  • Insulation and condensation performance evaluation (I&CPE) is an important energy analysis. While considerable amount of data are already represented in a Building Information Model (BIM), the lack of interoperability between BIM modeling and I&CPE programs prevents the simulation process from being efficient and accurate. This study proposes a prototype of a BIM-based I&CPE simulation program, in order to enhance the interoperability between BIM modeling and I&CPE programs. This study discusses the information flow process, defines the required information and its level of detail, develops standardized libraries, and finally proposes a prototype that consists of a data extraction module, conversion module, and performance module. The assurance of interoperability between systems might greatly benefit architects and energy professionals.

  • In the initial step of BIM based architectural design process, workloads are increased and the decision making process becomes more complex than those of the conventional design process. Technologies regarding distribution, exchange, classification, verification of BIM data are fundamental elements of construct environment for information sharing based on BIM. Interoperability of BIM model data is another issue to integrate BIM model. To improve interoperability in BIM-based collaboration, a model for utilizing formal&unformal design informations is suggested. Futhermore, Prototyping the model and practical test is conducted for advancement of data exchange making design data richen.

  • Due to the needs of design optimization and productivity for modernized Korean traditional house, standardization of Korean traditional building components is proceeding by BIM (Building Information Modeling). Currently, most of BIM software support object-based parametric modeling. By means of parameterized Korean traditional building components, the shape and assembly relation can be controlled. Although IFC(ISO/PAS 16739), which is an international standard in the AEC field, has been developed for information exchange among BIM software, IFC and other existing common data formats cannot be exchangeable parametric information. For the exchangeable parametric information within IFC, the authors defined meta-data by using Pset(Property-Set). The authors analyzed results about interoperability test in Revit $Architecture^{TM}$, $ArchiCAD^{TM}$ and Digital $Project^{TM}$. In order to solve found problems, the authors developed a translator to improve interoperability among BIM software.

  • The purpose of the present study is to suggest the extern BIM reference model for interoperability between BIM and GIS. After we surveyed the research progress and usecases related to the interoperability to do this, we analyzed the architecture of the neutral model such as IFC, CityGML to identify the differences between these and expand CityGML model. By using this result, we proposed the external BIM reference model including the metadata which defines mapping rules from IFC to CityGML.

  • We examine interoperability for integrated training simulation of a mechanized infantry battalion that uses a war game model of Korean army, Combat 21, and virtual simulators of K1 tanks. We discuss issues and problems for integrated simulation of the virtual and constructive models, including differences between the model scopes, model resolutions, engagement algorithms, and data consistency and training audiences of the war game model and virtual simulators. From these, we identify interoperability requirements. We propose ways of resolving the problems using a model converter.

  • It is necessary to resolve the syntax, structure and semantic heterogeneity for sharing information resources. And the representative technologies are XML and Metadata. XML has been used to represent the syntax and structure, and metadata has been used to represent the semantic meaning of information resources. However, various metadata sets in one or more domains that have been developed by each independent organizations without any standards or guidelines, make it difficult to share their information resource. In this paper, we propose an interoperability framework (FSMI, Framework for Sharable Metadata Interoperability) on MDR (Metadata Registry) to increase the interoperability of XML encoded information resources between systems using different metadata sets.

  • Cloud computing has proven its efficiency, especially after the increasing number of cloud services offered by a wide range of cloud providers, from different domains. Despite, these cloud services are mostly heterogeneous. Consequently, and due to the rising interest of cloud consumers to adhere to a multi-cloud environment instead of being locked-in to one cloud provider, the need for semantically interconnecting different cloud services from different cloud providers is a crucial and important task to ensure. In addition, considerable research efforts proposed interoperability solutions leading to different representation models of cloud services. In this work, we present our solution to overcome this limitation, precisely in the IAAS service model. This solution is a framework permitting the semantic interoperability of different IAAS resources in a multi-cloud environment, in order to assist cloud consumers to retrieve the cloud resource that meets specific requirements.

  • Ontologies are expected in various areas as promising tools to improve communication among people and to achieve interoperability among systems. For communications between different business domains, building an ontology through integrating existing ontologies is more efficient way than building the ontology without them. However, integration of ontologies is very struggling work since languages, domains, and structures of ontologies are different from each other. In this paper, we suggest an Ontology Architecture which solves this problem by providing a systematic framework to classify ontologies from three kinds of viewpoints : language, domain range, constructs. The Ontology Architecture consists of 3 axes according to the 3 viewpoints : Ontology Meta Layer axis, Semantic Domain Layer axis, and Ontology Constructs Layer axis. Because 3 axes in Ontology Architecture are designed to improve the syntactic and semantic interoperability among ontologies, the integration of ontologies can be readily achieved.

  • This paper analyzes the hazard related to train control, the functional requirements for atrain control system(TCS) and the automatic train protection(ATP) functional allocation that ensures the interoperability of a radio communications-based TCS. In addition, the interoperability can be obtained using wireless communications technology standards and standardized functional allocations of TCS performed on the wayside and onboard. Using this information, an integrated operating system for a rail network can be constructed. The functional allocations of TCS that support interoperability, require hazard analysis of TCS and definition of the system requirements. The hazard factors for a TCS are confirmed through setting the train safety space control and train speed limit excess. Furthermore, this paper determines the impact of the hazard factors on the TCS and, defines the functional requirements for the TCS subsystems and the ATP wayside and onboard functional allocations.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate a way to increase interoperability between information systems. We proposed a technical reference model (TRM) and a standard profile (SP) that are components of ITA as tools to secure information system interoperability. First, we composed TRM by choosing technology field that need standardization for information system interoperability. And, we choose standards to apply in each technology field of TRM as a interoperability common SP.
