A simplified method for the calculation of dynamic characteristics of initially stressed antisymmetric cross-ply laminated shells is presented in this paper using the natural frequencies under unloading state. The equation of motion of laminated shell with two opposite edges simply supported is investigated on the basis of Rayleigh-Ritz method and Mindlin shell theory with effect of the curvature term. The relationships of the non-dimensional natural frequencies with initial stresses the coeffcients of critical buckling and the boundaries of te dynamic principal instability region can be characterized by the non-dimensional natureal frequencies under unloading state. Numerical examples are presented t verify the simplified equations and to illustrate potential applications of the analysis.
The instability of operational channels on cognitive radio networks (CRNs), which is due to the stochastic behavior of primary users (PUs), has increased the complexity of the design of the optimal routing criterion (ORC) in CRNs. The exploitation of available opportunities in CRNs, such as the channel diversity, as well as alternative routes provided by the intermediate nodes belonging to routes (internal backup routes) in the route-cost (or weight) determination, complicate the ORC design. In this paper, to cover the channel diversity, the CRN is modeled as a multigraph in which the weight of each edge is determined according to the behavior of PU senders and the protection of PU receivers. Then, an ORC for CRNs, which is referred to as the stability probability of communication between the source node and the destination node (SPC_SD), is proposed. SPC_SD, which is based on the obtained model, internal backup routes, and probability theory, calculates the precise probability of communication stability between the source and destination. The performance evaluation is conducted using simulations, and the results show that the end-to-end performance improved significantly.
A linear acoustic analysis has been performed to elucidate damping characteristics of
acoustic cavities in a liquid rocket combustor. Results have shown that resonant
frequencies of acoustic cavity obtained by classical theoretic approach and by the
present linear analysis are somewhat different with each other. This difference is
attributed to the limitation of the simplified classical theory. To quantify the damping
characteristics, acoustic impedance has been introduced and resultant absorption
coefficient and conductance have been evaluated. Satisfactory agreement has been
achieved with previous experiment. Finally the design procedure for an optimal tuning
of acoustic cavity has been established.

Explicit numerical integration methods for power system transient stability simulation require very small time steps to avoid numerical instability. The EXST1 exciter model is a primary source of fast dynamics in power system transients. In case of the EXST1, the required small integration time step for entire system simulation increases the computational demands in terms of running time and storage. This paper presents a practical exciter model reduction approach which allows the increase of the required step size and thus the method can decrease the computational demands. The fast dynamics in the original EXST1 are eliminated in the reduced exciter model. The use of a larger time step improves the computational efficiency. This paper describes the way to eliminate the fast dynamics from the original exciter model based on linear system theory. In order to validate the performance of the proposed method, case studies with the GSO-37 bus system are provided. Comparisons between the original and reduced models are made in simulation accuracy and critical clearing time.

The stability of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a crack and tip mass is investigated by the numerical method. That is, the effects of the rotating angular velocity, mass ratio, crack severity and tip mass on the critical flow velocity for flutter instability of system are studied. The equations of motion of rotating pipe are derived by using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the extended Hamilton's principle. The crack section of pipe is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments. Also, the crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and always opened during the vibrations. When the tip mass and crack are constant, the critical flow velocity for flutter is proportional to the rotating angular velocity of pipe. In addition, the stability maps of the rotating pipe system as a rotating angular velocity and mass ratio ${\beta}$ are presented.
This work employed density functional theory to investigate the structural and ferroelectric properties of the Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) phase of lead titanate, $Pb_2TiO_4$, as well as its phase transitions with epitaxial strain. A wealth of novel structural instabilities, which are absent in the host $PbTiO_3$ material, were identified in the RP phase through phonon soft-mode analysis. Our calculations showed that the ground state of $Pb_2TiO_4$ is antiferroelectric, distinct from the dominant ferroelectric phase in the corresponding host material. In addition, applied epitaxial strain was found to play a key role in the interactions among the instabilities. The induction of a sequence of antiferroelectric and antiferrodistortive (AFD) phase transitions by epitaxial strain was demonstrated, in which the ferroic instability and AFD distortion were cooperative rather than competitive, as is the case in the host $PbTiO_3$. The RP phase in conjunction with strain engineering thus represents a new approach to creating ferroic orders and modifying the interplay among structural instabilities in the same constituent materials, enabling us to tailor the functionality of perovskite oxides for novel device applications.
We have examined its current economic conditions and status of the Bangsamoro in Mindanao and derived some important policy recommendation to build the future development plan. For this purpose, we first estimate the economic size and GRDP per capita and investigate next several economic and social indicators such as poverty rate and industrial structure. We find that the Bangsamoro is the least developed region in Philippines whose average income is the lowest and whose poverty rate is the highest in the Philippines. In addition, its industrial structure is very falling behind. Applying simple theory of economic growth, we find that several economic reasons such as lack of private and public investment caused by the political instability, high illiterate rate and less education, incapability of local government account for it. As a result, several policy recommendations are suggested to make the development plan of the Bangsamoro. First, the plan should be very comprehensive and second, it should be a very sustainable one equipped with the long run one and short run one. Third, the plan should be harmonized with that of the central government and those of neighboring local governments. Fourth, it should exploit the assistance of international development organization.

This paper deals with the aeroelastic instability of vibrating multiple blade rows under aerodynamic coupling with each other. A model composed of three blade rows, e.g., rotor-stator-rotor, where blades of the two rotor cascades are simultaneously vibrating, is considered. The displacement of a blade vibrating under aerodynamic force is expanded in a modal series with the natural mode shape functions, and the modal amplitudes are treated as the generalized coordinates. The generalized mass matrix and the generalized stiffness matrix are formulated on the basis of the finite element concept. The generalized aerodynamic force on a vibrating blade consists of the component induced by the motion of the blade itself and those induced not only by vibrations of other blades of the same cascade but also vibrations of blades in another cascade. To evaluate the aerodynamic forces, the unsteady lifting surface theory for the model of three blade rows is applied. The so-called k method is applied to determine the critical flutter conditions. A numerical study has been conducted. The flutter boundaries are compared with those for a single blade row. It is shown that the effect of the aerodynamic blade row coupling substantially modifies the critical flutter conditions.
Giant radio relics in the outskirts of galaxy clusters have been observed and they are interpreted as synchrotron emission from relativistic electrons accelerated via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA) in weak shocks of Ms < 3.0. In the DSA theory, the particle momentum should be greater than a few times the momentum of thermal protons to cross the shock transition and participate in the Fermi acceleration process. In the equilibrium, the momentum of thermal electrons is much smaller than the momentum of thermal protons, so electrons need to be pre-accelerated before they can go through DSA. To investigate such electron injection process, we study the electron pre-acceleration in weak quasi-perpendicular shocks (Ms = 2.0 - 3.0) in an ICM plasma (kT = 8.6 keV, beta = 100) through 2D particle-in-cell simulations. It is known that in quasi-perpendicular shocks, a substantial fraction of electrons could be reflected upstream, gain energy via shock drift acceleration (SDA), and generate oblique waves via the electron firehose instability (EFI), leading the energization of electrons through wave-particle interactions. We find that such kinetic processes are effective only in supercritical shocks above a critical Mach number, $Ms{\ast}{\sim}2.3$. In addition, even in shocks with Ms > 2.3, energized electrons may not reach high energies to be injected to DSA, because the oblique EFI alone fails to generate long-wavelength waves. Our results should have implications for the origin and nature of radio relics.

In this study, thermally induced bifurcation buckling of shallow composite cylindrical panels reinforced with aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes is investigated. Distribution of carbon nanotubes across the thickness of the cylindrical panel as reinforcements may be either uniform or functionally graded. Thermo-mechanical properties of the matrix and reinforcements are considered to be temperature dependent. Properties of the cylindrical panel are obtained using a refined micromechanical approach which introduces the auxiliary parameters into the rule of mixtures. The governing equations are obtained by using the static version of the Hamilton principle based on the first-order shear deformation theory and considering the linear strain-displacement relation. An energy-based Ritz method and an iterative process are used to obtain the critical buckling temperature of composite cylindrical panel with temperature dependent material properties. In addition, the effect of various parameters such as the boundary conditions, different geometrical conditions, distribution pattern of CNTs across the thickness and their volume fraction are studied on the critical buckling temperature and buckled pattern of cylindrical panels. It is shown that FG-X type of CNT dispersion is the most influential type in thermal stability.
