  • The population sparseness index(PSI) is being utilized to describe the functioning of internal layers in artificial neural networks from the perspective of neurons, shedding light on the black-box nature of the network's internal operations. There is research indicating a positive correlation between the PSI and performance in each layer of convolutional neural network models for image classification. In this study, we observed the internal operations of a convolutional neural network when adversarial examples were applied. The results of the experiments revealed a similar pattern of positive correlation for adversarial examples, which were modified to maintain 5% accuracy compared to applying benign data. Thus, while there may be differences in each adversarial attack, the observed PSI for adversarial examples demonstrated consistent positive correlations with benign data across layers.

  • Policies are collections of general principles specifying the desired behavior and state of a system. Network management is mainly carried out by following policies about the behavior of the resources in the network. Policy-based (PB) network management supports to manage distributed system in a flexible and dynamic way. This paper focuses on configuration management based on Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards. Network security approaches include the usage of intrusion detection system to detect the intrusion, building firewall to protect the internal systems and network. This paper presents how the policy-based framework is collaborated among the network security systems (intrusion detection system, firewall) and intrusion detection systems are cooperated to detect the intrusions.

  • A method of applying a recurrent backpropagation network to identifying or modelling a dynamic system is proposed. After the recurrent backpropagation network having both the characteristicsof interpolative network and associative network is applied to XOR problem, a new model of recurrent backpropagation network is proposed and compared with the original recurrent backpropagation network by applying them to XOR problem. based on the observation thata function can be approximated with polynomials to arbitrary accuracy, the new model is developed so that it may generate higher-order terms in the internal states Moreover, it is shown that the new network is succesfully applied to recognizing noisy patterns of numbers.

  • Internal stability is an important safety issue for levees, embankments, and other earthen structures. Since a large part of the world's population lives near oceans, lakes and rivers, floods resulting from breaching of dams can lead to devastating disasters with tremendous loss of life and property, especially in densely populated areas. There are some main factors that affect the internal stability of dams, levees and other earthen structures, such as the erodibility of the soil, the water velocity inside the soil mass and the geometry of the earthen structure, etc. Thus, the mechanism of internal erosion and stability of soils is very complicated and it is vital to investigate the assessment methods of internal stability of soils in embankment dams and their foundations. This paper presents an improved support vector machine (SVM) model to predict the internal stability of soils. The grid search algorithm (GSA) is employed to find the optimal parameters of SVM firstly, and then the cross - validation (CV) method is employed to estimate the classification accuracy of the GSA-SVM model. Two examples of internal stability of soils are presented to validate the predictive capability of the proposed GSA-SVM model. In addition to verify the effectiveness of the proposed GSA-SVM model, the predictions from the proposed GSA-SVM model were compared with those from the traditional back propagation neural network (BPNN) model. The results showed that the proposed GSA-SVM model is a feasible and efficient tool for assessing the internal stability of soils with high accuracy.

  • Banyan network is a popular and basic structure of the multistage ATM switches. This paper presents a novel approach to resolve the internal blocking of the banyan network by using Non-Blocking Permutation Generator (NBPG). The NBPG performs two functions, i.e., the first is to extract the conflict cells from the incoming cells and the second is to re-assign new input port addresses to the conflict cells. As a result, NBPG generates non-blocking I/O permutations. To estimate the performance of NBPG, we provide several simulation results.

  • In this paper, we proposed an block-based evolvable neural network(BENN). The BENN can optimize it's structure and weights simultaneously. It can be easily implemented by FPGA whose connection and internal functionality can be reconfigured. To solve the local minima problem that is caused gradient descent learning algorithm, genetic algorithms are applied for optimizing the proposed evolvable neural network model.

  • By using Neural Networks, a 8$\times$8 Banyan network controller is designed and implemented. In order to solve internal blocking and output blocking, Winner-Take-All method is used. The longer queue takes higher priority. First-in-first-out method is used among the non-blocking cells in the queue selected. The required time to select a cell is 2.7 $\mu$sec for 155Mbps. The implemented controller using Xilinx FPGA chip selects cells within 2.5$\mu$sec.

  • The Internet's low cost and ubiquity present an attractive option for real-time distributed control of processes on the factory floor. When integrated with the Internet, the LonWorks open control network can give ubiquitous accessibility with the distributed control nature of information on the factory floor. One of the most important points in real-time distributed control of processes is timely response. There are many processes on the factory floor that require timely response. However, the uncertain time delay inherent in the network makes it difficult to guarantee timely response in many cases. Especially, the transmission characteristics of the LonWorks/IP network show a highly stochastic nature. Therefore, the time delay problem has to be resolved to achieve high performance and quality of the real-time distributed control of the process in the LonWorks/IP Virtual Device Network (VDN). It should be properly predicted and compensated. In this paper, a new distributed control scheme that can compensate for the effects of the time delay in the network is proposed. It is based on the PID controller augmented with the Smith predictor and disturbance observer. Designing methods for output feedback filter and disturbance observer are also proposed. Tracking position control experiment of a geared DC Servo motor is performed using the proposed control method. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with that of the Internal Model Controller (IMC) with the Smith predictor. The result shows that the performance is improved and guaranteed by augmenting a PID controller with both the Smith predictor and disturbance observer under the stochastic time delay in the LonWorks/IP VDN.

  • Companies that handle sensitive information, led by public institutions, establish separate networks for work and the Internet and protect important data through strong access control measures to prevent cyber attacks. Therefore, systems that involve the junction where the Intranet(internal LAN for work purposes only) and the Internet network are connected require the establishment of a safe security environment through both administrative and technical measures. Mobile Device Management(MDM) solutions to control mobile devices used by institutions are one such example. As this system operates by handling sensitive information such as mobile device information and user information on the Internet network, stringent security measures are required during operation. In this study, a model was proposed to manage sensitive information data processing in systems that must operate on the Internet network by managing it on the internal work network, and the function design and implementation were centered on an MDM solution based on a network interconnection solution.

  • Element-focused network analysis method for truss structure is proposed. The propagation process of loads from external loads to connected other elements is similar to that of connections between nodes in accordance with attachment rule in a network. Here nodes indicate elements in a truss structure and edges represent propagated loads. Therefore, the flows of loads in a truss structure can be calculated using the network analysis method, and consequently the structure can also be analyzed. As a first step to analyze a truss structure as a network, we propose a local load transfer rule in accordance with the topology of elements, and then analyze the loads of the truss elements. Application of this method reveal that the internal loads and reactions caused by external loads can be accurately estimated. Consequently, truss structures can be considered as networks and network analysis method can be applied to further complex truss structures.
