The case study of the Cooperatives' members and Sincere Forest Managers/Forest Successors was carried out to find the determinants affecting the forest investment of private forest owners and analyze their effects on it. For this the landowners' forest investment probability function was estimated using the logistical regression model. The results showed that the forest investment of the Cooperatives' members was the function of forest area, stand age, forest income, and technical assistance. Three of the variables (forest income, forest area, and technical assistance) exhibited a positive effect on the forest investment as expected, while stand age showed a negative effect unlike the expectation of the study. In case of Sincere Forest Managers and Forest Successors forest area, distance(1)(distance from forest to road accessible by vehicle), knowledge of financing program, and forest income were significant indicators for the forest investment. All these variables showed the expected signs; forest area, knowledge of financing, and forest income had a positive effect on the forest investment, and distance(1) showed a negative effect.
If a firm announces an investment in IT security, how the market value of its competitors reacts to the announcement? We try to shed light on this question through an event study design. To test the relationship, we collected 143 announcements on cybersecurity investment and measured the subsequent impact on 533 competitors' abnormal returns, spanning from 2000 to 2019. Our estimation results present that, on average, the announcements have no observable impact on the market value of announcing firms and competitors as well, which is consistent with findings of a prior study. Interestingly, however, the impact becomes evident when we classify our samples by industries (Finance vs. non-Finance or ICT vs. non-ICT) and firm size (Big vs. Small). We interpret our empirical findings through the lenses of contagion effect and competition effect between announcing firms and their competitors. Key finding of our study is that, for financial service firms, the effect resulting from the announcement on cybersecurity investment transfers to competitors in the same direction (i.e., contagion effect).

This study is aimed at analyzing the factors that affect the behaviors of employee's investment, such as a decision making process in a variety of views and proving the extent of how those factors influence on their investment. The basic assumption is that the preceding factors that can be determined by the personal investment propensity, a psychological factor asserted by Behavior Financial Theory and financial-economic and social environment. This study uses Hershey's Investment Behavior Model(2007) as the main analysis tool to explain the investment behavior of individuals and deals with personal investment inclination in the psychological perspective of overconfidence, self-control and the risk tolerance propensity and add the financial and economic factors in terms of financial literacy and economic distress. Also the new preceding social environmental factors like social interaction and the effect of reference group are added to make this research to be more precise. This study analyze the adjustment effect of professional invest-consulting service that affect the fluctuation influence between the individual variables(those factors) and subordination variable(the level of investment satisfaction). The study reveals that overconfidence and self-control in direct ways have a positive effect on the level of investment satisfaction in terms of investment behavior and economic distress has a negative effect on the level of investment satisfaction. The adjustment effect provided by financial experts in investment consulting service is affirmed as the critical factor that increase the influence between self-control and the level of investment satisfaction. To conclude, the research reveals that the psychological factors are the main criteria when the workers as employees have to make investment decisions. To make investors be reasonable, a systematic financial education system provided by experts is needed from the early adolescent stages and financial companies should develop the relevant services of consulting service department as a key financial sector and financial investment products and consulting program and marketing tool pertinent to investors ages, vocational traits and their inclinations.
In this paper, we analyse empirically the effects of financial characteristics on the relationship between R&D investment and market value of firms listed on Korea Exchange. The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. Firm size increase the market valuation of R&D investment because it provides economies of scale, easier access to capital market, and R&D cost spreading. Market share also positively effects the relationship between R&D investment and firm value. Alternatively, free cash flow has a negative effect on the relationship between R&D investment and firm value because firms with high free cash flow could be tempted to use the free cash flow to undertake negative NPV projects. The dependence on external finance is a handicap negatively assessed by the market when firms undertake R&D projects due to the higher information asymmetry associated with this kind of project. Labor intensity has a negative effect on the relationship between R&D investment and firm value because the abnormal profits arising from R&D investment are diluted among employees. Capital intensity also has a negative effect on the relationship between R&D investment and firm value due to the greater financial constraints faced by capital intensive firms. In conclusion, several financial characteristics(firm size and market share) positively effect the relationship between R&D investment and firm value, while others(free cash flow, dependence on external finance, labor intensity, and capital intensity) exert a negative effect. Therefore, we conclude that the effectiveness of R&D investment depends on these financial characteristics.
This paper analyzes the impact of the change in telecommunication regulation changes including the unification of telecommunication service on network investment. The unification of telecommunication service plays a role of separating behavior regulation from entrance regulation and reducing entrance constraints. Therefore, it is expected that the market spillover effect is high through the improvement of behavior regulation. In addition, the effects of the other regulation changes in the 2010 Telecommunications Business Act revision are analyzed. This paper discusses critical factors affecting the decision making process in respect to the firm level and analyzes the impact path guiding investment and innovation. The key findings are as follows. First, the impact of entrance deregulation depends on the intensity of deregulation. If the intensity is not high, this regulation increases the incentive on investment and innovation. However, if the intensity is high as shown in abolishing of licensing, it affects the incentive negatively. Second, if interconnection regulation focuses on existing facilities or the intensity is not strong, this light handed regulation might increase investment and innovation. However, if interconnection obligation is expanded to the facility not constructed or the facility applying new technology, this regulation might deteriorate investment. Third, price deregulation increases the competition of service but it also increases the business opportunity, which means positive effect on investment. Finally, the paper proposes the guideline for telecommunications policy.

This study examines the relationships between R&D investment and Market value of Firms using data of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector of Korea. In particular, this paper investigates the role of technology innovation system in the impact of R&D investment on firm's Market value of Firms. Findings from the previous studies on the relationship between R&D investment and Market value of Firms are positive relationship. Main of the previous studies demonstrated a positive impact of R&D investment on Market value of Firms. On the other hand, some recent studies showed this is not the case. Those studies persisted that the technological innovation system for managing and efficiently utilizing R&D investment and capability has to be built in order for R&D investment to give rise to increases in Market value of Firms. According to the Oslo manual by OECD, it is assumed that a technology innovation system can becharacterized as three factors :capability for technological innovation, capability for technology commercialization, capability for technological innovation management. This study divides sample firms into two groups using the "Inno-Biz" certificate system of the Korean Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA): Inno-Biz firms Vs. Not Inno-Biz firms. The system selects innovative SMEs denoted as "Inno-Biz" using the above factors as criteria. The results revealed that the technology innovation system has the moderating effect to R&D investment on Market value of Firms.
Purpose: Research and development of human capital in countries bring sustainable development to the nations. Especially for developing countries, the attraction of foreign direct investment not only brings economic growth to the country but also contributes to improving human capital. This study aims to assess the impact of foreign direct investment on human capital in ASEAN countries. Research design, data and methodology: With data collected from ASEAN countries from 1990 to 2019, panel data analysis is performed with revised model types (the Pooled OLS, Fixed effect model, Random effect model and regression with Driscoll-Kraay standard errors). Result: The results of the regression analysis show that FDI has a positive impact on human capital. At the same time, the study also found that public investment in education also positively affects human capital; the life expectancy factor does not affect human capital. Conclusions: With this research result, the authors also proposed a number of solutions to improve human capital by attracting FDI and improving the efficiency of investment for the education of ASEAN countries. Besides, public expenditure on education also plays an important role in raising human capital. Therefore, investment in education should be promoted further in the future.
We investigate the effect of government and public sector R&D Investment at IT Industry on the amount of Production, export and nongovernment R&D Investment at IT Industry. We, firstly, examine the stationarity of each variable by the unit root t-test and perform the co-integration test for the pairs of variables. We use YECM(Vector Error Correction Model) according to the results of co-integration test for the examination of Granger-causality between variables. It is found that there exist an Granger-causality between public sector R&D Investment and nongovernment R&D investment and also between public sector R&D Investment and export. Secondly, we analyze the impulse response of government and public sector R&D Investment at IT Industry on the amount of production, export and nongovernment R&D investment at IT Industry based on VECM model. It is found that the response of the amount of production is highest at 3th period and is lowest at 8th period and that of export shows similar pattern.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examines the effect of corruption pressure in host country on sequential investment. The study further investigates how the information acquisition capacity of MNEs and the political tie in the host country had a moderating effect on the relationship between corruption and sequential investment. Design/methodology/approach - Ordered logistic regression is hired to analyze 1,260 MNEs' sequential investment in Vietnam. Findings - The empirical results of this study demonstrate the more MNEs perceive the strong level of pressure to be corrupt in the local market, the less they are likely to invest. The information acquisition capacity of MNEs has been shown to mitigate the negative effects of corruption pressures on sequential investments, while the moderating effect of political tie in host country is partially supported. Research implications or Originality - This study identified that the corruption pressures of host countries negatively affect not only MNEs that are entering, but also the ones that have already entered host countries; the corruption discourages any sequential investment for existing MNEs. By suggesting two moderating variables, this study will provide managerial implications for MNEs and managers who face corruption pressure in host countries.
This paper aims to determine factors causing the stagnation of Korean firms' fixed investment after the global financial crisis, using panel data for the period of 1999-2016. Fixed investment remained sensitive to cash flow and Tobin's q although their effects decreased after the global financial crisis. A decreasing trend of cash flow and an increase in Tobin's q since the early 2000's imply that the worsening cash flow was a major factor behind the sluggish investment after the crisis. Meanwhile, debt-equity ratio remained significant for non-chaebol affiliated firms, reflecting disparity in access to external financing. Volatility of stock returns also became insignificant after the crisis, casting doubt on the argument that uncertainty was a major factor contributing to the decline of fixed investment. Analysis of financial investment confirmed the significant effect of cash flow, larger than that on financial investment than on fixed investment. In particular, debt repayment and other financial investment, except share repurchase, were sensitive to cash flow. However, the substitution of fixed investment by financial investment is a consequence, rather than a cause of declining fixed investment.
