Interference and Throughput in Spectrum Sensing Cognitive Radio Networks using Point Processes

  • Spectrum sensing is vital for secondary unlicensed nodes to coexist and avoid interference with the primary licensed users in cognitive wireless networks. In this paper, we develop models for bounding interference levels from secondary network to the primary nodes within a spectrum sensing framework. Instead of classical stochastic approaches where Poisson point processes are used to model transmitters, we consider a more practical model which takes into account the medium access control regulations and where the secondary Poisson process is judiciously thinned in two phases to avoid interference with the secondary as well as the primary nodes. The resulting process will be a modified version of the Mat$\acute{e}$rn point process. For this model, we obtain bounds for the complementary cumulative distribution function of interference and present simulation results which show the developed analytical bounds are quite tight. Moreover, we use these bounds to find the operation regions of the secondary network such that the interference constraint is satisfied on receiving primary nodes. We then obtain theoretical results on the primary and secondary throughputs and find the throughput limits under the interference constraint.

  • 현재 이동통신3사가 보유한 총 주파수는 390MHz에 이르지만 LTE 데이터 트래픽의 경우 1년 기준으로 약 6배가량 증가하고 있는 상황에서 폭증하는 트래픽을 감당하기 위해서는 좀 더 많은 주파수 확보가 필요하다. 2.1GHz 대역은 주파수 특성, 대역의 연속성 측면에서 이동통신용 주파수로 이용할 가치가 있다. 본 논문에서는 2.1GHz 대역을 LTE-Advanced로 활용하기 위해 인접 지역과의 양립을 위한 국제법규를 분석하였다. 또한, 간섭평가를 실시하고 그 결과 값 도출을 통해 인접 대역과 양립 가능함을 증명하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 위성의 지상국 위치를 선정함에 있어 전파 간섭을 피하고, 사용자의 위성활용도를 극대화하기 위한 지상국 위치 선정 전파 간섭 연구이다. 위성 지상국의 위치 선정을 위해 부지 확보가 용이하고, 평가지표의 평가항목별로 평가가 가능하다고 판단되는 지상국 후보지에 대해 전파 환경을 조사하고, 측정 결과를 제시하였으며, 10명의 전문가의 적합성 판단을 통해 후보지의 적합성에 대해 검토하였다. 향후 다른 후보지들의 측정 결과와 비교를 통해 최적의 지상국 위치를 선정할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한, 위성 지상국을 구축하고 있는 세계적 추세에 맞추어, 우리나라의 위성 지상국 위치 선정을 위한 정량적인 평가기준이 될 수 있다.

Performance of Interference Mitigation with Different Wavelets in Global Positioning Systems

  • In this paper, we apply a discrete wavelet packet transform (DWPT) to reduce the influence of interference in global positioning system (GPS) signals and compare the interference mitigation performance of various wavelets. By applying DWPT to the received signal, we can gradually divide the received signal band into low-pass and high-pass bands. After calculating the average power for the separate bands, we can determine whether there is interference by comparing the value with the given threshold. For a band that includes interference, we can reconstruct the whole band signal using inverse DWPT (IDWPT) after applying a nulling method that sets all of the wavelet coefficients to 0. The reconstructed signals are correlated with the pseudorandom noise (PRN) codes to acquire GPS signals. The performance evaluation is based on the number of satellite signals whose peak ratio (defined as the ratio of the first and second correlation peak values in the acquisition stage) exceeds the threshold. In this paper, we compare and evaluate the performance of 6 wavelets including Haar, Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets, Biorthogonal Splines, and Discrete Meyer.

  • 본 논문에서는 시불변 채널 계수를 가지는 다중 셀 상향링크 네트워크에서 세 가지 종류의 기회적 간섭 관리 기술을 소개한다. 첫째, 각 기지국에서 다른 기지국에게 최소한의 간섭을 발생시키는 사용자 집합을 기회적으로 선택하는 두 가지 기회적 간섭 관리 완화 기술을 제안하고, 자유도 측면에서 성능을 분석한다. 둘째, 각 기지국에서 두 개의 임계값을 기반으로 설계된 스케줄러로 사용자를 기회적으로 선택하는 분산 기회적 스케줄링을 제안하고, 용량 스케일링 측면에서 성능을 분석한다. 마지막으로, 모의실험을 통해 제안하는 기술을 검증한다.

블럭부호변조 기반의 Transmitted Reference 광대역 통신 시스템 (Transmitted Reference UWB Systems Based on Block-Coded Modulation)

  • 광대역 통신을 위한 비동기 (noncoherent) 수신기인 CMSA (codeword matching and signal aggregation) 방식을 이용한 BCM (block coded modulation) 방식은 TR (transmitted reference) 방식보다 에너지 효율적인 방식으로 알려져 있다. 그러나, 프레임간 간섭/심볼간 간섭 (IFI/ISI : interframe interference/inter symbol interference)가 존재하는 채널 환경에서는 신호대 잡음비 (SNR : signal to noise ratio)가 증가하더라도, 수신 신호의 전력이 증가하는 것과 동시에 인접한 코드간의 간섭의 증가로 인하여 비트오율 (BER : bit error rate) 등과 같은 성능향상이 제한적으로 이루어진다. 제안하는 방식은 BCM의 부호 정합 (code matching) 대신에 TR 신호를 기반으로 블록 부호화된 기준틀 (block coded template)을 구성한 후, 수신신호에 상관기 (correlator)를 통과하여 송신신호를 추정하는 방식이다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안하는 방식이 BCM보다 우수한 성능을 확인할 수 있다.

An Interference Avoidance Method Using Two Dimensional Genetic Algorithm for Multicarrier Communication Systems

  • In this article, we suggest a two-dimensional genetic algorithm (GA) method that applies a cognitive radio (CR) decision engine which determines the optimal transmission parameters for multicarrier communication systems. Because a CR is capable of sensing the previous environmental communication information, CR decision engine plays the role of optimizing the individual transmission parameters. In order to obtain the allowable transmission power of multicarrier based CR system demands interference analysis a priori, for the sake of efficient optimization, a two-dimensionalGA structure is proposed in this paper which enhances the computational complexity. Combined with the fitness objective evaluation standard, we focus on two multi-objective optimization methods: The conventional GA applied with the multi-objective fitness approach and the non-dominated sorting GA with Pareto-optimal sorting fronts. After comparing the convergence performance of these algorithms, the transmission power of each subcarrier is proposed as non-interference emission with its optimal values in multicarrier based CR system.

Novel Digital Cancelation Method in Presence of Harmonic Self-Interference

  • In-band full-duplex (IFD) communication has recently attracted a great deal of interest because it potentially provides a two-fold spectral efficiency increase over half-duplex communications. In this paper, we propose a novel digital self-interference cancelation (DSIC) algorithm for an IFD communication system in which two nodes exchange orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. The proposed DSIC algorithm is based on the least-squares estimation of a self-interference (SI) channel with block processing of multiple OFDM symbols, in order to eliminate the fundamental and harmonic components of SI induced through the practical radio frequency devices of an IFD transceiver. In addition, the proposed DSIC algorithm adopts discrete Fourier transform processing of the estimated SI channel to further enhance its cancelation performance. We provide a minimum number of training symbols to estimate the SI channel effectively. The evaluation results show that our proposed DSIC algorithm outperforms a conventional algorithm.

  • In this paper, we present narrowband interference (NBI) cancelling algorithm applied to wideband spread spectrum system. We introduce multi-carrier transmission technique to overcome hardware inplementation difficulty of wideband spreading above 40MHz and to enhance NBI performance. A direct-sequence spread spectrum receiver using both decision-feedback and two sided LMS filters for combating narrowband interference is applied. We show that performance of this receiver outperforms conventional NBI rejection systems in tone jamming, partial band jamming, and impulsive channel through the bit error ratio evaluation. In addition, we propose a new technique to improve the performance of time domain NBI rejection algorithm sensitive to impulsive channel.

Improved Resource Allocation Scheme in LTE Femtocell Systems based on Fractional Frequency Reuse

  • Femtocells provide high quality indoor communications with low transmit power. However, when femtocells are applied in cellular systems, a co-channel interference problem between macrocells and femtocells occurs because femtocells use the same spectrum as do the macrocells. To solve the co-channel interference problem, a previous study suggested a resource allocation scheme in LTE cellular systems using FFR. However, this conventional resource allocation scheme still has interference problems between macrocells and femtocells near the boundary of the sub-areas. In this paper, we define an optimization problem for resource allocation to femtocells and propose a femtocell resource allocation scheme to solve the optimization problem and the interference problems of the conventional scheme. The evaluation of the proposed scheme is conducted by System Level Simulation while varying the simulation environments. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme is superior to the conventional scheme and that it improves the overall performance of cellular systems.
