Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene degree programs in Korea, as well as to develop a dementia-related curriculum for dental hygiene programs suitable for the social characteristics of Korea. Methods: The study was conducted between April and November 2018. First, the current state of dementia-related education for dental hygiene programs in colleges throughout Korea and dementia-related education for other health care-related fields were investigated. Based on the initial findings, the basic content of the preliminary curriculum was constructed. Second, based on the opinion of the dementia-related curriculum development committee comprising 10 professors of dental hygiene, the operations of dementia-related courses and relevant details were constructed. Third, these operations and relevant details were assessed and revised based on focus-group interviews. Fourth, the dementia-related curriculum was developed based on the study findings and literature review. Results: The name of the course in the developed curriculum was set as "Elderly Dental Hygiene and Practicum." The course was established as a "major elective," and was offered as two units with two instructional sessions of two hours each. The learning goal for this course was acquiring the methods for understanding and managing the characteristics of the elderly. A consensus was reached regarding conducting the theoretical and practical lessons on some of the dementia-related content. The dementia-related curriculum comprised 10 "required contents" which is to be conducted over three weeks of theoretical lessons and two weeks of practical lessons. Conclusions: With the growing elderly population, the development and operation of the curriculum for geriatric oral health interventions are warranted in dental hygiene education. However, continued discussions and improvements are needed on the extent of educational content, considering various dementia-related symptoms and general geriatric systemic diseases.

It is an established fact that the university library is an important element in the higher education system. To keep abreast with the changing social environment industrial development and explosive increase of knowledge, the university library must also find new a n.0, pproaches to better serve the users in the university community. Also, on the part of university faculty, instructional methods must be improved from text book oriented education toward assignment oriented education. To facilitate effective teaching, the role of university library and its efficient use has become more important and indispensable. The objective of this study was to review the literature, and to find out current practice among students and professional librarians on the library instruction in order to find ways to strengthen and improve it. A specially designed questionnaire was used to survey current status. Results of the survey are summarized as follows; (1) Most university students received some guidance on library utilization as part of their freshman orientation program. However, it is found that the elementary nature of the guidance program was insufficient for their subsequent actual attempt to use. Students are not familiar with library organization, search procedure, and they lack basic knowledge on library service available to them. (2) Problem areas related to library instruction are insufficient amount of time allocated for the guidance program, big size of orientation program, and lack of interest on the part of students, etc. It is therefore recommended that the above mentioned problem areas be overcome through cooperative and concerted efforts among faculty members, professional librarians, and the university administration by increasing library instruction hours, improving the contents of program in its scope and depth to be practically useful. To sum up, the lecture oriented education should be shifted toward library oriented education by improved instruction program on library use.

In recent years, There is a growing demand for more instructional hours because of the shortage of classes required for the software education included in the 2015 Revised Practical Arts Curriculum of elementary schools. Therefore, the Korea Association of Information Education developed the Informatics Curriculums Standard Model from 2014 to 2016 to revise the next 2020 curriculum. However, the KAIE curriculum lacks linkages with secondary school informatics curriculum and is not composed of core concept-based achievement criteria so that teachers have a lot of difficulties in reconstructing and operating the KAIE curriculum. In this study, four core concepts of information ethics were selected by conducting Delphi survey focusing on the teachers of elementary schools. In other words, we selected the core concepts of the information ethics domain: internet etiquette, personal information protection, information life, and copyright protection. Also, we suggested 16 specific criteria for the core concepts.
In this study, the effects of a four-stage problem-solving strategy emphasizing planning and checking stages were investigated. Two high school classes (N=55) were randomly assigned to either treatment or control group, and taught about two topics, 'gas' and 'solution' for 8 class hours. Teacher used the four-stage problem-solving strategy emphasizing planning and checking stages in the treatment group, and used traditional lecture in the control group. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the test scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the problem-solving ability, especially in the subcategories of 'conceptual knowledge' and 'mathematical execution'. There was significant interaction between the instruction and the level of prior achievement in the 'satisfaction' of the learning motivation. The lower level students in the control group were more satisfied with chemistry class than those in the treatment group. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the scores of the awareness of metacognition. Educational implications are discussed.

The effects of computer-assisted instruction (CAl) using molecular-level animation and worksheet upon students' achievement, conceptual understanding, and learning motivation were investigated. Treatment and control groups (2 classes) were selected from a girls' high school in Seoul, and taught about dissolution for 3 class hours. Before the instructions, the Patterns of Adaptive Learning Survey (PALS) was administered, and the grade for a previous science course was obtained. The PALS score was used as a covariate, and the other as a blocking variable. After the instructions, the achievement test, the conceptions test, and the Instructional Materials Motivation Scale (lMMS) were administered. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of the CAl group in the achievement and the conceptions tests were significantly higher than those of the control group. The CAl group also performed better in all subtests of the IMMS except the subtest of relevance.
The study is designed to grasp school adminstrators' attitudes toward school health education and practices of school health education and to analyse relationships between characteristics of school administators and their attitudes to school health education and between their attitudes and practices of school health education in elementary and secondary schools, so that it may offer the basic materials for improving the school health education. The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between burden and teaching effectiveness on clinical nursing practice. The subjects were collected 135 clinical nurses who have taught nursing students and worked at hospitals which have over 400 beds in Seoul, Inchon, and Kyoung-gi Do. The instruments used in this study were : the burden on clinical nursing education was measured by Montgomery (1985) developed and visual analogue scale, and effectiveness of clinical instruction was measured by Reeve (1994) developed. The results of this study were as follows. 1) Seeing that the general characteristics of participants : average ages we 32.8 years old, 29.6% of them have Catholics in religions. 75.6% of them were graduated from 3-year nursing college. 20.7% of nurses are working at the surgery ward and I.C.U in each. Clinical nursing career is average 10.03 years, clinical instructional career is 5.22 years, and clinical teaching time is 5.26 hours in a day. Contents of clinical teaching were composed of basic nursing skills 80.7%, orientation 78.5%, inspection(making rounds) 71.9%. 2) The mean score of the burden on clinical nursing instructor was 2.42 by Montgomery's scale and 4.69 by the visual analogue scale. Theses scores represented that subjects were not affected burden highly. The mean score of leaching effectiveness on clinical nursing education was 3.47 and the almost items were found to have higher level. 3) There is no statistically significant differences in the burden according to general characteristics. And the teaching effective ness on clinical nursing education according to general characteristics regarding the age, job position, clinical career and clinical educational time were shown statistically significant differences. 4) There is a negative correlation between the burden and teachin effectiveness on clinical nursing education with a correlation efficient(r=-0.396, p<0.01). Further study is recommended to explore the meaning of burden experiences of clinical instructor deeply and to identify the correlation between the burden of clinical instructor and teaching effectiveness as the job position, and to analysis differences in teaching effectiveness as subcategories.

As a case study on the changes of beginning science-gifted education teachers' teaching professionalism through coteaching, this study deeply investigated the change processes in the aspects of pedagogical content knowledge. We selected two beginning teachers whose teaching careers in secondary science-gifted education were less than five years. The teachers planned, performed, and reflected together their science instructions for secondary science-gifted students during nine class hours over three times. We observed coteaching of science instructions of the teachers, and analyzed the taped videos, the materials, the transcripts for discussions between them and in-depth interviews with them, their reflective journals, and researcher's field notes by using the constant comparative method. This study revealed that the coteaching positively changed the two teachers' practical knowledge about the curriculum for science-gifted education, the instructional strategies for science-gifted education, the assessment in science-gifted education, the science-gifted students, and the science contents although there were some limitations. The results suggest that the coteaching will be useful in improving beginning teachers' teaching professionalism, and provide practical implications in finding the ways to use it effectively in science-gifted education.
This study aimed to develop a music teaching-learning program for secondary students with intellectual disabilities in special education settings based on music therapy approach. Designed lesson plans included three learning domains based on the guidelines from 2008 amendments to the special education music curriculum: Perception, expression, and appreciation. Within the domains, instruction topics and its corresponding contents were re-structured as considered more appropriate and effective for implementing music classes for this population. With consideration of therapeutic goals as well as educational goals, student activities and teacher activities were designed and the activities were presented at three levels depending on students' functional levels. Integrating these instructional components into an actual plan, this study presented yearly (for 20 hours of classes) and monthly lesson plans. The developed lesson plans were reviewed and verified by related professionals including special class teachers and music therapists. As systematic and well-organized lesson plans, the results from this study would provide basic music education resources for students with intellectual disabilities in special education settings. It would also enable the discussion on the music therapy-based teaching-learning program as new methodological and strategic ideas applicable to future special education.
