In this paper, a spectral element model is developed for the uniform straight pipelines conveying internal unsteady fluid. The spectral element matrix is formulated by using the exact frequency-domain solutions of the pipe-dynamics equations. The spectral element dynamic analyses are then conducted to evaluate the accuracy of the present spectral element model and to investigate the vibration characteristics and internal fluid transients of an example pipeline system.

Most existing studies for stress analysis of teeth have employed small number of teeth, and used big element size using F-E models. Therefore, the results are not accuracy enough for showing the internal stress variation. 15 males' and 13 females' mandibular first premolar are employed for internal structure's study of teeth and small element size for a FE model are used. According to these processes, stress distribution of internal parts of teeth are well shown, and the stresses are varied a lot between enamel layer and dentine layer, but there is little variation on pulp chamber.
In this study, the internal waves in two-density layered fluids were analyzed using the Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) technique in the frequency domain. The NWT is based on a two-domain Boundary Element Method with the potential fluids using the whole-domain matrix scheme. From the mathematical solution of the two-domain boundary integral equation, two different wave modes could be classified: a surface wave mode and an internal wave mode, and each mode were shown to have a wave number determined by a respective dispersion relation. The magnitudes of the internal waves against surface waves were investigated for various fluid densities and water depths. The calculated results are compared with available theoretical data.

In order to investigate the effect of nozzle on stress concentration in pressure vessels, three dimensional finite element analyses were performed. The results were compared with those for corresponding two dimensional axisymmetric finite element analyses. A three dimensional finite element model with a surface crack was also designed to evaluate the effect of internal pressure and heat transfer on crack face, and the resulting stress intensity factors from the finite element analyses were compared with those for ASME Sec. XI and Raju-Newman's stress intensity factor solution. As a result, the validity of currently available stress intensity factor solutions for a surface crack was reviewed in the presence of geometrical complexity, heat transfer and internal pressure.

Internal contact scheme between two free surfaces on one deforming body has been proposed by using the penalty method. It has been imposed to be internal boundary condition on two-dimensional thermo-viscoplastic finite element method so as to analyze one deforming body, which has two free surfaces penetrating each others. Analysis of side pressing with a circular void and a inclined elliptic hole have been carried out in order to verity the proposed contact scheme. A finite element code imposed internal boundary condition has been applied to two-dimensional analysis of free forging of large ingot with a void. Through the analysis, effects of working parameters in order to consolidate voids have been investigated.
Internal and external acoustic fields of the engine inlet are calculated by using a finite element method. The far fields non reflecting boundary condition is enforced by using a wave envelope element, which is a kind of infinite element. The geometry is assumed an axisymetric duct. Sources of the fan are modeled by the Tyler and Sofrin's theory. Effects of uniformly moving medium are considered. A pulsating sphere and an oscillating piston problem are calculated to verify the external problems, and compared with exact solutions. When the wave envelope element is applied at the far boundary, the calculated finite element solutions show good agreements with the exact solutions. The engine inlet is solved with the combined internal and external grid. The cut-off phenomena on engine inlet duct are observed.
The waveguide finite element (WFE) method is a useful numerical technique to investigate wave propagation along waveguide structures which have uniform cross-sections along the length direction ('x' direction). In the present paper, the vibration and radiated noise of the submerged pipe with fluid is investigated numerically by coupling waveguide finite elements and wavenumber boundary elements. The pipe and internal fluid are modelled with waveguide finite elements and the external fluid with wavenumber boundary elements which are fully coupled. In order to examine this model, the point mobility, dispersion curves and radiated power are calculated and compared for several different coupling conditions between the pipe and internal/external fluids.

This paper presents an advanced computational method for the prediction of the responses in the frequency domain of general linear dissipative structural-acoustic and fluid-structure systems, in the low-and medium-frequency domains and this includes uncertainty quantification. The system under consideration is constituted of a deformable dissipative structure that is coupled with an internal dissipative acoustic fluid. This includes wall acoustic impedances and it is surrounded by an infinite acoustic fluid. The system is submitted to given internal and external acoustic sources and to the prescribed mechanical forces. An efficient reduced-order computational model is constructed by using a finite element discretization for the structure and an internal acoustic fluid. The external acoustic fluid is treated by using an appropriate boundary element method in the frequency domain. All the required modeling aspects for the analysis of the medium-frequency domain have been introduced namely, a viscoelastic behavior for the structure, an appropriate dissipative model for the internal acoustic fluid that includes wall acoustic impedance and a model of uncertainty in particular for the modeling errors. This advanced computational formulation, corresponding to new extensions and complements with respect to the state-of-the-art are well adapted for the development of a new generation of software, in particular for parallel computers.
Using the concept of quasi-static decomposition and using three-noded isoparametric locking-free element, this article presents a formulation of the finite element method for Timoshenko beam subjected to spatially different time-dependent motions at supports. To verify the validity of the formulation, three fixed-hinged beams excited by the real seismic motions are examined; one is a slender beam, another is a stocky one, and the other is an intermediate one. The numerical results of time histories of motions of the three beams are compared with corresponding analytical solutions. The internal loads such as bending moment and shearing force at a specific time are also compared with analytic solutions. These comparisons show good agreements. The comparisons between static components of the internal loads and the corresponding total internal loads show that the static components predominate in the stocky beam, whereas the dynamic components predominate in the slender one. Thus, the total internal loads of the stocky beam, which is governed by static components, can be predicted simply by static analysis. Careful numerical experiments indicate that the fundamental frequency of a beam can be used as a parameter identifying such a stocky beam.

This paper considers a pipeline conveying one-dimensional unsteady flow inside. The dynamics of the fluid-pipe system is represented by two coupled equations of motion for the transverse and axial displacements, which are linearized from a set of partial differential equations which consists of the axial and transverse equations of motion of the pipeline and the equations of momentum and continuity of the internal flow. Because of the complex nature of fluid-pipe interactive mechanism, a very accurate solution method is required to get sufficiently accurate dynamic characteristics of the pipeline. In the literatures, the finite element models have been popularly used for the problems. However, it has been well recognized that finite element method (FEM) may provide poor solutions especially at high frequency. Thus, in this paper, a spectral element model is developed for the pipeline and its accuracy is evaluated by comparing with the solutions by FEM.
