  • The input estimation method estimates maneuvering input acceleration in order to track a maneuvering target. In this paper, the optimal input estimator is derived by choosing the MAP hypothesis among maneuvering input transition hypotheses under the assumption that a maneuvering input acceleration is a semi-Markov process. The optimal input estimation method cannot be realized because the optimal filter should consider every maneuver onset time hypothesis from filter starting time to current time which increase rapidly. Hence the suboptimal filter using a sliding window is proposed. Since the proposed method can consider all hypotheses of input transitions inside the window, it is general enough to include Bogler's input estimation method. Simulation results show, however, that we can obtain a good performance even when the filter considering just one input transition in the window is used. (author). 9 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.

  • A new interacting multiple model (IMM) method using intelligent input estimation (IIE) is proposed to track a maneuvering target. In the proposed method, the acceleration level for each sub-model is determined by IIE-the estimation of the unknown acceleration input by a fuzzy system using the relation between maneuvering filter residual and non-maneuvering one. The genetic algorithm (GA) is utilized to optimize a fuzzy system for a sub-model within a fixed range of acceleration input. Then, multiple models are composed of these fuzzy systems, which are optimized for different ranges of acceleration input. In computer simulation for an incoming ballistic missile, the tracking performance of the proposed method is compared with those of the input estimation (IE) technique and the adaptive interacting multiple model (AIMM) method.

  • An input power estimation method of a three-phase inverter for the high-efficiency operation of AC motors is proposed. Measuring devices, such as DC link voltage and input current sensors, are required to obtain the input power of the inverter. In the proposed method, the input power of the inverter can be estimated without the input current sensor by using the phase current information of the AC motor and the switching pattern of the inverter. The proposed method is more robust to parameter error than conventional method. The validity of the input power estimation method is verified through experiments conducted on a 1 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor drive system.

  • The current tendency toward light weight and fast machines has lead to a need to suppress vibration of flexible dynamic systems. Input shaping is an efficient tool to eliminate transient and residual vibration caused by motion of these systems. This paper proposes a new formulation of the design method for multi-mode input shapers to eliminate residual vibration in flexible dynamic systems. The essence of the proposed method is to minimize the number of impulses to be n+1 for n-mode input shapers. This paper also suggests a solution procedure to solve the complex-valued nonlinear matrix equation for the input shapers. The proposed method is applied to two-mode input shapers. This paper discusses characteristics of several input shapers obtained under the same condition. Simulations and experiments show that the proposed method is very useful for designing multi-mode input shapers.

  • Industrial cranes are indispensable equipment in heavy industry. However, unwanted vibrations in cranes often cause accidents. Input shaping is widely accepted as a useful tool for removing residual vibration in cranes. A unity magnitude zero vibration (UMZV) input shaper is often used for cranes driven by on-off-type motors. However, although a UMZV input shaper minimizes residual vibration, the input shaper cannot prevent the crane from moving slightly further than expected from the original command. This paper describes an improved method of input shaping that can compensate for position inaccuracies, as well as remove the residual vibration of cranes. Experiments were performed to validate the proposed input-shaping method, illustrated through numerical simulations.

  • In arc spot welding process, the arc is not moving and heat input is concentrated in one spot so that the heat input efficiency of arc is higher than that of GMAW. In other words, the heat input efficiency of arc change during weld time because arc start is done in spot and weld metal is filled. Therefore, the heat input model of arc spot welding should be different from that of general GMAW. In present study, the calculating model of heat input efficiency in arc spot welding was suggested by temperature monitoring near spot in arc spot welding of copper plate. The result showed that the heat input efficiency of arc was changed three times during weld time. The accuracy of calculating method of heat input efficiency was verified by heat transfer analysis of arc spot welding process using finite element method.

  • Chinese is the most spoken language in the world. However, because Chinese is a hieroglyphic language, using Chinese in a digital environment is very inconvenient. Chinese users are using Pinyin for Chinese input, but the phonetic representation of the Latin alphabet is not good. Hunminjeongeum has an excellent phonetic representation which can improve Chinese usage in digital environment. Therefore, it is possible to improve the use of Chinese by Chinese users in digital environment and to help Korean users who are learning Chinese. Therefore, this paper proposes a Chinese input method using Hunminjeongeum. In addition, we develop an input software using this input method and verify its effectiveness by evaluating usability.

  • In a situation that building energy consumption is increasing worldwide, the research utilizing BIM technology to analyze building energy has been actively conducted. On the other hand, data input method of the building energy analysis has been still manually entered. This paper proposed a improved input method of required information for building energy analysis using the ECO2-OD program. As a result, although some required information of BIM based design software could be almost entered when it comes to general information and architectural sector, it has a problem to be handled in HVAC sector. Therefore, in the both of general and architectural sectors, the BIM information from the BIM-based design software could be directly used to automatically and systematically input the information. Future research should be studied the algorism and method in connection with data exchange to utilize input method of ECO2-OD from BIM data.

  • In most physical processes, the transfer function includes time-delay, and in the general distributed control system using computer network, there exists inherent time-delay caused by the spatial separation between controllers and actuators. This work deals with the synthesis of a discrete-time controller for a nonlinear system and proposes a new effective method to compensate the influence of input time-delay. The controller is synthesized by using input/output linearization. Under the circumstance that input time-delay exists, the system response has more overshoot and tends to diverge. For these reasons, the controller has to produce future input value that will be needed for the system. In order to calculate the future input value, some predictors are adopted. Using the discretization via Euler's method, numerical simulations about the Van der Pol system are performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed method.
