  • The module UPS can flexibly implement expansion of power system capacities. Further-more, it can be used to build up the parallel redundant system to improve the reliability of power system operation. To realize the module UPS, load sharing without interconnection among parallel connecting modules as well as a small scale and lightweight topology is necessary. In this paper, the three-arm converter/inverter is compared with the general full-bridge and half-bridge topology from a practical point of view and chosen as the module UPS topology. The switching control approaches based on a pulse width modulation of the converter and inverter of the system are presented independently. The frequency and voltage droop method is applied to parallel operation control to achieve load sharing. Two prototype 3㎸A modules are designed and implemented to confirm the effectiveness of the pro-posed approaches. Experimental results show that the three-arm UPS system has a high power factor, a low distortion of output voltage and input current, and good load sharing characteristics.

  • Energy Saving Methods in existing railway vehicle are considered by active approach such as regenerative energy storage and utilization, eco driving, etc. On the other hands, energy saving measures in railway station are operated by passive method such as reduction of operating time in ventilation system, cooing system and power equipment. To reduce energy and for independence in railway system, it requires an active energy saving measures. It needs to its own power source besides the power source of electric supply company such as renewable energy and regenerative energy and take the advantage of power storage system and stored power are used in optimum time. This paper deal with 3-level NPC inverter and T-type NPC inverter that used in various multi-level topology applicable to the railway system.

  • This paper presents a new current-source PWM inverter based on Buck-boost configuration to interface between photovoltaic system and utility line. Proposed inverter is consisted by two set of buck-boost topology, and the input inductor is designed to be operated on the discontinuous current conduction mode. So high power factor can be achieved without additional input CtUTent controller. As a result, overall system has simple structure, and it can obtain higher ac output rms voltage than the terminal voltage of the photovoltaic system without additional boosting procedure. The operational modes are theoretically analyzed, and then the validity of the proposed system was verified through simulation and experimental results using a prototype.

  • The induction motor rotor fault diagnosis system using current signals, which are measured using an axis-transformation method, is presented in this paper. In inverter-fed motor drives, unlike line-driven motor drives, the stator currents are rich in harmonics; therefore fault diagnosis using stator current is not trivial. The current signals for rotor fault diagnosis need precise and high resolution information, which means the diagnosis system demands additional hardware such as a low pass filter, high resolution ADC, and encoder, etc. The proposed axis-transformation method with encoder and without encoder is expected to contribute to a low cost fault diagnosis system in inverter-fed motor drives without the need for any additional hardware. In order to confirm the validity of the developed algorithms, various experiments for rotor faults are tested and the line current spectrum of each faulty situation using Park transformation is compared with the results obtained from fast Fourier transforms.

  • In proportion to the capacity enlargement of the induction motor system controlled by current source inverter, the capacitance of the commutating capacitor is enlarged and then the spike value of output voltage is increased at the moment of charge and discharge. Moreover, the output currnet includes a number of harmonic components. Such voltage spike and harmonics generate the torque ripple and lead to bad effects on the performance of the induction motor. In this study, all the harmonics excluding 17th and 19th harmonics were mostly elimunated by adopting 18-phase Triple High Frequency Current Source Inverter(HFCSI), and the spike component of output voltage was reduced by adding the Voltage Clamping Circuit(VCC). As a result, the torque ripple and the commutation loss were reduced and the performance of the system was improved. Experiments for speed control were carried out in the tripple current source inverter system for induction motor drive. Overall system was controlled by ONE CHIP MICROCOMPUTER(INTEL 8751). Control circuits were simplified and good experimental results in the constant V/F control were obtained due to the flexibility of the microcomputer.

  • The paper describes an automatic frequency control current-fed inverter for forging applications. The IGBT in series with diodes as its switching devices in the inverter circuit which is of full-bridge type. The operating frequency is automatically tracked to maintain a small constant leading phase angle when load parameters change. The load voltage is controlled to protect the switches. The output power can be adjusted by varying the input current from phase controlled rectifiers which is a part of current source. The system has been operated at 15-17 kHz. The output power transferred to the load is 1,595 watts. It can heat the steel work pieces with 15 mm diameter and 120 mm long from room temperature to approximately 1100 $^{\circ}C$ within 20 seconds with 0.97 leading power factor on the input side.

  • An input power estimation method of a three-phase inverter for the high-efficiency operation of AC motors is proposed. Measuring devices, such as DC link voltage and input current sensors, are required to obtain the input power of the inverter. In the proposed method, the input power of the inverter can be estimated without the input current sensor by using the phase current information of the AC motor and the switching pattern of the inverter. The proposed method is more robust to parameter error than conventional method. The validity of the input power estimation method is verified through experiments conducted on a 1 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor drive system.

  • Microprocessor control of power-electronic equipment offers the possibility of improvements in manufacture, realizability, maintenance and servicing, and increased control flexibility. In this paper, simple microprocessor control with a view to approximating the polynomial equations which govern the commutation angles was consisdered. The theoretical analysis of this principle which govern the commutaton of power switches in order to cancel any predetermined harmonics and vary the fundamental rms voltage of the inverter output is described. Also the spectrum and harmonics were analyzed by HP-1000 computer. Practical aspect of the realization of a voltage controller based on a microprocessor and a suitable system for variable frequency inverter were also presented. The experimental test has been carried out on a Z-80 microcomputer and a single phase transistor inverter. The various results show the feasibility of obtainintg practically a single phase and a three phase inverter waveforms, which are highly desirable in most inverter applications.

  • This paper deals with an algorithm for controlling ac output voltage of Z-source inverter using Modified SVPWM (abbreviated as MSVPWM). Unlike the conventional space vector pulse width modulation, MSVPWM has one extra shoot-through zero time $T_{sh}$. During shoot-through zero time, both switches in a leg are conducted simultaneously in order to boost inverter output voltage to any desirable value regardless the line voltage. The algorithm to control linearly the capacitor voltage is suggested to improve the performance of Z-source inverter system. The performance of Z-source inverter using above algorithms is demonstrated in simulation results using PSIM. Index terms-Z-source inverter (ZSI), shoot-through time, three-phase carrier-based PWM, space vector PWM (SVPWM), modified space vector PWM (MSVPWM).
