Regeneration of old buildings is one of the most imperative responses to the 21th century issue of sustainable urban architectural environment. In particular, creative circulation of generation which conversion means highlights the conversion as a new design method. In this study, by examining buildings built over the last decade, the mutual relationship between old elements of existing buildings and new elements of newly required functions was analyzed and types of relationships such as 'alien insertion', 'mediate intervention', 'endogenous expansional enveloping', 'contrastive confliction' and 'over-layering' were defined. In addition, design strategies including the paradoxical curio, fore-grounding and unification were derived from each relationship. Finally, according to the relation type and design strategy, this study suggests several features of conversion design; (1) maximization of symbolism using unfamiliarities - emphasizing futuristic or contextual symbol with intentional contrasts by preserving the work or using contemporary addition; (2) time confusion using neutral space - meeting the need by harmonizing and cooperating existing elements and new elements; (3) mutual emphasizing by individualization - revealing differences between old and new for an aesthetical tension; (4) synchronism by constructional combination - making the one unity of different layers; (5) expansion by enveloping - experience of visual reverse and creation of extra space by roofing above building groups. The reconversion should be continuously researched in the future since conversion is a sustainable design method for the future of architecture.

CAD systems are routinely used by designers for creating part geometries. Interfaces to CAE/CAM systems are also commonplace enabling the FEA-based design optimization and the rapid fabrication of the designed part. However, conventional CAD systems have thus far focused on objects with homogeneous interior. Two recent advances--use of heterogeneous objects such as Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) in parts and Layered Manufacturing Technology (LMT)--have brought to the forefront the need for CAD systems to support the creation of geometry as well as the graded material inside. We first describe the need and the components of such a CAD system for heterogeneous objects. A prototype CAD system is then described with one specific example (thermal barrier type FGM, pressure vessel) in order to illustrate the use of the implemented CAD system. The implemented system is manually integrated with FEA tools for optimal design. Our ongoing work involves the automation of the integration with FEA tools.

e-revolution makes a lot of changes in the methodology all over the world. That is, the theory of real time showing helps people to access audio and visual wherever and whenever they are. In the pst computers were considered as only tools which could make us work easily. However, the meaning of computer is changing with e-revolution nowadays. Computers are not just computers as they were; they have done a lot of things which we thought impossible and they will do in the future as well. This new wave encourages people who are teaching the design to use computers whatever they do. For example, instead of using pencil and a drafting board, most people in the design field work with monitors, mouse and plotter. Therefore, most people who are in the design field need to have the ability of computer skills. They have to use computers not only in their class but also in their office. However, if we use computers for visual presenting in the class, it will not be enough to catch the e-revolution. That is, we should work with computers in the creative and conceptual design such as the using of the design information and the applying digital techniques in the early stage of the work. The purpose of this study is to show how to work with computers in the spacial design process especially th using of the DIS(Design Information System) and the applying digital techniques in the early stage of the work.

Ubiquitous technology is currently being introduced to libraries at the fastest speed as compared to other spaces. However, the introduction of ubiquitous technology to the existing analog space is causing problems despite such intelligence of libraries as the design standards for ubiquitous spaces have not been arranged yet. This researcher analyzed and evaluated the characteristics of design from the ubiquitous aspect of the ubiquitous environment-oriented libraries that are still at their initial stage. The subjects for this study were the National Library of Korea, Myongji University Bangmok Library, and Yonsei University Library. The definition and characteristics of the ubiquitous environment libraries were examined through literature review and the standards for design analysis were derived by analyzing previous studies. Case analyses were conducted to evaluate the design elements in the ubiquitous environment libraries based on the field observation, photographing, and interviews with managers. As a result, functionality, safety, cognition and convenience were derived based on the investigation and analysis of previous studies; informativeness, playfulness, security, and simplicity which are the design characteristics were found. As a result of the case studies, while functionality and safety are met in most of the standards for design analysis, universality was very low. Care for minorities is need in a library as it is a space used by many unspecified individuals.

There can be two definitions of modern ideal medical surroundings. One is medical services satisfied patients' with their desire and the other is places suited to remedy realized by rational operation. Particularly, in case of dental service, there is a need for an effective regard of moving lines and there are many rooms for a dental service belonged to a curer and not a curer. So a design has been developed by many concerns. flow do we proffer more familiar and comfortable places to both a curer and not a cuter. Nowadays, the design is making progress to the unprecedented and up-to-date direction. I would suggest a general plan used by a nature of an original art for this design. The design used by a nature between human beings and things is able to induce comforts and intimacies. So to speak, I would like to remove artificial design and keep up organic lines, shapes and forms of a nature like it is. This study grasps the organizational limitation of this design and the visual characteristic of organic forms used by harmonious image of a nature and a new way is applied to limited medical places, a dental service, based on the study. Also, I'm go to examine the meaning and worth of a new design and suggest the direction of it.

The purpose of this study was to analyze City squares in Europe according to Biophilic Design elements to apply domestic Indoor Squares in Mixed-use building for relaxation. This study seeks to present a direction for designing an indoor square that uses the aspects of European city square. The following details consist the purpose of the study. First, Perspective from the Biophilic design and analyzing criteria of Europe city square. Second, European city square is analyzed to establish the criteria to be applied to indoor square. Third, based on European city square analysis, the planning direction for domestic indoor square is suggested. This result of paper proceeds as follows. First, it describes the analysis of the Indoor Squares of the domestic Mixed-use building. The results were derived of the fact that not applying the water elements and Facade greening. Second, In Europe Square, It is accounted for the highest proportion (33%) of the spaciousness. Third, Through a comparative analysis domestic indoor square was derived that the higher the need to improve the spaciousness and botanical motif. It is the ultimate goal of this study based on the analysis of the city square to set the criteria for the biophilic design of the indoor square to present the orientation of the indoor square.

In consumer space, architecture is experiencing the rise of architectural design that reflects the experience of the customer. As a result, the shape and space in architecture have overcome their basic functional aspirations, thus fulfilling the aesthetic desires driven by human sensibility. This has led to overcome the primary internal condition of sales of industrial establishments and made possible its role as a marketing tool through the improvement of the brand image and in charge of indirect sales. This research will be based on the Prada Tokyo Epee Center's architectural process, designed by Herzog De Moron, focusing on the relationship between the space design process and strategy and experimental marketing aiming towards the architect's intention and goal in relation to perceptive communication. This paper will thus look into how experiential marketing strategies, prominent in marketing, are being shown in comsumer spaceas design elements. It will further investigate into how design elements is being used as a tool for product sales and brand image reconstruction. In conclusion, authors discuss importance of experimental marketing tool in the current consumer society and role of contemporary architects who need to consider design that does not only satisfy their customers but further stimulates their desires.

According to change a generation, in modern society the view which looks at the nature the people and the space is changing. As recognition which the environment is the most important factor in our society, there are researches that environment has to preserve and there are methods that the environment is related with the human, therefore, in the space ecology design views that similar to modern society are being shift. Museum of natural environment is public and popular space that it is designed and composed by a method of ecology space design. Hence, on this study, the museum of natural environment is defined public space by ways of characteristics of ecology design and a design characteristic which the museum of natural environment basically has to arrange are examined. Gallery of natural environment is most related with subsidiarity of mutuality, unity of the totality and stablity and will need other factors such as diversity & balance and suitability. Characteristic of museum of natural environment will be understood method for extension of a sustainable and mutual public space based on the this study, and it will become a process that we will have to advance for not only the present day but also the future.

With the change of family type and diversify of life style, residents need various unit plan in quality. A rate of economically productive women has increased, and generally double-income households will continuously increase in the future. So a research is requested to consider the double-income households's satisfaction for a unit plan based on their life characteristics. The purpose of this study is to find out double-income households's lifestyles, and to search and analyze users' needs for spatial composition according to their lifestyles, and then, embody spatial composition of Apartment Unit plans. The findings are as follows. (1) Housing lifestyles of users living in apartment arc categorized into 5 types: pursuing the trend and personality, pursuing the convenience and leisure, pursuing being domestic, making a livelihood and practicality, the type of unspecification. (2) The type of pursing the trend and individuality requests new plan and a shower bath, the type of pursing the convenience and leisure requests facility with home appliances and likes traveling and sports, the type of making a hearth and home wants a talk with their family and discuss some problem, the type of making a livelihood and practicality requests storage space, the type of unspecification wants a comfortable master bedroom zone. Consequently factors of residental space plan are need for double-income households.
