  • This study was aimed at the design of the dies for the unified pipe joint of the intermediate shaft using the computer simulation to shorten the period of production, on the basis of the process planning which was designed by the field experts. In the computer simulation, 'Deform-3d' and 'eesy-DieOpt' have been used, which are the commercial process analysis and die design program. Through the process analysis, we could know the propriety of the forming process, the inner pressure of the die and the suitable fitting pressure between the insert and the sleeve which was not showing any positive tangential stresses in the insert. Through the simulation of die design, we could know the number of the stress ring, the diameter ratios, the stresses of the die, the shrink fitting tolerance and temperature in the condition of the already determined maximum outer die diameter of the multi-stage former. The validity of the die design using the computer simulation was analyzed by the experiments and the results were satisfactory. As the results of this study, the new and easy die design system for multi-forging has been developed.

  • In this study, the characteristics of bearing capacity and deformation of intermediate soils are investigated through centrifuge tests. The experimental parameters are footing width, initial stress condition of soils and relative loading rate defined relationship of loading rate and permeability of soils. It is examined that loading rate influences on the bearing capacities and deformations. Based on the test results, some problem of existing specification are introduced in the view of related loading rates and load intensities. Especially it is showed that load intensities magnitude rlre reversed in the same settlement ratio(s/B(%)), due to partial drained effect as well as loading rates in undrained con dition based on the excess pore pressure and deformations measured under loading.

  • Hydrodynamic ram of aircraft fuel tanks is one of main ballistic battle damages of an aircraft and has great importance to airframe survivability design. Basic concept, physics and research history of hydrodynamic ram are investigated. The penetration and internal detonation of a simple fuel tank and ICW(Intermediate Complexity Wing) are analyzed by computational method. Structural rupture and fluid burst are analytically realized using general coupling and coupling surface interaction. The results such as fluid pressure, tank stress and displacement are shown and future research chances are suggested based on the study.

  • In an attempt to investigate the effect of intermedate principal stresses which are related to the stress-strain behavior of standard sands, a series of three-Principal stress control tests were conducted for individual stress paths. The results have shown that shear strengths of sands vary with the stress paths. The variations in internal friction angle are accorded with the Habibs stress parameter, b which represents Stress paths, showing on abropt increase at the values between 0.0 and 0.268, a moderate level between 0.268 and 0.682, and a slight decrease between 0.682 and 1.0 However, the friction angles under a triaxial extention state, were found relatively larger than under a triaxial compression state. In general, such veriations were found to have the same tendency without any relevant relation with the density of specimens and confining pressures. Therefore, it is concluded, that the shear strength of sands are positively influeced by the intermediate principal stresses present in the media. And the influnce of intermediate principal stresses on shear strengths of sands found from the present study are well compared with the previous studies by Lade-Duncan and Matsuoka-Nakai revealing a similar tendency within the failure criteria proposed by them.

  • Objectives The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between the chronotype and the burnout, so we investigated the mediating effects of the mediators such as perceived stress, stress response, and depression. Methods Employees working at Incheon Customs conducted a mental health self-examination through the internet. Among them, 174 people who agreed to the mental health survey participated in the study. Participants completed questionnaires including Composite Scale of Morningness (CSM), Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Stress Response Inventory (SRI), Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS). Results Our results showed a higher degree of CES-D, SRI, exhaustion, and cynicism in evening and intermediate type compared to morning type, and a higher degree of professional efficacy in morning type compared to intermediate type. CSM was shown to have a direct effect on exhaustion and indirect effect through CES-D and SRI. CSM also had a direct effect on professional efficacy and had an indirect effect through the CES-D. However, CSM was found to have only indirect effects through the SRI for Cynicism. Conclusions In this study, individuals with evening type tend to experience a high degree of burnout (exhaustion, cynicism and professional efficacy) through the mediation effect of depression and stress response. Further study is necessary to reveal the effect of management of the depression and stress response in the employee with evening type.

  • The research on the confinement behavior of ultra high performance concrete without and with the use of steel fibers (UHPC and UHPFRC) has been extremely limited. In previous studies, authors experimentally investigated the axially compressive behavior of circular steel tube confined concrete (STCC) short and intermediate columns with the employment of UHPC and UHPFRC. Under loading on only the concrete core, the confinement effect induced by the steel tube was shown to significantly enhance the utimate stress and its corresponding strain of the concrete core. Therefore, this paper develops a simplified stress - strain model for circular STCC columns using UHPC and UHPFRC with compressive strength ranging between 150 MPa and 200 MPa. Based on the regression analysis of previous test results, formulae for predicting peak confined stress and its corresponding strain are proposed. These proposed formulae are subsequently compared against some previous empirical formulae available in the literature to assess their accuracy. Finally, the simplified stress - strain model is verified by comparison with the test results.

  • Intermediate annealing was carried out during wire drawing for uniform deformation of 500 m class Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes. Wire drawing force was measured to evaluate the uniformity of wire deformation along the length. To prevent sausage and filament breakage of wire, drawing stress was controlled below 200 MPa by using intermediate annealing process. Thickness and width of the rolled tapes was measured 0.23 mm and 4.1 mm with low deviation $\pm$ 0.08 mm and $\pm$ 0.09 mm, respectively. The critical current of the 500 m tapes was measured 33.7 A $\pm$ 3.7 A by continuous critical current measurement system.

  • The contribution of damage mechanisms to failure of steam turbine casing made of Cr-Mo-V steel was investigated. Creep-fatigue interaction on the HP side corner of turbine casing was revealed as the root cause of the catastrophic failure performed by metallurgical analysis. The steady-state pressure and transient thermal stress were analyzed based on the actual operating condition of the thermal plant. Damage of creep-fatigue interaction to crack initiation was evaluated with multiaxial effects. The contribution ratio of creep and fatigue to the crack initiation was estimated to 3:1. Temporary geometrical correct action with repair weld was executed. For long-term operation, design improvement of casing equipment for creep resistance should be needed.

  • Generally, diaphragms are installed in the box girder to prevent or decrease the distortion of the cross section. In engineering practice, diaphragms are spaced in 5m intervals without reasonable basis. the usual diaphragm type is solid-plate type. It is considered to be noneconomical design to the almost design engineers. In this paper, the parametric study was performed to present the design proposal about the diaphragm stiffness and spacing only in the single cell box girder. For that, the distortional warping normal stress, bending normal stress and transverse bending normal stress were analyzed using finite element program 'SMB' for the accurate structural analysis.

  • A series of cubical triaxial tests with three independent principal stresses was per- formed on Baekma river sand( # 40~100). It was found that the major principal strain at failure remained approximately constant for b values larger than about 0.3 for both the drained and undrained condition, and thereafter increased as b value decreased. The test results showed that the direction of the strain increment at failure form acute angles with the failure surfaces for both the drained and undrained condition. The results were thus not in agreement with the normality condition from classic plasticity theory. Howev- er, it was found that the projections of the plastic strain increment vectors on the octahe- dral plane were perpendicular to the failure surface in that plane. Failure strength in terms of effective stress anlaysis was greatly influenced by the variation of intermediate principal stress and so was failure criterion. The effective stress failure surfaces for both the drained and undrained condition were estimated quite well by use of Lade's failure criterion.
