A Study on Relationship between Radiologists' Job Satisfaction and Intention of Separation (방사선사의 직무만족도와 이직의도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relations between the job satisfaction and separation intent of radiologists from secondary medical institutes, providing basic information needed to earlier prevent radiologists' separation, improve their quality and effectively manage them. 1. The subjects' job satisfaction was 2.32 points in mean score, which was below the average. 2. Concerning difference in job satisfaction among the subjects in accordance with their demographic characteristics, it was found that radiologists are significantly different among them in job satisfaction according to their age and position. 3. The surveyed radiologists' intent of separation was 2.89 points in mean score, which was not significantly high. 4. Concerning difference in the intent of separation among the participants in accordance with their demographic characteristics, it was found that radiologists are significantly different among them in the intent of separation according to their age, marital status, position and average monthly income. 5. There were significant correlations between the subjects' job satisfaction and intent of separation. In other words, the higher radiologists are in job satisfaction, the lower they are in the intent of separation.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relations between the job stress of radiologists, who are serving at secondary medical institutions, and their intent of separation, providing basic information necessary to earlier prevent the separation, improve the quality of radiologists and ensure a more effective personnel management of the professionals. For the purpose, this researcher conducted a structured questionnaire survey of 221 radiologists from Nov 1 to 30, 2010 who were serving at secondary medical institutions located in Busan. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. 1) The surveyed radiologists were scored 2.82 points in average in terms of job stress. This indicates that they are suffering from job stress higher than moderate. 2) The subjects were significantly different from each other in job stress according to their age, total service period, department where they were serving, satisfaction with their hospital and satisfaction with the foresaid department. 3) The subjects were scored 2.59 points in average in terms of the intent of separation. This indicates that the surveyed radiologists are not so willing to change their job. 4) Those radiologists were significantly different from each other in the intent of separation according to their age, marital status, educational background, average monthly income, total service period, the period of service at a department where they belonged now, position, satisfaction with their hospital and satisfaction with the foresaid department. 5) There were significant correlations between the subjects' job stress and intent of separation.

Determinants of Intent to Leave among Physicians Working at General Hospitals After the Separation Program of Prescribing and Dispensing (의약분업 이후 종합병원 의사들의 이직의도 결정요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of intent to leave among hospital physicians. A causal model of intent to leave among hospital physicians was constructed based on the exchange theory. The sample of this study consisted of 185 physicians from 8 general hospitals located in Seoul, Taegu, Kyunggi-province, and Kyungsangnam-province in Korea. Data were collected with self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using LISREL. The results of this study indicate that the following variables, listed in order of size, have significant negative effects on intent to leave among hospital physicians; job satisfaction, organizational commitment, task variety, promotional chances, task significance, and pay. Sex (female=0, male=1) was found to have significant positive effects on the intent to leave among hospital physicians. The results imply that hospital administrators should make an effort to improve job satisfaction and organizational commitment which are the key determinants of intent to leave among hospital physicians.

On Propagation of Love waves in dry sandy medium sandwiched between fiber-reinforced layer and prestressed porous half-space

  • The intent of this paper is to investigate the propagation of Love waves in a dry sandy medium sandwiched between fiber-reinforced layer and prestressed porous half-space. Separate displacement components have been deduced in order to characterize the dynamics of individual materials. Using suitable boundary conditions, the frequency equation has been derived by means of separation of variables which reveals the significant role of reinforcement parameters, sandiness, thickness of layers, porosity and prestress on the wave propagation. The phase velocity of the Love wave has been discussed in accordance with its typical cases. In both cases when fiber-reinforced and dry sandy media are absent, the derived equation of Love type wave coincides with the classical Love wave equation. Numerical computations have been performed in order to graphically illustrate the dependencies of different parameters on phase velocity of Love waves. It is observed that the phase velocity decreases with the increase of parameters pertaining to reinforcement and prestress. The results have certain potential applications in earthquake seismology and civil engineering.

Forensic STR Analysis of Mixed Chimerism after Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation

  • Multiplex PCR-based short tandem repeat (STR) analysis is considered as a good tool for monitoring bone marrow engraftment after sex-mismatched allogeneic transplantation and provides a sensitive and accurate assessment of the contribution of both donor and/or recipient cells in post-transplantation specimens. Forensic STR analysis and quantitative real time PCR are used to determine the proportion of donor versus recipient each contained within the total DNA. The STR markers were co-amplified in a single reaction by using commercial $PowerPlex^{(R)}$ 16 system and $AmpFISTR^{(R)}$ $Identifiler^{(R)}$ / $Yfiler^{(R)}$ PCR amplification kits. Separation of the PCR products and fluorescence detection were performed by ABI $PRIS^{(R)}$ 3100 Genetic Analyzer with capillary electrophoresis. The $GeneMapper^{TM}$ ID software were used for size calling and analysis of STR profiles. Extracted DNA was quantified by the $Quantifiler^{TM}$ Human DNA / Y Human Male DNA Quantification Kit The intent of this study was to analyze the ratio of donor versus recipient cells in the post-transplant peripheral blood, spleen, lung and kidney specimens. Specimens were taken from the traffic accident male victim who had been engrafted from bone marrow female donor. Blood and spleen specimens displayed female donor DNA profile. Kidney specimen showed male recipient DNA profile. Interestingly, lung tissue showed mixed profiles. The findings of this study indicate that the forensic STR analysis using fluorescence labeling PCR combined with capillary electrophoresis is quick and reliable enough to assess the ratio of donor versus recipient cells and to monitor the mixed chimeric patterns.

Method development and validation of spectrophotometric and RP-HPLC methods for simultaneous estimation of spironolactone and furosemide in bulk and combined tablet dosage forms

  • The intent of the present work was to develop a simple, sensitive, accurate, precise, rapid and economical UV- spectrophotometric and reverse phase high pressure liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous estimation of Spironolactone and Furosemide in bulk and combined tablet dosage forms. UV-Spectrophotometry was carried out by simultaneous equation method using 0.02 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer pH 3.5: Acetonitrile (50:50) v/v as a solvent. The linearity range was 2-14 ㎍ mL-1 for Spironolactone and Furosemide with a correlation coefficient > 0.99. The chromatographic separation was achieved on 250 mm × 4.6 mm, hypersil BDS C18 column with particle size 5 ㎛, by using an isocratic mixture of 0.02 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer pH 3.5: Acetonitrile: tert butyl methyl ether (49:50:1) v/v/v as a solvent at a flow rate of 1 mL min-1 and UV detection was carried out at 254 nm. The retention time were observed to be 3.666 and 6.661 minutes for Furosemide and Spironolactone respectively. The two developed methods were validated according to the ICH guidelines for accuracy, precision, linearity, LOD, LOQ and were found to be within the limits. It can be concluded that these two methods could be successfully used for the simultaneous estimation of Spironolactone and Furosemide in bulk and combined tablet dosage forms.

  • A nuclear fusion fuel cycle plant is composed of various subsystems such as a hydrogen isotope storage and delivery system, a tokamak exhaust processing system, and a hydrogen isotope separation system. Korea shares in the construction of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor fuel cycle plant with the EU, Japan and US, and is responsible for the development and supply of the storage and delivery system. We thus present details on the hydrogen isotope process safety. The main safety analysis procedure is to use a hazard and operability study. Nine segments were studied how the plant might deviate from its design purpose. We present a detailed description of the process, examine every part of it to determine how deviations from the design intent can occur and decide whether these deviations can give rise to hazards. We determine possible causes and note protective systems, evaluate the consequences of the deviation, and recommend actions to achieve our safety goal.
