  • Multilayered structures include lamination by relatively thick plies and thin interlayers. For efficient peridynamic analysis of dynamic fracturing multilayered structures, the interlayer is modeled using ghost peridynamic particles while the ply is formulated via real peridynamics. With the nonlocal ghost interlayer, one may keep the discretization resolution low for the ply. In this study, the characteristics of dynamic wave propagation through the nonlocal ghost interlayer in peridynamic analysis are investigated. It is observed that the interlayer not only binds adjacent plies, but also significantly influences energy transfer between plies, and thereby their deformation and motion. In addition, near a surface or boundary, peridynamic particles do not have a full nonlocal neighborhoods. This causes the effective material properties near the surface to be different from those in the bulk. Surface correction based on neighborhood volumes is employed. The impact of surface correction on wave propagation in multilayered structures is investigated.

  • Magnetoresistance of NiFeCo/Cu/NiFeCo/FeMn uncoupled exchange biased sandwiches has been studied. The magnetoresistance change ratio, ${\Delta}R/R_{s}$ showed 4.1 % at a saturation field as low as 11 Oe in $Si/Ti(50\;{\AA})/NiFeCo(70\;{\AA})/Cu(23\;{\AA})/NiFeCo(70\;{\AA})/FeMn(150\;{\AA})/Cu(50\;{\AA})$ spin valve structure. In this system, the magnetoresistance was affected by interlayer material and thickness. When Ti and Cu were used as the interlayer material in this structure, maximum magnetoresistance change ratio were 0.32 % and 4.1 %, respectively. 6.1 % MR ratio was obtained in $Si/Ti(50\;{\AA})/NiFeCo(70\;{\AA})/Cu(15\;{\AA})/NiFeCo(70\;{\AA})/FeMn(150\;{\AA})/Cu(50\;{\AA})$ spin valve structure. The magnetoresistance change ratio decreased monotonically as the interlayer thickness increased. It was found that the exchange bias field exerted by FeMn layer to the adjacent NiFeCo layer was ~25 Oe, far smaller than that reported in NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn spin valve structure(Dieny et. al., ~400 Oe). The relationship between the film texture and exchange anisotropy ha been examined for spin valve structures with Ti, Cu, or non-buffer layer.

  • The transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding was used to fabricate autogenous joints in a magnesium alloy AZ31 with the aid of a pure Ni interlayer. A $13{\mu}m$ thick pure Ni foil was used in order to form a Mg-Ni eutectic liquid at the joint interface. The interface of reaction and composition profiles were investigated as a function of bonding time using a pressure of 0.16 MPa and a bonding temperature of $515^{\circ}C$. The quality of the joints produced was examined by metallurgical characterization and the joint microstructure developed across the diffusion bonds was related to changes in mechanical properties as a function of the bonding time.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) films with a 5 nm thick Au interlayer were prepared on glass substrates. The effects of the Au interlayer on the gas sensitivity for detecting methanol vapors were investigated at room temperature. The conductivity of the film sensor increased upon exposure to methanol vapor and the sensitivity also increased proportionally with the methanol vapor concentration. In terms of the sensitivity measurements, the ITO film sensor with an Au interlayer shows a higher sensitivity than that of the conventional ITO film sensor. This approach is promising in gaining improvement in the performance of ITO gas sensors used for the detection of methanol vapor at room temperature.

  • Along the few nano sizing dimensions of integrated circuit (IC) devices, acceptable interlayer material for design is inevitable. The interlayer which include dielectric, interconnect, barrier etc. needs to achieve not only electrical properties, but also mechanical properties for endure post manufacture process and prolonging life time. For developing intermetallic dielectric (IMD) the mechanical issues with post manufacturing processes were need to be solved. For analyzing specific structural problem and material properties Raman spectroscopy was performed for various researches in Si semiconductor based materials. As improve of the laser and charge-coupled device (CCD) technology the total effectiveness and reliability was enhanced. For thin film as IMD developed material could be analyzed by Raman spectroscopy, and diverse researches of developing method to analyze thin layer were comprehended. Also In-situ analysis of Raman spectroscopy is introduced for material forming research.

  • This article investigated to polymer-clay nanocomposite, especially in interfacial respect clay structure, its dispersion into polymer matrix, and clay modification is studied. The cationic exchange of surfactants with clay gallery results in preparing organo-clay capable of compatiblizing to monomer or polymer and increasing interlayer adhesion energy due to expansion of interlayer spacing. The orientation of surfactant in clay gallery is affected by chemical structure and charge density of clay, and interlayer spacing and volume is increased with alkyl chain length of surfactant, or charge density of clay. Also, the interaction between clay and polymer in preparing polymer-clay nanocomposite is explained thermodynamically. In the future, the study and development of polymer-clay nanocomposite is paid attention to the interfacial adhesion, clay dispersion within polymer, mechanism of clay intercalation or exfoliation.

  • $\varepsilon$-Caprolactame as organic monomer was intercalated in the interlayer space of montmorillonite and polymerized by polymerization reaction so that the inorganic polymer and organic polymer could be combined each other by chemical bonding. The results of X-ray and IR analysis showed that the polymerization reaction of $\varepsilon$-caprolactame between the interlayer spaces has been performed sucessfully. In order to study polymeric reaction product in detail we have isolated the polymerized material from the interlayer space and analyzed it by X-ray diffractometer and IR-Spectrocopy. The comparison of these results with them of the analyses for thee pure polymer which has been synthesized by polymeric reaction of $\varepsilon$-carolactame without montmorillonite showed that the obtained both polymeric materials are the same compounds.

  • It is well known that monolithic glass has specific coincidence dip allowing transmittance of noise around the critical frequency. Laminated glass, made of a polyvinyle butyral(PVB) interlayer sandwiched by two panes of glass sheet, has long served for the advantage in noise attenuation properties as well as the safety purpose. More research on the improvement of sound insulation performance is needed, considering much of the noise is still transmitted through the glass. As a preliminary study, authors have made several test specimens, varied combinations of glass and interlayer film, to optimize the acoustic performance. Experimental investigation was carried out to study the sound transmission loss of test specimens in the reverberation chamber by using sound intensity method. Several new applications, instead of the existing PVB laminated glass, show better results in sound transmission loss and low temperature have a bad influence on the acoustic performance.

  • The complete joining method for dissimilar press punch materials and its real-time evaluation method is not available at present. Brazing method has been used for joining them, but it is known that the welded joint by the brazing has the lower bonding efficiency and reliability than the diffusion welding. The friction welding with a diffusion mechanism in bonding was applied in this study. This work was carried out to determine the proper friction welding conditions and to analyze mechanical properties of friction welded joints of sintered carbide tool materials (SKNM50 for the blade part of press punch) to alloy steel (SCM440 for the shank part of press punch) using aluminum (A6061 for the interlayer material) as an insert material between the sintered carbide tool materials and the alloy steel. In addition, acoustic emission test was carried out during friction welding to evaluate the weld quality.
