  • In this paper, we studied the properties of a cable insulate capacity between surfaces with the variation of the interfacial breakdown. As a function of silicon oil, the variation of pressure and interfacial roughness were investigated. The insulate trouble of a power cable is out of the interfacial parts, which breakdown the insulate breakdown capacity in a power cable. In this study, the analysis of electric field and the phenomenon of interfacial breakdown were improved by increased interfacial pressure, decreased surface roughness, and oil. And It was shown that interfacial breakdown LSR-XLPE insulators is higher that of EPDM-XLPE.

  • Functionally graded material (FGM) plates can be bonded to the soffit of a beam as a means of retrofitting the RC beam. In such plated beams, tensile forces develop in the bonded plate and these have to be transferred to the original beam via interfacial shear and normal stresses. In this paper, an interfacial stress analysis is presented for simply supported concrete beam bonded with a functionally graded material FGM plate. This new solution is intended for application to beams made of all kinds of materials bonded with a thin plate, while all existing solutions have been developed focusing on the strengthening of reinforced concrete beams, which allowed the omission of certain terms. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behavior of the interface and design of the FGM-RC hybrid structures.

  • In order to determine what influences the interfacial breakdown in EPDM/XLPE laminates, We made the breakdown test ceil and this was pressure controllable breakdown test cell. We make the needle electrode (tip radius: about 10 micrometer) using electrochemical method. We studied the interfacial silicone oil was higher than that with silicone grease. As a function of heat treatment time in a vacuum, interfacial breakdown strength increased much in XLPE/EPDM laminates pasted with silicone grease but increased a little in that with silicone oil.

  • We introduced nanoscale interfacial layers between the PV layer and the cathode in poly (3-hexylthiophene):methanofullerene bulk-heterojunction polymer photovoltaic (PV) cells. The nanoscale double interfacial layers were made of ultrathin poly (oxyethylenetridecylether) surfactant and low-work-function alloy-metal of Al:Li layers. It was found that the nanoscale interfacial layers increase the photovoltaic performance, i.e., increasing short-circuit current density and fill factor with improved device stability. For PV cells with the nanoscale double interfacial layers, an increase in power conversion efficiency of $4.18{\pm}0.24%$ was achieved, compared to that of the control devices ($3.89{\pm}0.08%$) without the double interfacial layers.

  • We have studied the interfacial diffusion of Fe/Cr multilayers using synchrotron x-ray techniques, such as x-ray reflectivity, extended x-ray absorption fine structures (EXAFS), and high-resolution x-ray scattering. The results of x-ray reflectivity indicated that the interfacial roughness of Fe/Cr multilayers increased with the Cr-layer thickness. The Fourier transform (FT) of EXAFS data clearly showed that the Fe atoms dominantly diffused into the stable Cr layers at the Fe/Cr interface. The results of high-resolution x-ray scattering supported the interfacial diffusion of Fe atoms. Out study revealed that the dominantly interfacial diffusion of Fe atoms into the Cr layers effects the interfacial roughness of the Fe/Cr multilayers.

  • Because complex insulation method is used in EHV(extra high voltage) insulation systems, macro Interfaces between two different bulk materials which affect the stability of insulation system exist inevitably. Interface between toughened epoxy and silicone rubber was selected as a interface in EHV insulation systems and tested AC interfacial breakdown properties with variation of many conditions to influence on electrical Properties, such as interfacial pressure, roughness and oil. Specimen was designed to reduce the effect of charge transport from electrode in the process of breakdown and to have the tangential electrical potential with the direction of the interface between epoxy and silicone rubber by using FEM(finite elements method). It could control the interfacial pressure, roughness and viscosity of oil. From the result of this study, it was shown that the interfacial breakdown voltage is improved by increasing interfacial Pressure and oil. In particular, the dielectric strength saturates at certain interracial Pressure level. The decreasing ratio of the interfacial breakdown voltage in non-oiled specimen was increased by the temperature rising, while oiled specimen was not affected by temperature.

  • DC breakdown characteristics and formation of space charge at the interfaces of crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) /ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) laminates were studied. Effects of silicone grease and some chemicals such as crosslinking coagent on the interfacial charge were also studied. Interfacial charge develops at the interface of XLPE/EPDM laminates, which changes depending on heat treatment conditions and types of chemicals coated at the interface. Some chemicals such as maleic anhydride reduce the accumulation of interfacial charge in the XLPE/EPDM laminates. Breakdown strength of EPDM/XLPE laminate through the interface was highest when silicone oil was pasted in the interfaces. Interfacial breakdown strength decreased with the increase of MAH content.

  • 3-D IC integration enables the smallest form factor and highest performance due to the shortest and most plentiful interconnects between chips. Direct metal bonding has several advantages over the solder-based bonding, including lower electrical resistivity, better electromigration resistance and more reduced interconnect RC delay, while high process temperature is one of the major bottlenecks of metal direct bonding because it can negatively influence device reliability and manufacturing yield. We performed quantitative analyses of the interfacial properties of Al-Al bonds with varying process parameters, bonding temperature, bonding time, and bonding environment. A 4-point bending method was used to measure the interfacial adhesion energy. The quantitative interfacial adhesion energy measured by a 4-point bending test shows 1.33, 2.25, and $6.44\;J/m^2$ for 400, 450, and $500^{\circ}C$, respectively, in a $N_2$ atmosphere. Increasing the bonding time from 1 to 4 hrs enhanced the interfacial fracture toughness while the effects of forming gas were negligible, which were correlated to the bonding interface analysis results. XPS depth analysis results on the delaminated interfaces showed that the relative area fraction of aluminum oxide to the pure aluminum phase near the bonding surfaces match well the variations of interfacial adhesion energies with bonding process conditions.
