IoT Device Testing for Efficient IoT Device Framework

  • IoT devices frequently require input resources to communicate with various sensors or IoT platforms. IoT device wastes a lot of time as idle time or waiting time to check the data of the input resource and use the input resource. In addition, IoT devices use various input resources. We compares and analyzes input idle time and input waiting time generated from hardware serial input resource, software serial input resource, digital port input resource, and analog port input resource using Arduino widely used as IoT device. In order to design the IoT device framework, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of input resources and to design them to minimize unnecessary input idle time and input waiting time. The analog input wait time has a much larger input wait time than the digital input wait time, so it must be designed to receive analog information periodically at the appropriate timing. The characteristics of the input resources analyzed in this way help to design an efficient IoT device.

  • The input and output device requires precise color representation and CMS (Color Management System) because of the increasing number of ways to apply the digital image into electronic publishing. However, there are slight differences in the device dependent color signal among the input and output devices. Also, because of the non-linear conversion of the input signal value to the output signal value, there are color differences between the original copy and the output copy. It seems necessary for device-dependent color information values to change into device-independent color information values. When creating an original copy through electronic publishing, there should be color management with the input and output devices. From the devices' three phases of calibration, characterization and color conversion, the device-dependent color should undergo a color transformation into a device-independent color. In this paper, an experiment was done where the input device used the linear multiple regression and the sRGB color space to perform a color transformation. The output device used the GOG, GOGO and sRGB for the color transformation. After undergoing a color transformation in the input and output devices, the best results were created when the original target underwent a color transformation by the scanner and digital camera input device by the linear multiple regression, and the LCD output device underwent a color transformation by the GOG model.

  • Existing input devices for desktop computers are not suitable for wearable computers because they are neither easy to carry nor convenient to use in a mobile working environment. Different input devices for wearable computers must be developed. In this paper, a wireless glove-based input device for wearable computers is proposed. The proposed input device consists of a pair of chording gloves. Its keys are mounted on the fingers and their chording methods are similar to those of a Braille keyboard. RF (Radio Frequency) and IrDA (Infrared Data Association) modules are used to make the proposed input device wireless. Since the Braille representation for numbers and characters is efficient and has been well established for many languages in the world, the proposed input device may be one of good input devices to computers. Furthermore, since the Braille has been used for visually impaired people, the proposed one can be easily used as an input device to computers for them.

  • Recently, the research for the mobile computing such as PDA, Palm PC and wearable computing related technologies is widely under development, specially for the input device. Among the mobile input methods are speech recognition, handwriting recognition and cording type. However these systems have the problems of the data input appraratus like input speed and recognition rate. This paper presents the Glove-based input device which could solve the system's data input problem. By the experimental results suggest the method of proposional input method that utilize the hand's movement is appropriate for the effective mobile input devices.

  • In this paper, we propose and developed a keyglove using the touch-typing method as new solutions to the problem of text input into the mobile computing devices. This device recognizes that character is typed in though the hand's movements analysis and requires no additional space on a person's desktop or work surface, and can be easily used with computers of any size, even the smallest mobile computer, and is designed as an input device for wearable computers and virtual environment.   • In many areas of technology there are machines and systems controllable in up to six degrees of freedom. Helicopters and underwater vehicles, industrial robots are among the first representatives of this category. They need six degrees of freedom in order to move and orient within their workspace. An even broader and more explosively growing area is 3D computer graphics and virtual environment. In this work, functions of 3D input device are described and two types of commercial 3D input device are presented. Then, a preliminary experiment of a low cost 6 axis force/moment sensor is presented that can also be sued as a 3D input device. A low cost force/moment sensor and its application in robot teaching experiment is described. It computes the direction of 3 components of the force and 3 components of the moment applied by human holding the sensor by hand. The concept is shown by an experiment where the tool position and orientation of a robot in 3 dimensional space is controlled by the proposed sensor.

  • High speed PC-based DIO(Digital I/O) system that consists of a master device and slave I/O devices is developed. The PCI interfaced master device controls all of serial communications, reducing the load on the CPU to a minimum. The slave device is connected from the master device and another slave device is connected to the slave device, it can repeated to maximum 64 slave devices. The slave device has 3 types I/O mode, such as 16 bits input-only, 16 bits output-only, and 8bits input-output. The master device has 2 rings which can take 64 slaves each. Therefore, total I/O points covered by the master is 2048 points. The slave features 3 types of input/output function interchangeability by DIP switch settings. Library, application, and device driver software for the DIO system that have a secure and a convenient functionality are developed.

  • In this paper, we develop a gesture-based input device equipped with accelerometers and gyroscopes. The sensors measure the inertial measurements, i.e., accelerations and angular velocities produced by the movement of the system when a user is inputting gestures on a plane surface or in a 3D space. The gyroscope measurements are integrated to give orientation of the device and consequently used to compensate the accelerations. The compensated accelerations are doubly integrated to yield the position of the device. With this approach, a user's gesture input trajectories can be recovered without any external sensors. Three versions of motion tracking algorithms are provided to cope with wide spectrum of applications. Then, a Bayesian network based recognition system processes the recovered trajectories to identify the gesture class. Experimental results convincingly show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed gesture input device. In order to show practical use of the proposed input method, we implemented a prototype system, which is a gesture-based remote controller (Magic Wand).

  • Recently, the researches on the mobile computing technologies for palm computers, PDA´s and wearable computers became very active. Improving Finger-click Recognition of a Wearable Input Device

  • In this paper, a finger-click recognition method is proposed to improve the recognition performance for finger-clicking of a wearable input device, called $SCURRY^{TM}$. The proposed method is composed of three parts including feature extraction part, valid click discrimination part, and cross-talk avoidance part. Two types of MEMS inertial sensors are embedded into the wearable input device to measure the angular velocity of a hand (hand movement) and the acceleration rates at the ends of fingers (finger-click motion). The experiment applied to the $SCURRY^{TM}$ device shows the improved stability and performance.
