  • Facial nerve paralysis following delayed complication after trauma was rare and hard to find reason After symptom of facial nerve paralysis was found, careful clinical and neuropathic investigation needed through electromyography and nerve conduction velocity. It is necessery to Hewing that functional degenaration of nerve conduction was irresible or not. It is important to determine if palsy is already present alter trauma or some later time because origin of viral infection or temperature change may possible.

  • Bulk hetero junction (BHJ) polymer solar cells (PSCs) are one of the most promising fields as alternative energy source. Especially, the development of new p-type conjugated polymer is one of the main issues to get core technology. In this study, a series of varied ratio of 3,6-carbazole in poly[9-(heptadecan-9-yl)-9H-carbazole-2,7-diyl-alt-(5,6-bis-(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo-[1,2,5]-thia-diazole)-5,5-diyl] were designed and synthesized. These polymers have good solubility and film formability than PCDTBT which is well known promising material. Investigation of the photovoltaic properties of these new polymers indicated that polymer with 2% of 3,6-carbazole provided higher PCE (3.8% to 4.9%) with enhanced JSC, FF, VOC. We found origin of this improvement using several methods, one of which is reduced bimolecular recombination in polymer.

  • This paper presents an investigation why Mn-steel high pressure gas cylinders have been failed in service. The fractured cylinders have been collected to identify the reason of the failure using various methods. The undamaged, new cylinder has also been tested for the base data. We examined the chemical compositions and fracture facets as well as the mechanical properties of the vessels. The microstructural observations of the fractured regions of the cylinder did not indicate the noticeable defects which might cause the failure. The experiments of cylinders on the compositinal and mechanical tests showed that the cylinder was in good shape according the standards of gas pressure vessel. The morphological analysis of the fracture surfaces concluded that the origin of the failure was the local weak segments induced by the external impact to the cylinder, which result in a sudden, fast fracture.

  • As a result of industrial advancement and land development, a number of highway slopes have been gradually formed and numerous problems related to their stability have been frequently caused. Generally, major factors for rock slope stability are lithology, slope inclination, slope height, degree of weathering, precipitation, condition of groundwater and so onl. Many complex factors are mostly involved in the collapse of rock slopes. In this study, a database for 94 collapsed Jungang highway slopes were set up using GIS program through literature search, site investigation, geological map and Korea tectonic province map. The analyses for the collapsed factor including sort of rock(by origin), tectonic province, highway direction, slope gradient and direction, degree of weathering, slope height were carried.

  • The origin of the well-known correlation between Hubble residual of Type Ia Supernova (SN Ia) and mass of their host galaxies is yet to be fully understood. In our first paper of our YOnsei Evolutionary Supernovae Evolutionary Investigation (YONSEI) project, we found a significant (${\sim}3.9{\sigma}$) correlation between host galaxy mass (velocity dispersion) and population age from high S/N host spectra observed using LCO 2.5 m telescope. Since there is no correlation with metallicity, our result suggests that stellar population age is mainly responsible for the relation between host mass and HR. In order to explore this more directly, we have subsequently observed more sample of nearby early-type host galaxies using MMT 6.5 m telescope. In this poster presentation, we will report our progress in this project and show the preliminary results from our MMT observations.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the possibilities of use as a factor of the water landscape in modern urban spaces such as parks and, apartments, through a case study of the concept, functions, and culture of moats in the East and West from ancient times to the Middle Ages. This study aimed to examine the concept, origin, and function of the moat as a theoretical consideration. Asian castles with moats, including those in Korea, China and Japan, and Western castles with moats in Britain, France, Belgium, and Germany were investigated and analyzed. By reflecting on these cultures and the functions of the moat in modern urban spaces and converting the environment damaged due to industrialization and urbanization into an eco-friendly and environment symbiotic city the quality of life can be improved, and sustainable development can be achieved. This study was conducted through a literature survey and field investigation.

  • We applied the two-color resonant two-photon ionization and mass-analyzed threshold ionization techniques to record the vibronic and cation spectra of 2,4-difluorophenol. As supported by our theoretical calculations, only the cis form of 2,4-difluorophenol involves in the two-photon photoexcitation and pulsed field ionization processes. The band origin of the $S_1{\leftarrow}S_0$ electronic transition of cis-2,4-difluorophenol appears at 35 647 ${\pm}2cm^{-1}$ and the adiabatic ionization energy is determined to be 70 $030{\pm}5cm^{-1}$, respectively. Most of the observed active vibrations in the electronically excited $S_1$ and cationic ground $D_0$ states mainly involve in-plane ring deformation vibrations. Comparing these data of cis-2,4-difluorophenol with those of phenol, cis-2-fluorophenol, and 4-fluorophenol, we found that there is an additivity rule associated with the energy shift resulting from the additional fluorine substitution.

  • This study was carried out to investigate number of items of oriental drugs which were widely used in Korea, their origins and amounts of consumption. Number of the botanical drugs which have been used at the Kyung Hee Medical center during the past four years from 1971 to 1974 were 282 items. Of these drugs original plants were 280 kinds. They include 9 formas and varieties, 271 species, 231 genera and 102 families. Among these items, Coicis Semen was used with the highest amounts in consumption and Calophyllum was with the lowest.

  • In this study, the bibliographic classification, pathogeny, symptoms, therapeutics and prescriptions of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精) were researched. Reference to consult about its origin and the process of development showed the following results. 1. It was 1117 that the difference between Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精) began to appear for the first time in classical literatures. 2. In view of psychological side, it is suitable for siljeong(失精), the part of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精), to be called Taljeong(脫精). 3. Taljeong-Siljeong(脫營失精) was broken out by the internal factors. 4. Silyoung(失營) and Silyoung jeo(失營疽) are the worse states of Talyoung(脫營) and result in the incurable diseases. 5. Hypochondria and diaster psychology can be cured by the therapeutics of Talyoung-Siljeong(脫營失精). 6. Prescription for Heoro-Talyoung(虛勞脫營) can be used in cure of Talyoung(脫營). Talyoung-Siljeoung(脫營失精) remarked in traditional oriental meicine is recognized to belong to the part of stress in mordern medicine. It is thought that the experimental investigation should be continued.

  • Arrangement of individual atoms and molecules with atomic precision and understanding the resulting properties at the molecular level are ultimate goals of chemistry, biology, and materials science. For the past three decades, scanning probe microscopy has made strides towards these goals through the direct observation of individual atoms and molecules, enabling the discovery of new and unexpected phenomena. This talk will discuss the origin of forces governing motion of small organic molecules and their extended self-assembly into two-dimensional surface structures by direct observation of individual molecules using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). In addition, atomic force microscopy (AFM) is utilized for the investigation of fundamental mechanisms of bone mineral dissolution by examining atomically well characterized simulated bone minerals under aqueous solution environments.
