Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of reciprocating flexible manipulators

  • Simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of a reciprocating flexible manipulator is investigated in this paper. The flexible manipulator is driven by a multifunctional active strut with fuzzy logic controllers. The multifunctional active strut is a combination of a motor assembly and a piezoelectric stack actuator to simultaneously provide precision positioning and wide frequency bandwidth vibration suppression capabilities. First, the multifunctional active strut and the flexible manipulator are introduced, and their dynamic models are derived. A control strategy is then proposed, which includes a position controller and a vibration controller to achieve simultaneous precision positioning and vibration suppression of the flexible manipulator. Next, fuzzy logic control approach is presented to design a fuzzy logic position controller and a fuzzy logic vibration controller. Finally, experiments are conducted for the fuzzy logic controllers and the experimental results are compared with those from a PID control scheme consisting of a PID position controller and a PID vibration control. The comparison indicates that the fuzzy logic controller can easily handle the non-linearity in the strut and provide higher position accuracy and better vibration reduction with less control power consumption.

  • ER clutch is a device using electro-rheological fluid which is one of so called intelligent materials. Power transmission behavior of an ER clutch can be controlled by electrical field applied tb the fluid. In this work, a new type of servomechanism is developed with two ER clutchs, driven by two electrical motors rotating in reverse directions. The concentric cylinder type ER clutch is operated by PID control. The system shows good angular position control characteristics with respect to sinusoidal and square inputs.

  • In this paper, we analyze the effects of scaling factors on the performance of a fuzzy logic controller(FLC). The quantitative relation between input and output variables of FLC is obtained by using a qualsi-linear fuzzy model, and an approximate transfer function of FLC is dervied from the comparison of it with the conventional PID controller. Then we analyze in detail the effects of scaling factor using this approximate transfer function and root locus method. Also we suggest an on-line tuning method for scaling factors which employs an sample performance function and a variable reference for tuning index.

  • This thesis describes the active cruise control which is a part of AVHS(Advanced Vehicle and Highway System) in the ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems). The active cruise control is a system which recognizes some obstructions and vehicles in front, drives in safe speed and puts on the brake in dangerous situations as the driver simply turns on the switch without stepping on the accelerator and brake. PID controller is used in the speed-control by linearizing the longitudinal model of the vehicle, obstacle detecting algorithm which makes use of the laser scanner is proposed to recognize the situation in front and the system's performance is tested.

  • In this paper, we design the speed controller with high accuracy of an induction motor by the Fuzzy algorithms, which recently is invoking the remarkable interest. In order to reduce the steady state errors and the reaching times, the adjustment techniques of a series of optimal scaling factors are presented. Comparing with conventional PID control, the usefulness of proposed Fuzzy control will be proved by the simulations.

  • Multivariable control system exist widely in many types of systems such as chemical processes, biomedical processes, and the main steam temperature control system of the thermal power plant. Up to the present time, Pill Controllers have been used to operate these systems. However, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal PID gain with no experience, because of the interaction between loops and gain of the Pill controller has to be manually tuned by trial and error. This paper suggests a tuning method of the Pill Controller for the multivariable power plant using an immune algorithm, through computer simulation. Tuning results by immune algorithms based neural network are compared with the results of genetic algorithm.

  • Since a gas turbine is made use of generating electricity for peak time, it is a very important to operate a peak time load with safety. The main components of a gas turbine are the compressor, the combustion chamber and the turbine. So, there also must be modeled a component of gas turbines for the control with safety but it is not easy. In this paper we acquire a transfer function based on the operations data of Gun-san gas turbine and study to apply Neural-Network 2-DOF PID controler to control loop of gas turbine to reduce phenomena caused by integral and derivative actions through simulation. We obtained satisfactory results to disturbances of subcontrol loop such as, fuel flow, air flow, turbine extraction temperature.

Gain Tuning of a Fuzzy Logic Controller Superior to PD Controllers in Motor Position Control

  • Although the fuzzy logic controller is superior to the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller in motor control, the gain tuning of the fuzzy logic controller is more complicated than that of the PID controller. Using mathematical analysis of the proportional derivative (PD) and fuzzy logic controller, this study proposed a design method of a fuzzy logic controller that has the same characteristics as the PD controller in the beginning. Then a design method of a fuzzy logic controller was proposed that has superior performance to the PD controller. This fuzzy logic controller was designed by changing the envelope of the input of the of the fuzzy logic controller to nonlinear, because the fuzzy logic controller has more degree of freedom to select the control gain than the PD controller. By designing the fuzzy logic controller using the proposed method, it simplified the design of fuzzy logic controller, and it simplified the comparison of these two controllers.

  • In this paper, neural networks predictive PID (NNPPID) control system is proposed to reduce the vibration of structure. NNPPID control system is made up predictor, controller, and self-tuner to yield the optimal parameters of controller. The neural networks predictor forecasts the future outputs based on present input and output of structure. The controller is PID type whose parameters are yielded by neural networks self tuning algorithm. Computer simulations show displacements of multi-story structures applied to NNPPID system about environmental load-wind forces and earthquakes.

  • Design and experimental results of yaw rate controller is described for electricallydriven four wheel vehicle without steering mechanism. Yaw rate controller has been known to be necessary to cope with nonlinear char-acteristics of the wheel/road conditions with respect to different road condition and steering angle. For an effective yaw rate control, a fuzzy PID gain scheduler is considered with changing control parameters. In order to apply proposed algorithm to the system a downsized four wheel drive electrically driven vehicle without steering mechanism was manufactured. With these techniques the proposed yaw rate controller is shown by experiment results to be obtained suficient performance in the whole steering regions.
