  • The sodium (Na) and moisture ($H_2O$) gettering phenomena were measured and analyzed in PSG/$SiO_2$ passivated Al-1%Si thin film interconnections. PSG/$SiO_2$ passivation and Al-1%Si thin films were deposited by using APCVD (atmosphere pressure chemical vapor deposition) and DC magnetron sputter techniques, respectively. SIMS (secondary ion mass spectrometry) depth profiling analysis was used to determine the distribution of sodium and moisture throughout the PSG/$SiO_2$ passivated Al-1%Si thin film interconnections. Both sodium and moisture peaks were observed strongly at the interfaces between layers rather than within the Al-1%Si thin film interconnections. Sodium peaks were observed at the interface between PSG and $SiO_2$ passivations, while moisture peaks were not observed.

  • Recent necessities of research have emerged about soft interconnection technologies for stable electric connections in flexible electronics. Mechanical failure in conventional metal solder interconnection can be solved as soft interconnections based on a small elastic modulus and a thin thickness. To enable stable electric connection while improving mechanical properties, highly conductive materials be thinned or mixed with a material that has a small elastic modulus. Representative soft interconnection technologies such as thin-film metallization, flexible conductive adhesives, and liquid metal interconnections are presented in this paper, and be focused on mechanical/electric properties improving strategies and their applications.

  • In this paper a space search technique is used to detect and locate the faults of the circuit interconnections. The circuit interconnections are represented by the tree structure and the tree space is searched to detect and locate the open faults of the circuit interconnections. The breadth search is used to detect the open faults and reduce the space size. The depth search is used to locate the open faults.

  • Semiconductor testing area challenges many testing issues due to the minimization and ultra high performance of current semiconductors. Among these issues, signal integrity test on interconnections must be solved for highly integrated circuits like SoC. In this paper, we propose an effective pattern application method for signal integrity test on interconnects. Proposed method can be applied by using boundary scan architecture and very efficient test can be preceded with pretty short test time.

  • In this paper, a simple scheme of optical interconnections between M input and N output terminals using mode speckle patterns generated in the mulitmode optical fiber is described. It is shown that fully parallel nonblocking interconnections are accomplished by using properly generated mode speckle patterns as destination codes and dectecting the generated mode speckle patterns separately using M multiplexed Vander Lugt matched filters at each output terminal. The orthogonality condition of mode speckle patterns is investigated by either changing the launching angles or rotating the polarization direction of the beam. Preliminary experiments by use of a 4$\times$4 graded refractive-index multimode fiber coupler whose core diameter was 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were performed to show the feasibility of our scheme.

  • This paper proposes a method to find a tree with the maximum number of terminals that can be connected by a given length when numerous terminals distributed in a cluster form are given to the Euclidean plane R2 with several constraints. First constraint is that a given terminal is distributed in a cluster form, second is that a given length cannot connect all terminals in the tree, and third is that there is no curved connection between each terminal. This paper proposes a method to establish more efficient interconnections within terminals distributed in a cluster form by improving a randomly distributed memetic genetic algorithm. The construction of interconnections has been extensively used in design-related fields, from networking to architecture. Additionally, in real life, the construction of interconnections is mostly distributed in the form of clusters. Therefore, the heuristic algorithm proposed in this paper can be effectively utilized in real life and is expected to provide various cost savings.

  • A decentralized adaptive control method is proposed for large-scale systems with unknown time-delayed nonlinear interconnections unmatched in control inputs. It is assumed that the time-delayed interaction terms are bounded by unknown nonlinear bounding functions. The nonlinear bounding functions and uncertain nonlinear functions of large-scale systems are compensated by the function approximation technique using neural networks. The dynamic surface control method is extended to design the proposed memoryless local controller for each subsystem of uncertain nonlinear large-scale time delay systems. Therefore, although the interconnected systems consist of a large number of subsystems, the proposed controller can be designed simply. We prove that all the signals in the total closed-loop system are semiglobally uniformly bounded and the control errors converge to an adjustable neighborhood of the origin. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, a simple scheme of two-stage free-space photonic swiching system for nonblocking optical interconnections has been investigated using holgorams. The multistage system requires a smaller number of interconnections for a given number of inpuut-output nonblocking ports than the single stage system does. Here hologram elements were used to change interconnection beam paths. In order to increase the idffraction efficiency of the hologram elements in photographic plates, a bleaching technique was used, which converts the amplitude hologram to the phase hologram. To show sthe feasibility of our optical interconnection system, it was implemented using the bleached hologram arrays and an LCTV spatial light modulator, and the sytem as a photonic switching system was demonstrated.
