  • This paper proposes a dry-type surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. The designed surface myoelectric sensor is composed of skin interface and processing circuits. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm is selected. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60㎐ power-line noise, amplifier, and a level circuit. Using SUS440, six prototype skin interface with different reference electrode shape and IED is fabricated, and their output characteristics are evaluated by output signal obtained from the forearm of a healthy subject. The experimental results show that the skin interface with parallel bar shape and the 18mm IED has a good output characteristics. The fabricated dry-type surface myoelectric sensor is evaluated for the upper-limb amputee.

  • In this paper, we present the estimation of wind turbine power generation using Cascade Architectures of Fuzzy Neural Networks(CAFNN). The proposed model uses the wind speed average, the standard deviation and the past output power as input data. The CAFNN identification process uses a 10-min average wind speed with its standard deviation. The method for rule-based fuzzy modeling uses Gaussian membership function. It has three fuzzy variables with three modifiable parameters. The CAFNN's configuration has three Logic Processors(LP) that are constructed cascade architecture and an effective optimization method uses two-level genetic algorithm. First, The CAFNN is trained with one-day average input variables. Once the CAFNN has been trained, test data are used without any update. The main advantage of using CAFNN is having simple structure of system with many input variables. Therefore, The proposed CAFNN technique is useful to predict the wind turbine(WT) power effectively and hence that information will be helpful to decide the control strategy for the WT system operation and application.

  • An integrated ZCS quasi-resonant converter(QRC) for the power factor correction with a single switch is presented in this paper. The power factor correction can be achieved by the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) operation of the input current. The proposed converter gives the good power factor, low line current harmonics, and tight output regulation. The input current waveform of the prototype designed using design equations shows about 15% of total harmonic distortion at rated condition. Also, the efficiency and power factor can be obtained about 86% and 0.985, respectively, at rated condition. The proposed converter is suitable for a low power level converter with a tightly regulated low output voltage and switching frequency of more than several hundreds kHz.

  • This paper present the Three-Level converter using IM(Integrated Magnetics) method for high power application. In power conversion system, magnetic components are important devices used for energy storage, energy transfer, galvanic isolation and filtering. The proposed Three-Level converter is to reduce the number of magnetic components using transformer integrated with output inductor. This paper proposes reluctance model base on the magnetic analysis for the Three-Level converter. Also, the secondary rectification was discussed by a single core transformer winding. • We proposed a new cross-coupled level shifter circuit using low temperature poly-Si(LTPS) TFT. The proposed level shifter can operate on low input voltage in spite of low mobility and widely varying high threshold voltage of LTPS TFT. Also, the proposed level shifter operates at high frequency and reduces power consumption for having fast rising and falling time and shortening period flowing short-circuit currents.

  • A low power 6-bit flash ADC that uses an input voltage range detection algorithm is described. An input voltage level detector circuit has been designed to overcome the disadvantages of the flash ADC which consume most of the dynamic power dissipation due to comparators array. In this work, four digital input voltage range detectors are employed and each input voltage range detector generates the specific clock signal only if the input voltage falls between two adjacent reference voltages applied to the detector. The specific clock signal generated by the detector is applied to turn the corresponding latched comparators on and the rest of the comparators off. This ADC consumes 68.82mW with a single power supply of 1.2V and achieves 4.9 effective number of bits for input frequency up to 1MHz at 500 MS/s. Therefore it results in 4.75pJ/step of Figure of Merit (FoM). The chip is fabricated in 0.13-um CMOS process.

  • This paper presents 6bit 250MS/s flash A/D converter which can be applied to wireless communication system. To solve the problem of large power consumption in flash A/D converter, control algorithm by input signal level is used in comparator stage. Also, input voltage range detector circuit is used in reference resistor array to minimize the dynamic power consumption in the comparator. Compared with the conventional A/D converter, the proposed A/D converter shows 4.3% increase of power consumption in analog and a seventh power consumption in digital, which leads to a half of power consumption in total. The A/D converter is implemented in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS 1-poly 6-metal technology. The measured results show 106mW power dissipation with 1.8V supply voltage. It shows 4.1bit ENOB at sampling frequency 250MHz and 30.27MHz input frequency.

  • In order to evaluate the applicability of thermosyphon as an equipment of heat transfer to the case where natural of low temperature and low density is necessary and to propose the possibility of using natural energy being clean and inexhaustible, a thermosypon using methanol as working fluid was constructed and its transfer characteristics were analysed. The wall temperature of the thermosyphon was maintained relatively uniform after rapid increase until after being heated about ten minutes regardless of the level of input powers to the evaporating section. Inner pressure of the thermosyphon increased rapidly until after ten minutes, and then increased slowly depending on the level of input power. But heat transfer coefficient of the condensible section decreased in inverse proportion to input powers of 250~300W, showing $1008.3{\sim}829.8W/m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C$. For the input powers of the thermosyphon within the range of 100~250W, heat transferred and heat flux increased relatively linearly showing, in the case of input powers of 250~300W, heat transfer efficiency considerable increased, showing 63.8%.

  • This paper discusses the maintenance of the water level of steam generators at its programmed value. The process, the water level of a steam generator, has the nonminimum phase property. So, it causes a reverse dynamics called a swell and shrink phenomenon. This phenomenon is severe in a low power condition below 15 %, in turn makes the start-up of the power plant too difficult. The control algorithm used here incorporates a pole-assignment scheme into the minimum variance strategy and we use a parallel adaptation algorithm for the parameter estimation, which is robust to noises. As a result, the total control system can keep the water level constant during full power by locating closed-loop poles appropriately, although the process has the characteristics of high complexity and nonlinearity. Also, the extra perturbation signals are added to the input signal such that the control system guarantee persistently exciting. In order to confirm the control performance of a proposed pole-assignment self-tuning controller we perform a computer simulation in full power range.

  • Cascaded H-Bridge multi-level inverters can be implemented through the series connection of single-phase modular power bridges. In recent years, multi-level inverters are becoming increasingly popular for high power applications due to its improved harmonic profile and increased power ratings. This paper presents a control method for balancing the dc-link voltage and ride-through enhancement, a modified pulse width-modulation Compensation algorithm of cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverters. During an under-voltage protection mechanism, causing the system to shut down within a few milliseconds after a power interruption in the main input sources. When a power interruption occurs finish, if the system is a large inertia restarting the load a long time is required. This paper suggests modifications in the control algorithm in order to improve the sag ride-through performance of ac inverter. The new proposed strategy recommends maintaining the DC-link voltage constant at the nominal value during a sag period, experimental results are presented.
