  • Advances in mobile and wireless networking technologies have enabled mobile ad hoc networks applicable to a wide range of areas. Many cases of even such ad hoc networks demand to be accessible to the global network. Owing to be diversified in features depending on applications, however, some those networks may consist of devices or nodes which do not facilitate all the same transport protocols. This results in unreachable situations of establishing ad hoc network: such as non-existence of all required access points, faults or contention in a path of particular protocol communication. Interworking between different transport protocols can alleviate such problems. This paper proposes an interworking scheme to improve data transport performance and network accessibility, especially in such a mobile ad hoc network that is applicable to data communications among ships or user's convenient u-health services. Modeling and simulation analysis are used to verify the improvement.

  • Simulation analysis may be the essential means to either evaluate performance of systems or optimize system parameters for new design. Including many variations for design and implementation, MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork) is one target area of such an analysis. Since every node, however, included in the network has mobility, one MANET could be overlapped or merged with another one which use a different transport protocol. In order to communicate among nodes in this case, the new merged network should configure paths and addresses in advance. Configuring paths and addresses generates much overheads which ultimately cause delay in communicating data. Performance analysis is required to improve the data transport performance by minimizing overheads. This paper proposes a sound address auto-configuration method which is based on an on-demand manner and then presents modeling and performance analysis of the method. NS-2 simulation results verify that the proposed method can not only alleviate overheads, which are inevitably generated for address auto-configuration processes, and but also decentralize them in time.

  • For realizing an ubiquitous home network(uHome-net), various sensors should be able to be connected to an integrated wire/wireless sensor network. This paper describes an application case of applying LonWorks technology being widely used in control network to wire/wireless sensor network in uHome-net and the design and application of LonRF device that consists of a neuron chip including LonTalk protocol, a 433.92MHz RF transceiver, a sensor, and application programs. As an application example of the LonRF device, the LonRF smart badge that can measure the 3D location of objects in indoor environment and interwork with the uHome-net was developed. LonRF device based home network services were realized on the uHome-net testbed such as indoor positioning service, remote surveillance service and remote metering service were realized. This research shows that LonWorks technology based sensor network could be applicable to the control network in an ubiquitous home network and the LonRF device can be used as a wireless node in various sensor networks.

  • This paper proprses the architeecture of an interconnection network for Advanced Information Communi-cation Procssing System(AICPS)developde for prividing open information communication servies on a variety of heterogeneous networks. The proposed Interconnection network, called High Speed Swiching Fabric(HSSF),has been designed by a common bus.It can handile 32 i/O channels, each of which uses serial communication method using 100Mbps TAXI.The switching bandwidth of the common bus is 640Mvps.Each I/O channel can be alloted about 20Mbps bandwidth in steady state, and therefore it's sufficient bandwidth is able to interwork with ISDN and Internet services, as well as PSTN. HSSF is composed of the switching board assembly, the subscriber,I/O board assemly, and the backplane board assembly. An attached node takes in the network adapter board assembly to adapt the high speed interworking protocol. For reliability,HSSF is duplicated with load-sharing method.
