  • The extraction of the valid measurement region from the interference fringe pattern is a significant step when measuring gear tooth flank form deviation with grazing incidence interferometry, which will affect the measurement accuracy. In order to overcome the drawback of the conventionally used method in which the object image pattern must be captured, an improved segmentation approach is proposed in this paper. The interference fringe patterns feature, which is smoothed by the nonlinear diffusion, would be extracted by the structure tensor first. And then they are incorporated into the vector-valued Chan-Vese model to extract the valid measurement region. This method is verified in a variety of interference fringe patterns, and the segmentation results show its feasibility and accuracy.

  • The joint transform correlator (JTC) has been the best known technique for pattern recognition and identification. This paper proposes a new technique of fringe adjustment by adopting a sinusoidal amplitude-modulated iterative filter convolved with an interference fringe pattern in the joint power spectrum (JPS) domain. The comparison of our new technique and other techniques is presented to show that the newly proposed technique can successfully improve both the correlation peaks and the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). Simulated results of enhanced interference fringes are also presented.

  • An experimental research has been carried out for flow control of the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction utilizing aeroelastic mesoflaps. Various shapes and thicknesses of the mesoflap are tested to achieve different deflections of the flap, and ail the results are compared to the solid-wall reference case without flow-control mechanism. Quantitative variation of skin friction has been measured downstream of the interactions using the laser interferometer skin friction meter, and qualitative skin friction distribution has been obtained by observing the interference fringe pattern on the oil-film surface. A strong spanwise variation in the fringe patterns with a narrow region of separation near the centerline is noticed to form behind the shock structure, which phenomenon is presumed partially related to three-dimensional flow structures associated with both the sidewalls and the bottom test surface. The effect of the shape of the cavity is also observed and it is noticed that the shape of the cavity is not negligible.

  • Moire topography, a simple technique for three-dimensional quantitation, was used to provide interference fringe photographs of the human back with sufficient accuracy to be used for detecting patient with asymmetry due to scoliosis, the disease of cervix and lumbar, muscle dysfunction. Contour lines are a suitable and widely accepted method of describing a three-dimensional surface. In the moire technique, contour lines of an object are produced as interference fringes while the object is illuminated by a spotlight through a special grating. The fringe pattern is produced by the interference of the grating and its shadow on the object. A photograph of a moire pattern on the human back will permit an assessment of the overall body shape and the symmetry of the back. This study uses shadow moire topography. Moire topography provides a non-invasive technique for quantifying the shape of the human body. In the use of moire topography for the Oriental Medicine Diagnosis, the strength of moire lies in the ablility to detect change due to deformity of human body.

  • The main scale of linear encoder greatly effects on the precision of displacement measurement. Especially when needing the long range measurement the length of main scale should be increased accordingly. In this paper we propose a linear encoder that uses laser interference pattern as main scale for long range measurement. The linear encoder is similar to Michelson interferometer excepting that the reference mirror is tilted so as to obtain interference fringe pattern and a grating panel is attached on a quadratic photo diodes. Four kinds of grating having phase difference of 0. $\pi$/4, $\pi$/2, 3$\pi$/4 are arranged on the panel. The experimental results show that signals of quadratic photo diode A, B, {{{{ {-}atop {A } }}}} and {{{{ {- } atop {B } }}}} are cosine wavelike and successive signals have phase difference of $\pi$/4 each other. So the proposed method can achieve improved measurement resolution.

  • The computer generated hologram (CGH) designs and produces digital information for generating 3-D (3-Dimension) image using computer and software instead of optically-sensed hologram of light interference, and it can synthesis a virtual object which is physically not in existence. Since digital hologram includes an amount of data as can be seen at the process of digitization, it is necessary that the data representing digital hologram is reduced for storing, transmission, and processing. As the efforts that are to handle hologram with a type of digital information have been increased, various methods to compress digital hologram called by fringe pattern are groped. Suitable proposal is encoding of hologram. In this paper, we analyzed the properties of CGH using tools of frequency transform, assuming that a generated CGH is a 2D image by introducing DWT that is known as the better tool than DCT for frequency transform. The compression and reconstruction result which was extracted from the wavelet-based codecs illustrates that it has better properties for reconstruction at the maximum 2 times higher compression rate than the Previous researches of Yoshikawa[2] and Thomas[3].

  • We have demonstrated mechanically induced Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI) based on a long-period fiber grating pair. The transmission spectra, the interference fringes, and the fringe spacing of the long-period fiber grating pairs have also been investigated experimently and analytically. The fringe spacings of the fabricated LPG pairs agree well with the theoretical results.

  • Liquid film thickness is measured by $moir\acute{e}$ topography which monitored liquid surface. $Moir\acute{e}$ fringe measurement techniques share the inherent simplicity found in optical interferometric techniques have the advantage of use over a greater range of displacement. $Moir\acute{e}$ fringe are the geometric interference patterns observed when two dense line grating are superposed. Light transmitted through a fixed line grating is deviated by the liquid film surface, producing a distored image of the grating. The $moir\acute{e}$ fringe produced by projection of this optically distored grating onto a second stationary grating permit visualization of the liquid surface and measurement of the liquid film thickness. This study measured the small amplitude of liquid film thickness to the $moir\acute{e}$ fringe pattern produced when spherical metal was dropped glycerin put)1 And the measurement of liquid film thickness flowing down an inclined plate are required to calculate the liquid slope in a position.
