Biogas production and utilization are an emerging alternative energy technology. Biogas is produced from the biological breakdown of organic matter through anaerobic digestion. Biogas can be utilized for various energy sectors such as space heating, electricity generation and vehicle fuel. Especially, to be utilized as vehicle fuel, raw biogas needs to be upgraded that is mainly the removal of carbon dioxide to increase the methane content up to more than 95 ~ 97 vol% in some cases, similar to the composition of fossil-based natural gas. Usage of Biogas as a fuel of vehicles have an effect of reducing $CO_2$ emission compared to fossil fuels. Biomethane which is produced by upgrading of biogas is regarded as a good alternative energy and usage of clean energy is encouraged to deal with air pollution and waste management as well as production of clean energy. Recently, biogas projects for vehicle fuel are newly being launched and Korea government have also announced a plan for investment to develop biogas as a transport fuel. In this study, it is aimed to examine the potential feasibility of biomethane as a transport fuel. As a results, the status of biomethane, quality standard, quality characteristics, and upgrading technology of biogas were investigated to evaluate of biogas as a vehicle fuel of transportation.
Organic farming excludes any use of the herbicide. The present paper reviews what can be done for effective weed control with existing weed control technology by farmers crop-ping paddy rice, field crops, vegetables, and fruit trees. If condition of the crop-land-al-lows diversified rotational use of the paddy land as paddy and upland field would minimize weed problem. Practising this is limited in acreage due to extremely limited governmental investment to the land for the purpose. Secondly, rotation of crops in the upland field breaking life cycles of various weeds adapted to each crop should reduce the weed problem. This is also limited as only a few crops are making the farmer profitable. In addition climate and tolerance of crops to high and low temperature. Monsoon rains and poor drainage restrict the freedom of choice. For any crop land year-round multiple cropping in denser planting shall lessen the weed problem, this multiple cropping practiced by 1960s has been abandoned due to laborshortage and increased production cost. Deep flooding the rice is impractical at present in Korean. Mulching crop with transparent, black , or combinated polyethylene sheet, hs been in-creasingly used. Progresses in development and use of mulch with allelopathic crop residues. inexpensive paper mulch, allelopathic crop residues, inexpensive paper mulch, allelopathic crop cultivar development, recently developed ex-perimental weeding machinaries, flamers, microbial herbicides, biological control organisms, soil sterilization techniques have been critically reviewed for their adoption into existing in-tegrated weeding system. Unfortunately, information on cost-benifit, and labor-benefit, for the various methods above mentioned are lacking. Urgent need for the research on rational weeding in organic farming, and herbicide low-input farming is emphasized.
This study researched the status and prospect of a natural dye program in Gyeongsang region that focused on private centers with sufficient infrastructure and abundant human resources were available for natural dyes. The entire site for metropolitan cities that have difficulty in securing the land are limited (as well as smaller) because they are closer to the city; in addition, they do not own the drying house and the agricultural land for natural dyes. It is understood that the one-time program of all centers researched help to promote and maintain the centers rather than generating profit; in addition, it is shown that Jun - Aug (summer) is preferred over Dec - Feb (winter). This program uses natural indigo; consequently, natural dye program for hobby and education is operated when it is required because the number of participants are low in most cases, Persimmon Juice is used for the dyeing raw materials. Programs in operation are often outsourced with other institutes registered under private certification system; therefore, many cases of starting business are found in the institutes operating programs directly after obtaining the certification. Their plans do not allow for investment in facility such as enlargement of experience center and prospect of program; in addition, business value is generally bright for business strategies that include an exhibition shop for natural dye products and program development.

Objective : Stroke is the most frequent cause of death in Korea. Because it remains severe disablities disturbing normal life, it is important to carry out intervention preventing from progression of condition in patients with acute ischemic stroke within therapeutic time window. Thus early thrombolysis is beneficial for patients with acute ischemic stroke. However its therapeutic efficacy is not known in combination with oriental medical therapy. In this study, we investigated the safety and the clinical effect of continous intravenous urokinase therapy and oriental medical therapy. Methods : Twenty eight patients with acute onset of ischemic stroke no later than three days received continous infusion of urokinase and oriental medical therapy. We estimated the subjects's neurological deficit and functional status with National institute of Neurologic Disorders and Stroke Scale(NIHSS) and Europian Stroke Scale (ESS) prior to therapy, on day 3, 7, 14 after the starting urokinase therapy and on day at discharge. Results: After day 7, the scores of NIHSS and ESS were improved significantly. There are no differences in therapeutic effects of the interval between onset of stroke and initiation of therapy. Complication were noted in four(14%) patients, but these are not fatal complication and make no neurological deficiency. Conclusion : The results of these investment suggest that continuous intravenous urokinase with oriental medical therapy could be a safe and effective intervention to prevent from progression in acute ischemic stroke. But this findings should be confirmed in multicenter double blind controlled trial.
In recent years, national R&D programs tend to become larger and more complicated, which necessitates strengthening the overall coordination of national R&D programs at the inter-ministerial level from the program planning stage. This paper looks into the status and problems of Korea's national R&D programs and proffers ways to improve the current system It highlights the problems shown in the process of the 2004 overall coordination and their rectification. First, various ad-hoc private-led committee brought about inefficiency in decision making process. Therefore, it is necessary to streamline such committees and strengthen the function of the Office of Science and Technology Innovation, Second, in view of the implementation of the overall coordination system, it is necessary to identify the problems in full detail that were raised in the course of the previous year's overall coordination so that new projects can be allotted minimal grades and follow-up activities can be efficiently put into execution. Third, it is necessary to establish standing committees for constant review and efficient utilization that will be devoted to reviewing programs overlapped and their linkage. Fourth, priority of investment regarding the nation's strategic policy direction should be reflected. Fifth, given the lack of performance-based evaluation system, it is necessary to develop macro and micro evaluation indices in conjunction with enacting the tentatively named "Performance-based Law." The overall coordination system of national R&D programs should be supplemented and further developed in relation to the aforementioned problems and their rectification in order to enhance the expertise, fairness, and efficiency of the nation's R&D coordination system.
Neonatal intensive care in Korea has improved remarkably since the 1990s, but there is still a shortage of facilities and equipment in NICUs. Only 71.1% of the beds needed for neonatal intensive care are available. Mechanical ventilators are not appropriately distributed to the NICUs that are equipped to handle neonatal intensive care. The number of doctors is far too small, making the number of patients per doctor very high. Nurses, too, need to take care of 7.7 patients per nurse, making it very difficult to provide adequate intensive care. All this is caused by insufficient investment by the hospitals, which, in turn, is caused by inadequate reimbursement from health insurance. Therefore, a government-sponsored effort is necessary to bring the level of neonatal intensive care up to par.
As the Trump administration withdraws the Paris Climate Agreement and shows its antipathy toward free trade, the U.S.'s soft power is most likely to weaken and its behaviors could be perceived as acts to surrender the U.S. hegemonic leadership in the world stage. Hegemonic stability theory notes that the existence of a hegemonic power contributes to international stability in the sense that it provides international public goods. A lack of the U.S's leadership in international politics, however, could be recognized as its denial of a hegemonic status. Is it intentional or accidental? The U.S's denial of hegemonic roles is the byproduct of the Trump administration's "American First" policy, not the showcase of its intention to transit hegemony to others. What is noteworthy is that China targets a niche market of hegemony as the U.S. denies its roles as the international leader. Put it another way, China attempts to ride hegemony for free when the U.S. denies its hegemonic roles accidentally. Faced with a niche market of hegemony, China has begun to accelerate its national strategy to make "Chinese Dream" come true. To that end, China promised again to keep the Paris Climate Agreement and attempts to play more active its roles in Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO), Asia Infra Investment Bank(AIIB), and "One Belt, One Road". Despite all these efforts, the U.S. is most likely to withdraw its denial of hegemony any time soon. The U.S's resumption of Freedom of Navigation Operations(FONOPs) could be a precursor of the return to a hegemonic power's willingness. In this vein, it is noteworthy that the South China Sea serves as a quasi-war zone for hegemonic conflict.
Magnetic separation technology is an efficient and environmentally friendly technology. Compared with the traditional wastewater treatment technology, the magnetic separation technology has its unique advantages and characteristics, and has been widely applied in the field of wastewater treatment. In particular, the emergence of superconducting magnetic separation technology makes possible for high application potential and value. In this paper, which through consulting with the literatures of Korea, Chinese, United States and other countries, the magnetic separation technology applied to wastewater treatment was mainly divided into direct application of magnetic field, flocculation, adsorption, catalysis and separation coupling technology. Advantages and limitations of the magnetic separation technology in sewage treatment and its future development were also studied. Currently, magnetic separation technology needs to be studied for additional improvement in processing mechanism, design optimization of magnetic carrier and magnetic separator, and overcoming engineering application lag. The selection, optimization and manufacturing of cheap magnetic beads, highly adsorbed and easily desorbed magnetic beads, specific magnetic beads, nanocomposite magnetic beads and the research of magnetic beads recovery technology will be hot application of the magnetic separation technology based on the magnetic carriers in wastewater treatment. In order to further reduce the investment and operation costs and to promote the application of engineering, it is necessary to strengthen the research and development of high field strength using inexpensive and energy-saving magnet materials, specifically through design and development of new high efficiency magnetic separators/filters, magnetic separators and superconducting magnetic separators.
In the past 20 years, passenger and cargo transportation performance at the international passenger ports in Korea have increased by 8.6% on the compound annual growth rate, respectively. The Korean government had expected to continue expanding the market of car ferries and the government included plans for the development of additional routes and lanes with neighboring countries such as China, J apan, and Russia as a part of the Plan of the Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2019. However, compared to the development of routes, the management and operation of passenger terminals are inefficient. The purpose of this paper was to introduce the overall improvement of the passenger terminal operating system that reflects the recent changes in the supply and demand of international passenger vessels and the needs of the government and private sector passengers. To this end, a basic survey was conducted on the status of operations and facilities at the Busan International P assenger Terminal and a questionnaire survey was administered on the subject of use. The results of the survey were analyzed using the IPA model. As a result of the analysis, three items in the operation sector, three items in the facility sector, and four items in the system sector of the Busan International Passenger Terminal were identified as in need of improvement. Based on the results, the need for investment to improve the international passenger terminal operating system is suggested.
This paper diagnoses the financial knowledge of the college students and their values on financial situation. Another emphasis is given to the classification of surveyed college students based on their financial knowledge and values and the financial traits of each classified group is also analyzed. Statistical analysis was conducted using Cronbach's ${\partial}$, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test with total number of 733 questionnaires. Primary results of the research are as follows: First, overall score of financial knowledge was 62.65 points, showing the highest points in spending while lowest in savings and investment. Senior classes, students majoring in liberal arts, students with financial education and media experiences scored high points. Second, overall score of college students on financial values was 3.92, resulting in high points on credit and frugality but points on sharing with others were low. Thirdly, all surveyed students were classified into 4 types based on the mean scores on financial knowledges and values. Total 31.7% of students belonged to Type 1 where students scored high points on financial knowledge and values. Type 2 had about 22.4 % of students whose financial score was high but value score was low. Type 3 occupied 24.2% and this group scored low points on financial knowledge but high points on financial values. Type 4 occupied 21.8% and was a group of students whose scores for financial knowledge and values were low. Finally, Type 1 and 3 groups showed better desirable behaviors for financial management and expressed higher satisfaction status for finance than Type 2 and 4. Type 1 is a group of students whose subjective financial level was high. Monthly income was highest in Type 2 and financial stress was lowest in Type 1.
