  • M85 is a nearby merger remnant galaxy located at the northern part of the Virgo Cluster. Because of its remarkable merging features, it is an interesting object to investigate its formation history. Globular clusters are a great tracer of the formation history of early-type galaxies, so that we study the globular cluster system of M85. It has been already found that there are "intermediate-color" globular clusters as well as blue and red ones based on the photometric survey using CFHT/Megacam. For follow-up research, we obtain the spectra of 21 globular clusters in the central region of M85 using Gemini-N/GMOS. We estimate their ages and metallicities based on the strength of Lick indices. We detect the intermediate-age population (~ 2 Gyr) with solar metallicities, comprising about 50% of the observed globular clusters, as well as old and metal-poor population. It suggests that M85 experienced a major merging event around 2 Gyr ago. We discuss these results regarding to the formation history of M85.

  • A photoelectric dimming control system for a small private office space with a double skin envelope system was analyzed for the purpose of examining optimum control performances under a variety of daylight conditions. Computer simulations were performed for the three different photosensor types positioned at the center of ceiling in the space. They were applied in both a south and north-facing room. Daylight conditions were a fixed horizontal venetian blind on an external envelope and a retractable shading device on an internal envelope under a clear, intermediate and overcast sky at different times of a day and year. Partially-shielded photosensors provided good control performances providing the required electric light output under clear and intermediate sky conditions. Unshielded photosensors failed to provide necessary illuminance levels producing less electric output and fully-shielded photosensors generally provided excessive light output. Reasonable electric lighting energy savings were achieved except under overcast sky conditions where the control system did not contribute to energy savings due to the less daylight through envelopes. The retractable shading device covering 50% of the internal envelope reduced energy savings up to 19.62%, but the workplane illuminance levels were maintained within recommended ranges. The coefficients of determination between workplane illuminance and photosensor illuminance due to daylight ranged from 0.74 to 0.98. Partially-shielded conditions provided best correlations and the north-facing room yielded stronger correlation than the south-facing room.

  • In this study, as an initial study for development of stability analysis program of a double-deck tunnel during life cycle, a structural analysis solver based beam-spring model for the double-deck tunnel is constructed. Effect of parameters(slab supporting type, depth of the tunnel and ground elastic modulus) is analyzed with the beam-spring model. The model is also compared and verified by commercial structural analysis program. It is considered that the slab supporting type affects the integrated behavior with segment lining and influence of intermediate slab on the stability of the tunnel decreases as the tunnel depth increases. The relationship between the ground elastic modulus and the effect of the intermediate slab on the segment lining needs further investigation.

  • This study is to inspect and analyse the historical background, spacial organization and architectural features about the traditional government office building of Gangwon Gamyoung(the supreme local government office of Gangwondo in Chosun dynasty). The results are as follows. - Gangwon Gamyoung was located at the center of Gangwondo in consideration of distance to each small local office. And also it was located in consideration of geographical connection between Hanseong(today's Seoul). - The spatial organization of Gamyoung was divided into the three parts of entrance space, government office building space and backyard space. The entrance space was composed of three gates(Pojungru-Jungsammun-Naesammun). The government office building Space was consisted of business and living building as center of Sunhwadang(the main office building). And the backyard space was composed of Yonji(pond), Jungja(bower), and so on - The way to enter the space of Gamyoung follows the order from Pojungru(the first & outer main gate with a bower), Jungsammun(the second & intermediate gate), Naesammun(the third & inner gate) to Sunhwadang at last. - There were a beautiful Yonji(pond) which to be rectangular type and to have a round island with Bongraegak(bower) at Gamyoung backyard, the drain conduit and pedestrian road covered with pebble in the ground.

  • In some space truss applications, particularly those with large spans, the choice of a triple-layer system might prove more cast effective than the more commonly used double-layer solution. However, there are currently no clear guidelines as to which system would be more competitive for intermediate span lengths. In this paper, comparisons in terms of the weight, stiffness and number of joints and members are made between the two system types and presented in order to simplify the choice process for the designer. The comparisons are carried out using an approximate analysis technique that is explained in this paper, and checked to be reasonably accurate and suitable for the preliminary design of space trusses.

  • A new algorithm for planning a collision free path is developed based on linear parametric curve. A collision-free path is viewed as a connected space curve in which the path consists of two straight curve connecting start to target point. A single intermediate connection point is considered in this paper and is used to manipulate the shape of path by organizing the control point in polar coordinate (.theta.,.rho.). The algorithm checks interference with obstacles, defined as GM (Geometry Mapping), and maps obstacles in Euclidean Space into images in CPS (Connection Point Space). The GM for all obstacles produces overlapping images of obstacle in CPS. The clear area of CPS that is not occupied by obstacle images represents collision-free paths in Euclidean Space. Any points from the clear area of CPS is a candidate for a collision-free path. A simulation of GM for number of cases are carried out and results are presented including mapped images of GM and performances of algorithm.

  • We designed the Intermediate Frequency(IF) distributor for multi beam backend system and manufactured Voltage to Frequency Converter(VFC) to measure the multi-beam receiver performance. Multi beam receiver has 15 channel receivers and can get 15 spectrums at once. The multi beam receiver has more observation efficiency than single beam receiver. We manufactured the 15 IF distributors to distribute IF signal for Autocorrelation spectrometer that is radio signal processor. Also, we manufactured the VF Converter to test the performance measurement of receiver for Korea VLBI Network(KVN) system which is under-construct in Seoul, Ulsan and Jeju. As a result of performance measurement, we could obtain linearity of 99.4% on the input power vs output frequency and measured the operating range of input frequency.

  • We present the observational study of parsec-scale jets from YSOs reaching lengths of several arc-minutes. The medium-resolution spectroscopic data were obtained between 6000 - $7000{\AA}$ with BOAO long-slit spectrograph. By performing multi-position observation, we investigated the physical variation of the jets and the ambient gas along the whole path of the jets. The flux, electron density, ionization fraction, and electron temperature are discussed with the estimated line ratios between from [OI], [NII], $H{\alpha}$ and [SII] emission lines. This study carried out with more than 8 jets of YSOs including low- to intermediate-mass stars. We also briefly discuss the kinematics of the outflows using spatial and spectroscopic data.

  • We present results of two-color VR photometry of the intermediate polar RXS J1803. The data were aquired using the Korean 1-m telescope located at Mt. Lemmon, USA. Different "high" and "low" luminosity states, similar to other intermediate polars, were discovered. No statistically significant variability of the color index with varying luminosity was detected. The orbital variability was found to be not statistically significant. Spin maxima timings were determined, as well as the photometric ephemeris for the time interval of our observations. The spin period variations, caused by interaction of the accretion structure with the rotating magnetic white dwarf, were also detected. These variations are of complicated character, and their study requires further observations. We determine the color transformation coefficients for our photometric systems, and improve on the secondary photometric standards.
