Characteristics of Compensation for Distorted Optical Pulse with Initial Frequency Chirp in 3 X 40 Gbps WDM Systems Adopted Mid-Span Spectral Inversion

  • In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for distorted optical pulse of wavelength division multiplexed(WDM) channel with initial frequency chirp generated in optical transmitter. The WDM channel signal distortion is due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation(SPM) and cross phase modulation(XPM) in fiber. The considered system is 3 ${\times}$ 40 Gbps intensity modulation direct detection(IM/DD) WDM transmission systems, which adopted mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as compensation method. We confirmed that the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation for signal distortion due to a SPM is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually small. But, in the aspect of a compensation for signal distortion due to both SPM and XPM, the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually large.

  • This paper is concerned with a mixed control with aerodynamic fin and side thrusters applied to an agile missile using two-time scale dynamic inversion and linear time-varying control technique. The nonlinear dynamic inversion method with the weighting function allocates the desired control inputs (aerodynamic fin and side thrusters) to track a reference trajectory, and the time-varying control technique guarantees the robustness for the uncertainties. Closed-loop stability is achieved by the assignment of the extended-mean of these linear time-varying eigenvalues to the left half complex plane. The proposed schemes are validated by nonlinear simulations.

  • The time to measure the size distribution using Condensation Nuclei Counter(CNC) and Differential Mobility Analyzer(DMA) can be shortened by classifying particles ramping the DMA voltage exponentially and continuously. In measurement, particles sampled at different time are mixed together going through sampling tube and CNC. Because the size distribution is inversed by using detector responses to sampling time intervals in this accelerated method, the mixing effects give inversion errors to the size distribution. The mixing effects can be considered by appling the transfer function with mixing effects to the data inversion. The inversion considering this effects gives birth to the size distribution shifted to the opposite direction of the size scanning.

  • We have demonstrated 200 km non-dispersion shifted fiber(NDSF) transmission of 10 Gb/s signal by using mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) method as a dispersion compensation technique. We have used four-wave mixing process in dispersion shifted fiber(DSF) to generate a spectrum inverted signal. The spectral inversion efficiency of -26.7dB and signal to noise ratio of 23.0 dB have been achieved. The measured sensitivities at $10^{-9}$ bit error rates (BER) were -28.0 dBm in back to back configuration and -27.0 dBm after transmission of 200 km NDSF.

  • In this paper, An inversion technique to reconstruct permittivity profiles of 2-D inhomogeneous dielectric objects by iterativeprocess using the moment-methodand improved newton's algoritham is presented. In order to reduce the noise effect in the scattered fieldon the reconstructed permittivity profiles, the cell size of inversescattering is made be larger than that of forward scattering. Performing numerical calculations of dielectric scatterer it is demonstrated that this inversion is able to reconstruct dielectric objectshaving large size and inhomogeneous characteristics, which is insentive tothe noise effect in the scattered field on the reconstructed result.

  • This paper is concerned with a mixed control with aerodynamic fin and side thrust control applied to an agile missile using a dynamic inversion and a time-varying control technique.   • This study presents a practical procedure for the Bayesian inversion of geophysical data by Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling and geostatistics. We have applied geostatistical techniques for the acquisition of prior model information, and then the MCMC method was adopted to infer the characteristics of the marginal distributions of model parameters. For the Bayesian inversion of dipole-dipole array resistivity data, we have used the indicator kriging and simulation techniques to generate cumulative density functions from Schlumberger array resistivity data and well logging data, and obtained prior information by cokriging and simulations from covariogram models. The indicator approach makes it possible to incorporate non-parametric information into the probabilistic density function. We have also adopted the MCMC approach, based on Gibbs sampling, to examine the characteristics of a posteriori probability density function and the marginal distribution of each parameter. This approach provides an effective way to treat Bayesian inversion of geophysical data and reduce the non-uniqueness by incorporating various prior information.

  • In this paper a numerical experiment is conducted to determine the low acoustic impedance of a thin oil or gas reservoir from a seismogram by using the generalized linear inversion method. The seismograms used are normal incident synthetic seismograms containing p-wave primary reflections, multiples, and peg-leg multiples on the layers consisting of oil-, gas-, water-filled sandstone incased in shales. In this experiment the acoustic impedance, the location of reservoir boundary, thickness, and source wavelet are assumed initially and revised iteratively by the least-squares-error technique until the difference between the seismogram and calculated one is very small. This experiment shows that the acoustic impedance and thickness, about 10 m thick, can be determined by the inversion.

  • "Throttle-by-Wire" is an electronic throttle system in which mechanical cables and hydraulics are replaced by a fieldbus network, electric motors and sensors. It is crucial for an electronic throttle to design a controller that can offer an accurate and fast reference tracking performance in the presence of nonlinearities, such as friction in the gearbox and "limp-home" nonlinearity. This paper presents a nonlinear dynamic inversion based control algorithm for electronic throttle systems. Using the proposed method, the specified control performance can be achieved by canceling inherent nonlinear characteristics of the electronic throttle system. The control performance is investigated through a set of simulation results.

  • To improve the performance of inner loop based on PD controller for a unmanned helicopter, neural networks are applied. The performance of PD controller designed on the response characteristics of error dynamics decreases because of uncertain nonlinearities of the system. The nonlinearities are decoupled to modified dynamic inversion model(MDIM) and are compensated by the neural networks. For the training of the neural networks, online weight adaptation laws which are derived from Lyapunov's direct method are used to guarantee the stability of the controller. The results of the improved performance of PD controller by neural networks are illustrated in the simulation of unmanned helicopter with nonlinearities,
