Development of a Ballast for an Automotive Headlight (자동차 헤드라이트용 고압방전등의 전자식 안정기 개발)

  • This paper presents an adaptive control scheme of a ballast for HID lamp for an automotive headlight. A flyback converter is used for the voltage step-up and for the control. A full bridge inverter is used as a ballast topology. The proposed control method is an adaptive output power control with a charge control. The developed ballast satisfies the requirement of a fast warm up characteristics and operating stability for an automotive application.

  • The application of the electric propulsion system to the vessels has recently become common due to the latest technology for controlling the electric motors with variable speed. However it has been found that harmonic distortion exists in the electric propulsion system, which consists of an electric motor, a converter and an inverter, and this harmonic distortion has a harmful effect on the system. In this paper, the definition of the harmonic distortion and problems caused by the harmonic distortion in the electric propulsion of the vessels are introduced and the practical solutions for the problems are investigated.

Insulation Evaluation of Low-voltage Induction Motors by Surge Voltages (서지전압에 의한 저압유도전동기의 절연평가)

  • Inverter-fed induction motors (IFM) are prevalent in traction vehicles. However, the winding insulation of IFM is substantially more stressed than of line-powered motors by surge voltages. Consequently, the winding insulation of IFM should be estimated by surge voltages. Also, the weakness of coil insulation can be detected by the surge voltage test. This paper described the insulation evaluation of induction motors by application of surge voltages. A surge voltage generator with the maximum voltage of 5 kV and the selectable rise-time in ranges of $50\;ns\;{\sim}\;500\;ns$ was fabricated. In the experiment, we applied surge voltages into induction motors with the magnitude and the risetime according to IEEE 522. By the analysis of applied surge voltage and current waveforms, we could find difference between normal and defection windings.

  • This paper described the design and fabrication of a series arc detection module to monitor electrical insulation in low-voltage system. The module consists of a passive high-pass filter with a low cut-off frequency of 3 kHz to attenuate power frequency voltage by 80 dB and an active band-pass filter with a frequency of 4 kHz to detect series arc signals only. For the application experiment, we simulated series arcing phenomena on various loads such as incandescent lamp controlled by dimmer and inverter fed induction motors by an arc generator specified in UL1699. From the experimental results, we could detect series arc signals without an influence of noises.

  • Fairchild has been developing a new class IPM called SPM consisting of dramatic Packaging technology to achieve the lowest cost rind better performance for low power home appliances and industrial AC drive applications. The first Fairchild SPM development with IGBT 600V/15A for washing machine application started in 1999 and was completed successfully. Fairchild SPMs are going to be the best solution for low power inverter-driven AC drive system after 2001. The new SPM Packages like SPM ∥ and SPIM for the next generation IPM with the highest competitiveness (cost & performance) shall be continuouslly developed.

  • Because of the increasing demand on the high precision and high response of a machinery, electronic control valves are widely adopted at various application fields. This paper studies on the static characteristic of a first-stage proportional pressure control valve. At first an experimental apparatus including hyd. pump variable speed inverter, pressure and data aquisition system was setted up with the experimental apparatus, various tests such as P-Q-W test, hyd, pump, dynamic, static, frequency response test of the proportional valve was carride out and the results are discussed.

  • This paper describes the application of newly developed conducted EMI reduction technique of SVPWM in induction motor drive. The newly developed common mode voltage reduction SVPWM technique doesn't any zero-voltage vector states for inverter control. Hence it can restrict the common mode voltage better than conventional PWM technique. The proposed technique is verified through simulation and experimental results. And by applying vector-controled system, the proposed technique have superior ability of reducing EMI and equal control performance comparing conventional SVPWM technique.

  • Printed electronics are emerging technology to realize various microelectronic devices via a cost-effective method. Here we introduce high performance inkjet printed polymer field-effect transistors and application to complementary integrated circuits with p-type and n-type conjugated polymers. The performance of devices highly depends on the selection of dielectrics, printing condition and device architecture. The device optimization and performances of various integrated circuits, e.g., complementary inverters and ring oscillators will be mainly discussed in this talk.

  • 본 논문에서는 저가형의 고효율 이단형 탭인덕터 벅-부스트 컨버터를 적용한 마이크로 인버터를 제안한다. 제안하는 인버터는 정상상태 연속모드(CCM)에서 단상전력계통에 고역률의 정현파전류를 공급할 수 있는 새로운 구조이다. 강압시에는 벅 모드로 동작하며, 승압시에는 탭인덕터 부스트 모드로 동작한다. 정류형태의 전류를 인버터에 공급하며, 낮은 주파수를 사용하는 전파정류 인버터가 고역률의 교류 파형으로 변환한다. 벅-부스트에 탭인덕터를 적용함으로써 권선비에 따른 시비율을 조절할 수 있어 극단적인 승압시에도 벅-부스트의 도통을 적절히 유지할 수 있다. 제안하는 인버터는 정상상태 연속모드(CCM), 200W급 하드웨어 프로토타입을 통해 동작특성 및 효율 분석을 하였다.

  • Speed control without speed sensor is expected strongly to progress reliability, simplicity and cost performance of I.M and to expand its application part. This paper investigates a novel speed estimation method of I.M considering the secondary resistance identification based on the transientless torque control technique. Especially, this paper aimed at the identification of the secondary resistance simultaneously with speed estimation. For this, the secondary flux with some frequency is controlled independently on torque. The proposed speed estimation method is derived from a motor circuit equation theoretically and also it can be conducted easily by detecting primary motor currents and primary voltage commands at every sampling time. Some numerical simulations with the assumption of using a pulse width modulation(PWM) voltage source inverter and experimental results are performed to verify the proposed method.
