  • We present the Yonsei Evolutionary Population Synthesis (YEPS) models for spectroscopic and photometric evolutions of simple and composite stellar populations. The models are based on the most up-to-date Yonsei-Yale stellar evolutionary tracks and BaSel 3.1 flux libraries, and provide integrated spectroscopic quantities of Lick/IDS system including high-order Balmer absorption-lines. Special care has been taken to incorporate the systematic variation of horizontal branch (HB) morphology as functions of metallicity, age, alpha-element mixture, and helium abundance of simple stellar populations. Our models for normal-helium stellar populations indicate that the realistic modeling of HB and alpha-element brings about 5 Gyr and 0.1 dex differences in age and metallicity estimations, respectively, compared to those without these effects. The HB effect does not depend on the specific choice of stellar libraries and alpha-element enhancements, and this effect is non-negligible even in the metal sensitive absorption indices, such as Mg2 and Mg b. Comparison of the models to observations reveals that the HB and alpha-element effects are critical in understanding otherwise inexplicable phenomena found in globular cluster systems in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, including the observed bimodality of the line strengths of globular clusters in massive galaxies. In addition, we found that helium-enhanced stellar populations, which are the major sources of extreme HB stars, bring about increased FUV, NUV fluxes, and thus the model colors of those filters become extremely blue. Age dating based on the YEPS model with normal-helium stellar populations reveals that the evidence for 'downsizing' of elliptical galaxies is found not only in the local field but also in Coma cluster, and that the mean age of elliptical galaxies in Coma cluster is about 1.4 Gyr younger than the mean age of those in the local field. We also find that our models with helium-enhanced subpopulations can naturally reproduce the strong UV-upturns observed in giant elliptical galaxies assuming an age similar to that of old GCs in the Milky Way.

  • The purpose of this study is to contribute to research on dementia and policy making by reviewing research trends of dementia for 15 years and it was collected from 12,588 dementia - related research data for 15 years at Google 's scalar site. The results of this study confirm that the research on dementia, one of the most common geriatric diseases, is continuously increasing. Second, research on dementia is increasing due to social influences such as government support. Third, we suggested that dementia is changing from a viewpoint of diseases to be managed at the facility and treatment of severe dementia patients to a paradigm from the viewpoint of management of mild patients and community participation. Fourth, dementia seems to be shifting from a serious and negative awareness to a social atmosphere that is accepted as a slow but manageable disease. This is changing to a dementia-friendly social environment, which is making a very positive environmental change. This study contributes to the field research by presenting the trend of domestic research on dementia.

  • The purpose of this study was to search stigma experiences of family members who take care of their mental illness patients. Participants consist of three parents, one child, one brother of mental illness patient. The period to collect data was from June to October 2010. We collected the data through depth interview with participants and observance of them. The data was analyzed using phenomenal analysis suggested by Giorgi. As a result, meaningful technologies abstracted from original data were 217, and based on these we induced 26 themes by grouping them with more abstract and integrated language and seven central meanings were induced herein again. Seven central meanings are about stigma of family members of mental illness patients and they are as follows: 'Improper dealing, loss of relationship with surrounding persons, oneself cannot be revealed, conflict with others, unbearable sympathy, incapacity of oneself, buck-passing of oneself'. This study could be a scientific base data to the development of efficient nursing intervention and to understand the pains of mental illness patients and their family members who inevitably have to be separated from the society by recognizing the meaning of stigma to them.

  • To evaluate the current practices of the tube feeding and the status of tube feeding patient 76 adult in-patients at 6 hospitals located in Seoul and Chung-buk province were examined through reviewing patient charts observing patients and interviewing patients nurses dietitians patients' family or care-givers. The results were as follows : 1) An average age of the patients was 54.5 years with 41% over 60 years old. Patients with decreased mental status dysphagia esophageal obstruction and respiratory problem were fed by tubes. 2) The range of duration of tube feeding is between 4 days and 6 years. Most patients were received formula through nasogastric tube(89.5%) while 7.9% of gastrostomy and 2.6% of jejunostomy. Administration method for formula were bolus feeding regardless of the route of formula delivery. 3) Mean total calories received for men were 1590 kcal and 1450 kcal for female. Mean volume per meal was 282m, l and mean frequency of feeding was 5.68 while mean feeding interval 3$\frac{1}{4}$ hours and mean rate of infusion 68.4ml/min. All patients received hospital-blenderi-zed formula as the major source of nutrition. Home-blenderized formula and commercial formula as a supplement were used 35%, 13.2% respectively. 4) Thirty-eight percent of patients was hypoalbuminemia and 61% was at the moderate level of deficiency in hemoglobin. 5) Complications associated with tube feeding were diarrhea (22.4%) constipation(21.1%) vomiting(11.8%) and so on. 6) Serum albumin levels of patients who have complications associated with tube feeding were significantly lower than those of patients without complications In planning a tube feeding regimen the type of a formula must be integrated with both a delivery system and a protocol for administering the tube feeding. the multidisciplinary effort required to deliver enteral therapy is essential to improve current practices used at hospitals.

  • This paper presents a cal center which is a subsystem of a web-based real time monitoring system of intensive care units. Based on Computer-Telephony Integration (CTI) technology, the call center attempts to efficiently and automatically send messages to patients\` families, doctors, and other staffs in hospital via communication media suitable to the occasion. The problem of determining appropriate media can be very complicated by the urgency of a message, calling time, and communication media available to the target person. We use the Dempster-Shafer theory, one of the uncertainty handling methods, to determine the most suitable communication media that will transmit a message rapidly and safely. In addition, we use agent technology to perform the calling process without requiring the intervention of the user of the call center. this call center enables message transfer through various communication media in an integrated environment, and relieves medical staff from the calling process, which in turn will make a contribution toward enhancing medical service.

  • This study intended to understand overall history of make-up in Korea in an integrated and diachronic context by interpreting women's will and desire to express themselves reflected in the cosmetics culture in each period centering on women's magazine cover, cosmetics advertisement, and articles from 1950 to 1999 and examining women's make-up image and characteristics in each period. A total of 919 women's magazines (Yeonwon (Women's Garden), Woman Sense, Yeoseong Donga (Women's Donga), Jubusaenghwal (Homemaker's Living), Yeoseong Jungang (Women's Jungang)) issued between 1950 and 1999 were examined for the study. Key words of each period were extracted through fashion and beauty related articles and advertisement titles to examine the make-up culture of Korean women and set the standard for the make-up image of Korean women. A total 1,252 pictures were shot for each period and categorized based on the standard for the make-up image of Korean women. Then, the changes in the make-up image of Korean women were examined and identified the characteristics of images along with the change of images in each period. Next, the meaning of each make-up image was examined. This can be interpreted as the expression of values and desire by modern Korean women, especially Korean women in the late 20th century, as well as the consciousness for coping with the changing society.
