  • This paper investigates whether the investment of a chaebol firm depends on financial characteristics such as leverage and growth opportunity. We find that the investment of a chaebol firm increases as its growth opportunity increases. We also find that this positive effect of growth opportunity on the investment is more pronounced in a low-leverage firm than in a high-leverage firm. Unlike chaebol firms, however, the interaction effect between leverage and growth opportunity is not statistically significant for nonchaebol firms.

  • The success of a target of 'low-carbon green growth' depends on whether installing energy-saving capital would result in an increase in industry's productivity growth. Defining total factor productivity from a dual cost function, this paper estimates the contribution of energy efficiency investment to productivity growth by analyzing the sources of growth of productivity index for the primary metal industries. Empirical results show that, on average, energy efficiency investment increased the annual rate of productivity growth by 1.16 percentage points over th period 1982~2006. In addition, The scale effect positively affected the contribution of energy efficiency investment on productivity growth.

  • The paper is concerned with, firstly, estimating the North Korean input-output table in which energy sectors like electricity and petro products are specified and, secondly, computing the effect of an investment in the energy sector on North Korean economy, by using the estimated input-output table and applying CGE analysis. The 4,000 million dollar investment on North Korean electricity industry produces 368 million dollar worth of output and 156 million dollar worth of value added. The 150 million dollar investment on petro industry creates about 20.5 million dollar worth of output and 9.65 million dollar worth of value added in North Korea.

  • The effects of R&D investment on innovation such as patents and intangible assets, and the effect on the corporate performance such as revenue and profit growth, were analyzed using path analysis. In particular, this study compared and analyzed the performances of non-cooperative R&D and cooperative R&D. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, R&D investment has a significant impact on innovation performance. This supports the existing research results. Second, patents have a significant impact on intangible asset growth. Third, in the case of corporate groups carrying out cooperative R&D, intangible asset growth forms a significant causal relationship with revenue growth. Fourth, in case of cooperative R&D, intangible asset growth has a significant mediating effect between patent and revenue growth. Like the existing research, the results of this research support the innovation performance of R&D investment. It also supports the existing argument that the results of cooperative R&D are more favorable to increase corporate value. However, unlike the existing research, we found a path leading to increased revenue through patents and intangible assets, and confirmed that such a path is likely to be achieved through cooperative R & D rather than internal R&D.

  • This paper analyses the impact of energy-saving investment on Greenhouse gas emissions using a model of energy demand in Korea. SUR method was employed to estimate the demand equation. The econometric estimates provide information about the energy price divisia index, sector income, and energy saving-investment elasticities of energy demand. Except for energy price divisia, the elasticities of each variable are statistically significant. Also, the price and substitution elasticities of each energy price are similar to the results reported by the previous studies. The energy-saving investment is statistically significant and elasticities of each sector is inelastic. Using the coefficient of energy-saving investment and carbon transmission coefficient, the amount of reduction of energy demand and the reduction of carbon emissions can be estimated. The simulation is performed with the scenario that the energy-saving investment increase by 10~50%, keeping up with Equipment Investment Plan of 30% increase in energy-saving investment by 2000. The results show that the reduction of energy demand measured as 11.2% based upon 1995's level of the energy demand, in industrial sector. Accordingly, the carbon emissions will be reduced by 11.3% based upon 1995's level of the carbon emissions in industrial sector.

  • Purpose- This study seeks to investigate the impact of foreign remittances on private sector investment and the moderating role of banking sector development in Sub-Saharan African Countries. Research design, data, and methodology-The study has used a sample of 15 Sub-Saharan African countries and data for the years 1986 - 2017. Data was obtained from the World Bank Development Indicator (WDI) Database. Panel data diagnostic tests were conducted to ascertain the suitability of the data for regression analysis. The data was analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, while the hypothesis was tested through hierarchical regression analysis. Results- The finding of this study indicates that foreign remittances and banking sector development had a significant and positive effect on private investment in Sub-Saharan Africa. Besides, the banking sector development significantly moderated the foreign remittances and private sector investment relationship. Conclusions- Based on the results, the study concludes that banking sector development has an important influence on foreign remittances and private sector investment nexus. Due to the antagonistic interaction between foreign remittance and banking sector development, the study recommends the use of alternative ways of channeling remittances to private investment such as; issuance of diaspora bonds and appeal for direct investment by citizens living abroad.

  • The investment environment in Korea and U.S. dramatically changed since Korea-US FTA. The key reasons for this successful change were liberalization and strengthened protection of investment along with trade liberalization which also brought investment market expansion. As the result of trade-diversion effect, investments between two countries have been enormously increased. Through a FTA with the big economy like US, Korea's FTA network has been largely expanded. Korea further needs to utilize this outcome when competing with other countries in investment markets.

  • Purpose: The purpose of research is to explore the factors influencing the intention to adopt altcoin investments, based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology. Through this, it seeks to elucidate the key factors impacting altcoin investment adoption, and provide a comprehensive understanding of the crypto-currency market and investor behavior. Methods: This study analyzed factors affecting altcoin investment intentions using frequency and descriptive analyses, and verified socio-demographic differences with t-tests and ANOVA. Exploratory factor and correlation analyses were conducted for research tool validity and relationship assessment among variables. Hypotheses were tested through regression analysis, integrating control, independent, and moderating variables, along with interaction terms, to establish the model and examine moderating effects. Results: As a result, it is revealed that higher age and experience in crypto-currency investment are associated with intention to invest. Among the independent variables, performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and personal innovativeness have positive effects to investment intention to invest, while effort expectancy had a negative effect. The moderating variable, perceived risk, also negatively affected the intention to invest. Notably, significant moderating effects of perceived risk were observed in the relationships between investment intention and both performance expectancy and personal innovativeness. Conclusion: This study provides empirical verification into consumers' intentions to invest in altcoins, offering insights into investors' behavior and decision-making processes based on a practical understanding of altcoin investment acceptance.

  • This study examined the relationship between Korean male consumers' perceptions of marketing promotion investment such as advertising expenditure and celebrity endorsement are the brand equity elements. It also compared if there were differences on this research model and two groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin in fashion product purchasing. Online survey responses from 414 Korean men in their 20s-30s were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling analysis (SEM). Perceptions of advertising expenditures were found to be positively related to brand association in only the group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results showed a non-significant effect of perceptions for advertising expenditures on perceived product quality in both groups that selected Korean or foreign country-of-brand-origin. The results indicated that celebrity endorsement had a significant effect on brand association for the two male consumer groups. The results also demonstrated that the relationship of celebrity endorsement and perceived quality was significant in only a group that selected Korean country-of-brand-origin. The results also revealed that the effect of brand association and perceived product quality on brand preference was significant in both male consumer groups. This study has useful managerial implications for enhancing the effectiveness of investment in advertising activities.
