  • Needs fulfillment is one of the most critical concepts in defining and managing an Institutional Household (IH). Though most major studies in the field have emphasized the importance of needs fulfillment, few studies have focused on the concrete concept and/or strategy for needs fulfillment. This study delved into elaborated concepts and management strategies for needs fulfillment in IH. First, the paper redefined the concept of customers' needs for IH by contrasting the basic needs as a human being with those provided by the family and the employees' needs within IH. The paper dimensionalized the needs and matched them with specific management aspects of IH. Based on the refined concepts of needs, the second part of the paper dealt with the management strategies for needs fulfillment in IH. Needs fulfillment management strategies were discussed in three aspects: needs assessment, needs fulfillment program performance, and program evaluation. Finally, the authors discussed how needs fulfillment management discussed in this paper could be applied to the curriculum development for educating and licensing IH Managers.

  • This study examined the effects institutional block ownership on the stock market liquidity in Korean Stock Market. The two measures of institutional block ownership are used. They are the percentage of a stock owned by institutional blockholder and the number of institutional blockholder that own the stock. This study used the Amihud(2002) illiquidity measure to measure stock market liquidity. The results are as fellows. First, this study showed that the number of institutional blockholder is significantly negatively correlated with the Amihud(2002) illiquidity measure in the analysis which is used the whole data. But we found no a consistent results between the number of institutional blockholder and the Amihud(2002) illiquidity measure in the grouped institutional blockholder's number analysis. This indicates that the effects institutional blockholder on market liquidity is not simple. Second, this study showed that the percentage of a stock owned by institutional blockholder are negatively related with Amihud(2002) illiquidity measure, especially revealed statistically significant in the group 3(11.71%~17.38%) and group 4(7.45%~11.65%). This results suggest that the institutional blockholder have positive effect on the market liquidity in the group 3 and 4. Third, the significance of the percentage of institutional block ownership and the number of institutional block ownership in explaining illiquidity are more showed in the term of the global financial crisis(2008) than the before and the after of the global financial crisis.

  • Purpose - This study aims to identify the importance of subsidiary entrepreneurship as a key factor when MNE attempts to invest in challenging overseas markets. Through the simultaneous consideration of institutional theory and entrepreneurship theory, this study would like to examine how Korean subsidiaries in the Middle East improve their performance locally. Design/methodology - To reflect the characteristics of emerging markets, this study conducted a survey of Korean subsidiaries in the Middle East in cooperation with KOTRA and analyzed the hypotheses using a structural equation model based on 249 valid responses. Findings - The findings of this study are as follows. First, we found that institutional and business distance would positively affect subsidiaries' entrepreneurship. The result that subsidiaries' entrepreneurship is positively affected by institutional and business distance implies that attempts to close the difference between heterogeneous markets would increase subsidiaries' innovative proactiveness, such as R&D and creative marketing strategies. Second, we confirmed that the institutional and business distance positively mediate the subsidiaries' entrepreneurship growth, leading to high performance. Therefore, Korean subsidiaries are required and prepared to establish strategies to better understand institutional and business distances in advance and reduce the liability of foreignness by conducting customized research and training programs before sending Korean expatriates to local subsidiaries in the Middle East. Originality/value - This study contributed to institutional and entrepreneurship theory by proving the traditional relationship between institutional and business distance to subsidiaries' performance and the mediation of subsidiary entrepreneurship.

  • When an economy has institutional price constraints the relationship between market prices and shadow prices is not yet fully investigated. A pure consumption economy is considered where market prices guide the consumption behavior and shadow prices measure the social value of resources. In this case we show that if the utility function is additively separable there exists a complementarity relation between the difference of the market price and the shadow price and the difference of the market price and the regulated upper (or lower) bound.

  • This paper delves into philosophical aspects of institutional household(IH) study. The paper argues that it is also necessary to investigate theoretical, methodological, and philosophical issues, not only prescriptive, practical, and managerial ones, in order to establish a field of study as an independent area of academic discipline. In that sense the paper is expected to contribute to the establishment of "the science of IH" as well as the growth of knowledge in that field. For philosophical discussions, the paper first reviews overall sub-fields of philosophy of science such as ontology, epistemology, methodology, and the debate on human nature. Then, it focuses on philosophical issues relating to the nature of IH including (1) the substance of institutional household as scientific investigation, (2) the epistemological basis of IH study, (3) the possibility of normal methodology in studying IH, (4) the values that IH ought to pursue, and (5) the rationale and autonomy of IH study. In the conclusion section, the paper discusses why the study on philosophical aspects in IH is critical in academic community of family resource management.anagement.

  • With the rising attention dedicated to research ethics, the responsibility of researchers to comply with research ethics is also highlighted. Among a number of research ethics obligations that researchers should abide by, an institutional review board (IRB) review is the most essential step to be taken before launching research. As the health service research field grapples with human subjects, it closely aligns with IRB deliberation. However, it seems that researchers still do not fully understand their obligations of IRB reviews. Due to the nature of health services research, there are many cases that are exempt from IRB reviews, which often elicits confusion in the research field. On that note, we aim to explore the issues regarding IRB reviews that health service researchers need to know.

  • This study extracted quality control factors for invigorating Institutional Repository operations, and re-extracted key quality control factors with significant influence among them. Furthermore, this study developed an operating model reflecting an improvement scheme of these key quality control factors, and estimated how much effective the operating model was to the user. As a result of inspecting satisfaction for IR operating model and the general system, it has been found that librarians' satisfaction for them is higher than that of the general user. Korea's universities prefer a proxy submission mode by librarians to a self-archiving submission mode by writers. Therefore, based on the operation model developed by this study, it is suggested that Institutional Repository operation can be actively invigorated with librarians of these universities as central players.
