device of the static electricity are described here.ibed here.

  • This paper presents a carbon nanotube (CNT) triode-structure field emitter as an ion source in a micro time-of-flight mass spectrometer(TOF-MS). In the ion source by field emission, the electrons emitted from cathodes under an electric field accelerated to the anode and ionize gas molecules by impact before arriving the anode. The generated positive ions are to be accelerated to the ion collector. Whereas most of ions are drawn to the cathodes in diode field emitters, a grid in the triode field emitter prevents the ions from being drawn to the cathodes. The triode field emitter is fabricated by micromachining. The cathode is composed of six CNT cylinders. The total size of the fabricated device is $8.0{\times}7.3{\times}1.9mm^3$. The anode and the grid current of the fabricated CNT field emitter were measured for various anode and grid voltages. When the anode and the grid voltages are 1000 V and 990 V, respectively, the emission current passing through the ionization region is 8.6 ${\mu}A$, which is a sufficient emission current for ionization and mass spectrometry.
