  • Regulation of cell fate and lung cell differentiation is associated with Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (ARS)-interacting multifunctional protein 2 (AIMP2), which acts as a non-enzymatic component required for the multi-tRNA synthetase complex. In response to DNA damage, a component of AIMP2 separates from the multi-tRNA synthetase complex, binds to p53, and prevents its degradation by MDM2, inducing apoptosis. Additionally, AIMP2 reduces proliferation in TGF-β and Wnt pathways, while enhancing apoptotic signaling induced by tumor necrosis factor-α. Given the crucial role of these pathways in tumorigenesis, AIMP2 is expected to function as a broad-spectrum tumor suppressor. The full-length AIMP2 transcript consists of four exons, with a small section of the pre-mRNA undergoing alternative splicing to produce a variant (AIMP2-DX2) lacking the second exon. AIMP2-DX2 binds to FBP, TRAF2, and p53 similarly to AIMP2, but competes with AIMP2 for binding to these target proteins, thereby impairing its tumor-suppressive activity. AIMP2-DX2 is specifically expressed in a diverse range of cancer cells, including breast cancer, liver cancer, bone cancer, and stomach cancer. There is growing interest in AIMP2-DX2 as a promising biomarker for prognosis and diagnosis, with AIMP2-DX2 inhibition attracting significant interest as a potentially effective therapeutic approach for the treatment of lung, ovarian, prostate, and nasopharyngeal cancers.

  • In electricity industry, the improvement of load factor by flattening of load has been considered to be more important than any other tasks and has received wide concern and interest. Especially while annual peak load had occured early evening in winter during past decades, but we found the trend has changed so that annual peak load occured during the daytime in summer since1981 The useful practicing methods of this load management ale as follows; 1. Inducing of midnight load by thermal storage water heating 2. Seasonal differential rates. 3. Revising the peak load priceing (Time-of -use) It seems hard to expect that load research can be carried out in a short time, and we all have to exert outselves continuously to provide efficient load management method without wasting resources.

  • Objectives : Motivational factor is a unique contributor to the typically poor academic performance of children with ADHD. However, few study has directly intervened learning motivation in children with ADHD. We conducted this study to explore the direct effects of the learning motivation improvement program applied to children with ADHD. Method The program was designed in order to increase an interest-inducing educational intervention, an academic skills integration, a basic learning activity (reading, writing, and math), and children's self-esteem. We conducted the program twice a week (total 10 sessions) and assessed learning motivation, teaming attitude, self-esteem, academic performance, and problem behaviors of participating children. Results : After the program, teachers reported improvement in teaming motivation. In addition, parents notified sisnificant reduction of problem behaviors. Children reported improvement in a few domains of teaming motivation and learning attitude. Conclusion : While loaming motivation is regarded as an important factor in education, there have been few studies considering this issue in both educational and psychiatric fields. The teaming motivation improvement would be needed in both field in order to reduce the deficits in academic performance in children with ADHD.

  • This study is to analyze the concentration of visual perception of the subject through the eye-tracking experiments targeting popular characters and to investigate it is effective to highlight which part of the character in inducing consumers' interest and curiosity. As a result of the study, the subjects paid more attention to the face than the character's body, and also noted a little attention to auxiliary elements such as pants, tees, shoes, and whiskers. These results mean there is clearly different factor in which the subject's gaze on the character frequently stays and does for a long time. Therefore, the designers should recognize the differences of the concentration of visual perception by character components as a differentiating factor to feel the emotional satisfaction such as the user's interest, empathy, and immersion in the character and actively reflect it when developing the character design. In addition, there was a difference in the visual perception concentration of each of the auxiliary elements, and if careful research is done on whether the influence factors are also due to individual characteristics or another influential factors, it will be a wider study on character design.

  • Tumor necrosis facto-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a recently identified member of the tumor necrosis factor cytokine superfamily. TRAIL has been shown to induce apoptosis in a number of tumor cells whereas cells from most of normal tissues are highly resistant to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. These observations have raised considerable interest in the use of TRAIL in tumor therapy. In this study we report the biodistribution fates and serum expression pattern of plasmid DNA encoding TRAIL (pTRAIL) delivered in erythrocyte ghosts (EG). pTRAIL was loaded into EG by electroportion in a hypotonic medium The mRNA expression of pTRAIL was prolonged following delivery in EG-encapsulated forms. EG containing pTRAIL showed significant levels of mRNA expression in the blood over 9 days. The organ expression patterns of pTRAIL delivered via EG, however, did not significantly differ from those of naked pTRAIL, indicating that the expression-enhancing effect of EG containing pTRAIL was localized to the blood. These results suggest that pTRAIL-loaded EG might be of potential use in the treatment of hematological diseases such as TRAIL-sensitive leukemia.

  • This study was intended to investigate recognition of the general public on water pollution and nonpoint pollution, and to promote participation of the common people in prevention and management of nonpoint pollution by investigating the necessity and participation in the education for reducing the nonpoint pollution. To this end, this study conducted questionnaire on 1,000 male and female adults over 20 years of age nationwide who are registered in Onpanel. The questionnaire was comprised of recognition on water pollution, preventive activity for nonpoint pollution, countermeasures for preventing nonpoint pollution, necessity of national education for reducing the nonpoint pollution, recognition of promotion and campaign participation, and revitalization of organization for reducing the nonpoint pollution. As a result of the questionnaire investigation, interest in water pollution of respondents was high, and specially, interest in the nonpoint pollution was higher when age, academic level, and income were higher that effectiveness of promotion and education on the source of nonpoint pollution is expected to be increased. Respondents recognized the effect of education on reducing the nonpoint pollution positively when they had higher interest, information, education and experience related to the reduction activity of nonpoint pollution. Therefore, formation of sympathy of the public is positively necessary for the nonpoint pollution management, and provision of civil activity program that increases information on the nonpoint pollution, education, and participation in reduction activity and easy promotion with high information communicability should be conducted continuously.

  • 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is commonly used for the therapy of colon cancer; however, acquired resistance to 5-FU is a critical barrier to successful treatment and the primary cause of chemotherapy failure. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a process whereby cells undergo alterations in morphology and molecular characteristics promoting tumor progression and metastasis. Accumulating evidence shows that transition from epithelial to mesenchymal phenotype in cancer cells is associated with their resistance to chemotherapy. However, it is still poorly understood whether EMT is involved in acquired resistance to 5-FU. In this study, we developed an in vitro cell model, 5-FU-resistant HT-29 colon cancer cells, and characterized the differences in cellular morphology and molecular alterations between parental and resistant cells. In accord with mesenchymal-like morphology of 5-FU-resistant HT-29 cells, the expression of the mesenchymal marker fibronectin was significantly increased in these cells in comparision with that in the parental cells. Of interest, we also found a marked increase in the expression of EMT-inducing transcription factors Twist, Zeb1, and Zeb2. Finally, 5-FU-resistant cells showed enhanced migration in comparison with parental HT-29. Taken together, these results indicate that EMT could be associated with 5-FU resistance acquired by HT-29 cells. A specific role of each transcription factor found in this study will require further investigation.

  • With the increased interest on quiescent place for residential place, the noise generation from facilities needs to be minimized. One important noise source include sounds from operation of elevators. The elevator operates between floors and generates significantly annoying sounds to the nearby living spaces. It is recognized as the significant contributor inducing noise annoyance to residents. Elevator is supported to the building structure at several locations for movements between floors. In this study, the vibration reduction by use of polymer concrete on the support location was demonstrated. By measuring and comparing the vibration generation when supported on cement and polymer concrete, the noise reduction performance was evaluated. The polymer concrete was made in the form of being inserted into the wall that imitates the hoistway. The impact vibration was induced to the bracket and vibration transfer magnitude was measured. The damping ratio was evaluated through normalization and curve fitting of transient response, and comparison was performed for each resin mixing ratio. By use of polymer concrete, it was possible to reduce the vibration generation in an effect manner without sacrifice on the structural rigidity.
