Stress Intensity Factors of a Combined Mode (I/III) Crack in a Variable Thickness Plate -CT Type- (두께가 변화하는 부재 내의 혼합모드 (I/III)균열의 응력확대계수 -CT형-)

  • Variable thickness plates are commonly encountered in the majority of mechanical/structural components of industrial applications. And, as a result of the unsymmetry of the structure or the load and the anisoptropy of the materials, the cracks in engineering structures are generally subjected to combined stresses. In spite of considerable practical interest, however, a few fracture mechanics study on combined mode crack in a variable thickness plate have carried out. In this respect, combined mode I/III stress intensity factors $K_I$ and $K_III$ at the crack tip for a variable thickness plate were obtained by 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Variable thickness plates containing a central slant crack were chosen. The parameters used in this study were dimensionless crack length $\lamda$, crack slant angle $\alpha$, thickness ratio $\beta$ and width ratio $\omega$. Stress intensity factors were calculated by crack opening displacement(COD) and crack tearing displacement(CTD) method.

  • A method is proposed to obtain the stress intensity factors of multiple cracks lying on many straight llnes in an infinite isotropic plate. In this mehtod, analytical solutions for collinear multiple cracks subject to surface point forces are obrained and used as Green functions. For the multiple cracks lying onmany straight lines, the equivalent crack surface tractions are obtained by using the alternating method and the stress intensity factors are calculated. By using the proposed method several useful problems are solved and discussed.

  • To predict vibrational energy density and intensity of complex structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges, Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) programs for the plate, beam and some coupled structural elements are developed at present. The vibration energy density and intensity of foreign vehicle is predicted successfully with FE full model of 60,000 DOF using the developed PFFEM program.

  • We have all heard sounds that did not sound "right" while riding in an automobile. Objectionable sounds are difficult to find and understand because the sound field is complex and dynamic in the near field of an automobile. Many different noise sources and transmission paths must be understood before an engineering change can be recommended. This paper reviews the fundamental characterization of sound and chscusses the Sound Intensity measurement technique. Sound intensity measurements locate sources and sinks of acoustic energy. Used with narrowband analysis equipment, acoustic noise sources can be identified. Sound intensity measurements are made -in-situ and do not require specmi anechoic facilities. The measurement results in a vector representation of the near field sound field and can discriminate between multiple sound sources.d sources.

  • Effects of light intensity on the steady-state fluorescence quenching kinetics are examined for general cases where the bimolecular quenching can occur via long-range energy transfer processes and the potential of mean force between the energy donor and acceptor molecules is not negligible. Approximate analytic expressions are derived for the steady-state quenching rate constant and for the ratio of the steady-state intensity of unquenched to quenched fluorescence. The analytic results are compared with the exact results obtained from numerical analysis and the results of conventional theories.

  • Absorption and fluorescence spectra are reported for four different 1 : 3 $Dy^{3+}$ : ligand systems in aqueous solution under mild alkaline pH conditions. The ligands included in this study are oxidiacetate, dipicolinate, iminodiacetate and methyliminodiacetate. The oscillator strengths for the 4f→4f multiplet-to-multiplet transitions are empirically determined from the absorption spectra and the intensity parameters ${\Omega}_{\lambda}$}(${\lambda}$ = 2, 4, 6) for the systems are also obtained by applying the Judd-Ofelt theorem to the observed oscillator strengths. The values of the intensity parameters for the systems are compared and discussed in terms of ligand structural properties to investigate how the intensity parameters can response to the minor changes in the ligand environment. In addition, the relative oscillator strengths for fluorescence are evaluated and compared to the results obtained from absorption spectra.

Generating a True Color Image with Data from Scanning White-Light Interferometry by Using a Fourier Transform

  • In this paper we propose a method to generate a true color image in scanning white-light interferometry (SWLI). Previously, a true color image was obtained by using a color camera, or an RGB multichannel light source. Here we focused on acquiring a true color image without any hardware changes in basic SWLI, in which a monochrome camera is utilized. A Fourier transform method was used to obtain the spectral intensity distributions of the light reflected from the sample. RGB filtering was applied to the intensity distributions, to determine RGB values from the spectral intensity. Through color corrections, a true color image was generated from the RGB values. The image generated by the proposed method was verified on the basis of the RGB distance and peak signal-to-noise ratio analysis for its effectiveness.

  • A criterion and a method for solving a problem on the prevention of mine working fracture under the action of tectonic and gravitational forces are offered. Based on minimal criterion, theoretical analysis of the definition of the optimal shape of working in the rock mass weakened by arbitrarily located rectilinear cracks was carried out. A closed system of algebraic equations allowing to minimize the stress state and stress intensity factors depending on mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the rock, is constructed. The relation between the shape of the working and the stress intensity factors and also location and sizes of the cracks is obtained. The found optimal shape of working increases load-bearing capacity of the rock.

Scenario Usefulness and Avatar Realism in an Augmented Reality-based Classroom Simulation for Preservice Teacher Training

  • This study aimed to examine an augmented reality-based teaching simulation in a mobile application. We examined how AR-enabled interactions affect users' perceived scenario usefulness and avatar realism. The participants were forty-six undergraduate students. We randomly grouped them into two conditions: AR and Non-interactive video groups with equal sample sizes. This study employed an experimental design approach with a one-way multivariate analysis of variance with repeated measures. The independent variable is the presence/absence of AR interaction with a mobile application. The dependent variables were avatar realism and scenario usefulness. The measures explored how the student avatar's emotional intensity in a scenario influences user perception. The results showed that participants in the AR-interaction group perceived avatar realism significantly higher than those in the non-interactive video group. Also, participants perceived the high emotional intensity scenario (aggression toward peers) to be significantly higher usefulness than the low emotional intensity scenario (classroom disruption).

Short Crack Analysis by Fatigue Crack Opening Behavior (피로균열개구거동을 이용한 짧은균열의 거동 분석)

  • The characteristics of fatigue crack growth subject to out-of-plane bending fatigue are studied in terms of crack opening behavior by using pre-cracked smooth specimens. Crack opening stress is measured by an elastic compliance method which may precisely and continuously provide many date using strain gages during experiment. The results of the short crack and the long crack arranged by crack closure concept show that the effective stress gange ratio of short crack is grester than that of long crack, and ano- malous growth behavior of short crack may be elucidated by the variation of crack opening stress. When the variation of fatigue crack growth rate is arranged versus effective stress intensity factor range. Iinear relation is held also for the short crack. It shows that growth behavior of short crack can be quantitatively represent- ed by the fracture mechanics parameter using effective stress intensity factor range.
