  • This paper proposes a corrective control system to achieve fault-tolerant control for input/output asynchronous sequential circuits vulnerable to transient faults violating fundamental mode operations. To overcome non-fundamental mode faults occurring in transient transitions of asynchronous sequential circuits, it is necessary to determine the end of unauthorized state transitions caused by the faults and to stably take the circuit from the faulty state to a desired state that is output equivalent with the normal next stable state. We address the existence condition for a proper output-feedback corrective controller that achieves fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control for these non-fundamental mode faults. The corrective controller and asynchronous sequential circuit are implemented on field-programming gate array to demonstrate the synthesis procedure and applicability of the proposed control scheme.

  • A new method of Fault Diagnosis in linear systems using unknown input observer design technique is presented. This method is based upon the fact that the structural uncertainties, actuator faults, and sensor faults of a linear system can be rewritten in unknown inputs. The proposed method can simultaneously estimate the state variables of an actual system, as well as the actuator and sensor faults.

  • Analysis of faults in induction motors has become a major field of research due to importance of loss and damage reduction and maximum online performance of motors. There are several methods to analyze the faults in an induction motor from conventional Fourier transform to modern decision-making neural networks. Considering detectability of fault among all methods, a new fault detection solution has been proposed; it is called as frequency-domain Discrete Wavelet Transform (FD-DWT). In this method, the stator current is decomposed through series of low- and high-pass filters and consequently, the fault characteristics are more visible, because additional components have been reduced. The objective of this paper is early detection of input voltage unbalance in induction motor using wavelet transform in frequency domain. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in early detection of faults.

  • In this paper robust test generation for stuck-open faults in CMOS circuits is proposed. By obtaining initialization patterns and test patterns using the relationship of bit position and Hamming weight among input vectors for CMOS circuit test generation time for stuck-open faults can be reduced, and the problem of input transition skew which make fault detection difficult is solved, and the number of test sequences are minimized. Also the number of test sequences is reduced by arranging test sequences using Hamming distance between initialization patterns and test patterns for circuit.

  • This paper addresses the problem of fault detection and tolerance for asynchronous sequential machines using state feedback control. The considered asynchronous machine is affected by intermittent faults. When intermittent faults occur, the machine undergoes unauthorized state transitions and, for a finite duration, remains at the fault state, not responding to the change of the external input. In this paper, we postulate the scheme of detecting intermittent faults and present the existence condition and design algorithm for a robust state feedback controller that overcomes the adversarial effect of intermittent faults. We also undertake a comparative study between the previous control scheme for transient faults and the present strategy for intermittent faults. The design procedure for the proposed controller is described in a case study.

  • In this paper, for detection and isolation of instrument and process faults related with steam generator(S/G) in nuclear power plant, two types of observers are designed based on the linearized dynamic model of S/G : a bank of Dedicated Observers (DOS) for instrument faults detection and a bank of Unknown Input Observers(UIO) for process faults detection. And then, they are combined to decide which one between the above two faults occurs. In principle, the failure in ith instrument(process) can be isolated by monitoring the error between the ith output and its estimation obtained from the ith DOS(UIO). It is shown via computer simulations that the present scheme is feasible in finding out the source of a fault.

  • Beause BiCMOS logic circuits consist of CMOS part which constructs logic function and bipolar part which drives output load, the effect of short faults on BiCMOS logic circuits represented different types from that on CMOS. This paper proposes new test method which detects short faults on BiCMOS logic circuits using current path graph. Proposed method transforms BiCMOS circuits into raph constructed by nodes and edges using extended switch-level model and separates the transformed graph into pull-up part and pull-down part. Also, proposed method eliminates edge or add new edge, according ot short faults on terminals of transistor, and can detect short faults using current path graph that generated from on- or off-relations of transistor by input patterns. Properness of proposed method is verified by comparing it with results of spice simulation.

  • This paper proposes techniques to diagnose short-circuit faults of both the diodes and power FET in switching mode power supply (SMPS) by using a simple analog tester. The diodes in full-bridge rectifier, power FET, switching transformer, and some sensors are modelled with resistor. The total resistance value measured at the input terminal of a SMPS is analyzed when the short-circuit faults of diodes in a full bridge rectifier or power FET are occurred. The short-circuit faults of one or two diodes in a full bridge rectifier, power FET, and both the diodes in a full bridge rectifier and power FET can be detected by a range of total resistance, which is measured by the analog tester. Through experiments, the theoretical analysis for total resistance under short-circuit faults can be verified.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of the fault diagnosis on the Electronic Throttle Control(ETC) System. The proposed fault diagnosis consists of an input signal, actuator and a processor diagnosis. The input signal diagnosis can detect the faults of the ETC system's input signals such as the position sensor fault, source voltage fault, load current fault, and desired position fault. The actuator diagnosis is able to detect the actuator fault due to the actuator aging and an obstacle which interfere in the movement of the actuator. The processor diagnosis detects the fault which prevents the microprocessor from operating the ETC software. In order to protect the breakdown of the ETC system and assure the driving safety, appropriate reactions are also proposed according to the detected faults. The safety and reliability of the ETC system can be improved by the proposed fault diagnosis.
