  • Activated carbons are the microporous carbonaceous adsorbents which are prepared from carbon-containing source materials such as wood, coal, lignite, peteroleum and sometimes synthetic high polymers. [1-2] Activated carbons shows an ability to adsorbe hydrocarbons of the gas phase. Activated carbons are used in the purification of many kinds of gas phases like hexane, benzene, toluene, gasoline, phenol etc.[3] In this study, cokes from bitminous coal were activated for the purpose of preparing the activated carbons by steam activation. The effect of the activation temperature, time, steam concentration and flow rate on the n-butane adsorption, burn off, surface area and average pore size of the activated carbons, were investigated. The adsorption characteristics of the activated carbons for gasoline are indirectly estimated by n-butane adsorption.

  • In this paper, vertically aligned (VA) liquid crystal (LC) modes were investigated using the alkyl chain ordering effect of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) prepared on the anisotropic inorganic surface. On the anisotropic surface prepared through oblique ion beam irradiations, the SAM molecules are adsorbed, producing macroscopic alkyl chain ordering, which can determine the pretilt direction of the vertically aligned LC molecules through the intermolecular interactions on the surface.

  • One-Drop-Filling (ODF) process is an advanced vacuum filling process in LCoS manufacture line. The merits not only increase the throughput of liquid crystal filling process but also reduce the number of equipments. Studying application of ODF process in LCoS panel manufacturing is the purpose of is this article. The accuracy of liquid crystal drop size, the stability of seal dispensing and the nozzle size etc. In the tiny panel manufacture are more important than those factors in normal panel manufacture.

  • The article presents the recent research development in polymer ferroelectric non-volatile memory. A brief overview is given of the history of ferroelectric memory and device architectures based on inorganic ferroelectric materials. Particular emphasis is made on device elements such as metal/ferroelectric/metal type capacitor, metal-ferroelectric-insulator-semiconductor (MFIS) and ferroelectric field effect transistor (FeFET) with ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and its copolymers with trifluoroethylene (TrFE). In addition, various material and process issues for realization of polymer ferroelectric non-volatile memory are discussed, including the control of crystal polymorphs, film thickness, crystallization and crystal orientation and the unconventional patterning techniques.

  • 광굴절 매질은 높은 감도와 실시간 정보의 재기록 특성 때문에 동적 홀로그램과 그밖에 다른 광 신호 처리 소자로써 널리 연구되어지고 있다. 동적 홀로그램 매질에는 다중 양자 우물 구조(multiple quantum well structures), 네마틱 액정(nematic liquid crystals), 광굴절 결정(photorefractive crystal)과 폴리머 등의 다양한 종류의 형태가 있다. 특히 광굴절 고분자(photorefractive polymer)는 다양한 종류와 크기로 제작이 가능하며, 빠른 처리속도, 높은 이득계수(gain coefficient) 등으로 인하여 기존의 무기물 광굴절 결정(inorganic photorefractive crystal)을 대체할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다.   • The GaN thick films were deposited on sapphire substrates by the chloride vapor phase epitaxy (CVPE) technique suing the GaCl3-NH3-N2 chemistry. Thermodynamic simulations were carried out to predict the optimum process windows, and the results were compared with the experiments. A large difference in the growth temperature was observed between the calculation an the experiment, and it indicated that the growth of GaN by the CVPE technique is kinetically limited.

  • LaAlO3d single phase used as the butter layer on Si wafer for YBa2Cu3O7-$\delta$ superconductor application were prepared by solid state reaction method and by self-sustaining combustion process. The microstructure and crystallity of synthesiszed LaAlO3 powder studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD), specific surface area and sintering characteristics fo powder were investigated by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and dilatometer respectively. In solid state reaction method, it is difficult to obtain LaAlO3 single phase up to 150$0^{\circ}C$ period. However, in self-sustaining combustion process, it is to easy to do it only $650^{\circ}C$. Based on the results of analysis of dilatometer it is easier to obtain high sintering density (98.87%) in self-sustaining combustion process than in the solid state reaction method. This reason is that the average particle size prepared by self-sustaining combustion process is nano crystal size and has high specific surface are value(56.54 $m^2$/g) compared with that by solid state reaction method. Also, LaAlO3 layer on the Si wafer has been achieved by screen printing and sintering method. Even though the sintering temperature is 130$0^{\circ}C$, the phenomena of silicon out diffusion in LaAlO3/Si interphase are not observed.

  • This paper introduces the characteristics of SnO2 inorganic film deposited by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering as an alternative alignment layer for liquid crystal display (LCD) applications. The pretilt angle of the SnO2 layer was shown to be a function of the ion beam(IB) incident angle, a planer alignment of nematic liquid crystal was achieved. The about $1.8^{\circ}$ of stable pretilt angle was achieved at the range from 1500 ~ 2500eV of incident energy. To characterize the film shows atomic force microscopy (AFM) on the IB irradiated SnO2 surfaceand the X-ray phtoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the liquid crystal(LC) alignment on the IB irradiated $SnO_2$ surface was due to the reformation of Sn-O bonds. Also, Figure 1 shows that The alignment capability of the IB irradiated SnO2 layers is maintained until annealing temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Comparable electro-optical characteristics to rubbed polyimide were also achieved.

  • The Rapid Expansion of Supercritical fluid Solutions (RESS) process was applied to particles coating. Microcapsules prepared by spray drying were used as the core particles, and two kinds of paraffin were used as the coating materials. Supercritical $CO_{2}$ solutions of paraffin were expanded through the short nozzle into the bed that was fluidized by air. Extraction temperature and pressure were varied at $50~120^{\circ}C$, $150~200\;kg/\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. The thickness of theoritical coating layer ws measured, and precipitate coating layer on surface was analyzed by using SEM, FT-IR. The release behaviors of $Mg^{2+}$ ions were inspected by atomic absorbance spectrophtometer.
