  • Estimating the locations of workers in a shipyard is beneficial for a variety of applications such as selecting potential forwarders for transferring data in IoT services and quickly rescuing workers in the event of industrial disasters or accidents. In this work, we propose a human movement stream processing system for estimating worker locations in shipyards based on Apache Spark and TensorFlow serving. First, we use Apache Spark to process location data streams. Then, we design a worker location prediction model to estimate the locations of workers. TensorFlow serving manages and executes the worker location prediction model. When there are requirements from clients, Apache Spark extracts input data from the processed data for the prediction model and then sends it to TensorFlow serving for estimating workers' locations. The worker movement data is needed to evaluate the proposed system but there are no available worker movement traces in shipyards. Therefore, we also develop a mobility model for generating the workers' movements in shipyards. Based on synthetic data, the proposed system is evaluated. It obtains a high performance and could be used for a variety of tasksin shipyards.

  • As the number of connected smart devices and applications increases explosively, the existing orthogonal multiple access (OMA) techniques have become insufficient to accommodate mobile traffic, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT). Fortunately, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks has been regarded as a promising solution, owing to increased spectral efficiency and massive connectivity. In this paper, we investigate the achievable data rate for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with negatively-correlated information sources (CIS). For this, based on the linear transformation of independent random variables (RV), we derive the closed-form expressions for the achievable data rates of NOMA with negatively-CIS. Then it is shown that the achievable data rate of the negatively-CIS NOMA increases for the stronger channel user, whereas the achievable data rate of the negatively-CIS NOMA decreases for the weaker channel user, compared to that of the positively-CIS NOMA for the stronger or weaker channel users, respectively. We also show that the sum rate of the negatively-CIS NOMA is larger than that of the positively-CIS NOMA. As a result, the negatively-CIS could be more efficient than the positively-CIS, when we transmit CIS over 5G NOMA networks.

  • This paper proposes a mobile robot platform for education that can experiment with various autonomous driving algorithms such as obstacle avoidance and path planning. The platform consists of a robot module and a remote controller module, both of which are based on the Arduino Nano 33 IoT embedded board. The robot module is designed as a differential drive type using two encoder motors, and the speed of the motor is controlled using PID control. In the case of the remote controller module, a command to control the robot platform is received with a 2-axis joystick input, and an elliptical grid mapping technique is used to convert the joystick input into a linear and angular velocity command of the robot. WiFi and Zigbee are used for communication between the robot module and the remote controller module. The proposed robot platform was tested by measuring and comparing the linear velocity and angular velocity of the actual robot according to the linear velocity and angular velocity commands of the robot generated by the input of the joystick.

  • This study sets the research goal of reducing energy consumption which 'H' University Industry-University Cooperation Foundation and resident companies are concerned with, as well as conducting policy research and data analysis. We tried to present a solution to the problem using the technique. The algorithm showing the greatest reliability in the power of the model for the analysis algorithm of this paper was selected, and the power consumption trend curves per minute and hour were confirmed through predictive analysis while applying the algorithm, as well as confirming the singularity of excessive energy consumption. Through an additional sub-sensor analysis, the singularity of energy consumption of the unit was identified more precisely in the facility rather than in the building unit. Through this, this paper presents a system building model for real-time monitoring of campus power usage, and expands the data center and model for implementation. Furthermore, by presenting the possibility of expanding the field through research on the integration of mobile applications and IoT hardware, this study will provide school authorities and resident companies with specific solutions necessary to continuously solve data-based field problems.

  • IEEE 802.15.4e-TSCH is recognized as a wireless industrial sensor network standard used in IoT systems. To ensure both power savings and reliable communications, the TSCH standard uses techniques including channel hopping and bandwidth reserve. In TSCH mode, scheduling is crucial because it allows sensor nodes to select when data should be delivered or received. Because a wide range of applications may necessitate energy economy and transmission dependability, we present a distributed approach that uses a cluster tree topology to forecast scheduling requirements for the following slotframe, concentrating on the Poisson model. The proposed Optimized Minimal Scheduling Function (OMSF) is interested in the details of the scheduling time intervals, something that was not supported by the Minimal Scheduling Function (MSF) proposed by the 6TSCH group. Our contribution helps to deduce the number of cells needed in the following slotframe by reducing the number of negotiation operations between the pairs of nodes in each cluster to settle on a schedule. As a result, the cluster tree network's error rate, traffic load, latency, and queue size have all decreased.

  • In this study, real-time collection of mold vibration signals during injection molding processes was achieved through IoT devices installed on the mold surface. To analyze changes in the collected vibration signals, injection molding was performed under six different process conditions. Analysis of the mold vibration signals according to process conditions revealed distinct trends and patterns. Based on this result, cosine similarity was applied to compare pattern changes in the mold vibration signals. The similarity in time and acceleration vector space between the collected data was analyzed. The results showed that under identical conditions for all six process settings, the cosine similarity remained around 0.92±0.07. However, when different process conditions were applied, the cosine similarity decreased to the range of 0.47±0.07. Based on these results, a cosine similarity threshold of 0.60~0.70 was established. When applied to the analysis of mold vibration signals, it was possible to determine whether the molding process was stable or whether variations had occurred due to changes in process conditions. This establishes the potential use of cosine similarity based on mold vibration signals in future applications for real-time monitoring of molding process changes and anomaly detection.

  • With the development of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, numerous people worldwide connect with various electronic devices via Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Considering that HMIs are a new concept of dynamic interactions, wearable electronics have been highlighted owing to their lightweight, flexibility, stretchability, and attachability. In particular, wearable strain sensors have been applied to a multitude of practical applications (e.g., fitness and healthcare) by conformally attaching such devices to the human skin. However, the stretchable elastomer in a wearable sensor has an intrinsic stretching limitation; therefore, structural advances of wearable sensors are required to develop practical applications of wearable sensors. In this study, we demonstrated a 3-dimensional (3D), porous, and piezoelectric strain sensor for sensing body movements. More specifically, the device was fabricated by mixing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and polyvinylidene fluoride nanoparticles (PVDF NPs) as the matrix and piezoelectric materials of the strain sensor. The porous structure of the strain sensor was formed by a sugar cube-based 3D template. Additionally, mixing methods of PVDF piezoelectric NPs were optimized to enhance the device sensitivity. Finally, it is verified that the developed strain sensor could be directly attached onto the finger joint to sense its movements.
