  • In this study, the performance characteristics of a high temperature heat pump dryer that is able to raise the air temperature up to $80^{\circ}C$ by using waste heat as heat source were investigated numerically. The main components of the heat pump dryer were modeling as a compressor, condenser, evaporator and expansion device, and R245fa was selected as refrigerant. Experiments were also conducted to validate the numerical data. As a result, when the evaporator air inlet temperature increased from $50^{\circ}C$ to $65^{\circ}C$, the numerical results of the hot air temperature at outlet and heat pump COP were about 8~11% and 5~8% higher than that of experimental ones, respectively.

  • This study investigated the thermal hydraulic issues in the Containment Filtered Venting System (CFVS) for a long operating time using the MELCOR computer code. The modeling of the CFVS, including the models for pool scrubbing and the filter, was added to the input file for the OPR-1000, and a Station Blackout (SBO) was chosen as an accident scenario. Although depressurization in the containment building as a primary objective of the CFVS was successful, the decontamination feature by scrubbing and filtering in the CFVS for a long operating time could fail by the continuous evaporation of the scrubbing solution. After the operation of the CFVS, the atmosphere temperature in the CFVS became slightly above the water saturation temperature owing to the release of an amount of steam with high temperature from the containment building to the scrubbing solution. Reduced pipe diameters at the inlet and outlet of the CFVS vessel mitigated the evaporation of scrubbing water by controlling the amount of high-temperature steam and the water saturation temperature.

  • In tradition, there have been two kinds of drying methods, which are sun drying and artificial drying. The sun drying method which has been adopted traditionally has been replaced by the hot-air drying method which is one of the most general methods of artificial drying, with its simple drying system, low initial cost of drying plant, and easy operating method. But the hot-air drying method has some defects ; (1)much energy loss happens due to the discharge of hot air during the drying process, (2)control of drying rate is not easy on account of changing relative humidity of inlet air for uniform hot air temperature, (3)high temperature of floods in drying process brings about the production of low-grade drying products. Also, the hot-air drying method is inducing environmental and sanitary problems which are resulting from the emission of high temperature and high humidity air, including stick on the drying progress. Vacuum drying technique, whose drying time and 7uantity of exhausting energy is about 1/3 ~1/4 of hot air drying, is very excellent in the drying efficiency. As the results, it took about 20 hours for material to reach about 18% of the final moisture content in order to store products for a long time, from about 470% of the early moisture content at the beginning of drying, and maximum drying rate comes to about $0.35 kg/m^2hr$ at about 350% of the moisture content.

  • We have developed a numerical model to analyze flow dynamics and heat transfer characteristics of the cooling water in a circular rotating magnetron cathode by a moving boundary grid method realized in a commercial multiphysics package, CFD-ACE+. The numerical model is composed of a target, dual mass rotating cathode and cooling water connections. When the inlet and outlet of the cooling water are offset by the same distance from the rotation axis, the temperature at the center is higher by $50^{\circ}C$ at maximum. At 5 mm away from the target surface, the temperature profile showed typical center high characteristic. At heat input of 30 kW, the maximum temperature change of the cooling water hits $6^{\circ}C$ within 0.5 sec under 60 rpm. With a cooling water configuration of center in/edge out, the temperature of the center region of the target gets lowered. Within 100 seconds of plasma operation time, the cooling water temperature keeps getting higher.

  • In this study, the heat transfer process around the finned channel tubes is numerically examined. Serially arranged tubes of an evaporator were used for heat exchange. The numerical analysis results confirmed that the vortex generated at the rear of the channel pipe was caused by the fin. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that the temperature difference was large between the inlet and outlet ends of the fin. The temperature of the location where the fin was attached to the channel pipe was found to be close to the surface temperature of the channel wall. However, the temperature rose rapidly closer to the ambient air temperature of 350 K towards the fin end, located at a distance of 0.035 m; it was found to have a significant influence on the heat transfer around the fin-attached channel tube. The wider the vertical flow path, the lower the total heat transfer coefficient. However, the overall heat transfer coefficient increased as the horizontal flow path narrowed. The increment is attributed to an increase in the heat transfer amount due to increased heat transfer surface.

  • Global efforts to reduce carbon emissions have focused attention on the development of hydrogen energy and the development of various hydrogen mobility requires mobile hydrogen charging stations. In this study, the flow characteristics of the flow control hydrogen valve for mobile hydrogen charging equipment were studied according to the temperature change of hydrogen gas. The inlet pressure was 100 MPa, the outlet pressure to 70 MPa, and temperature condition was set -40℃ to 85℃. As a result, the difference in the valve flow coefficient, which determines the capacity of the valve, showed a difference within 5% depending on the temperature.

  • The hard turning process defined as a single point turning of materials harder than $H_{R}$C 58 differs from conventional turning because of hardness of the work materials and cutting toos needed in the process. In hard turning, tool life is very short, of the order of a few minutes, during which the cutting tool is subjected to the extremes of stress and temperature. In this regard, it is well known that CBN tool is proper for this process in spite of expensive cost. In this research, we studied the feasibility of the use of the low cost cutting tool such as a aTiN coated tool. To this end, a new cooling system was designed with an air-oil method for reducing tool temperature, which is based on the principle of air vortex flow. That is, the outlet temperature of the air becomes aver 20 .deg. C lower than atmosphere temperature by entering pressurized air of 5kgf/c $m^{2}$ into the inlet. This cooled air ejected to the top of the cutting tool lowered tool temperature, which reduced the wear of a TiN coated tool by the 30% of CBN tool life with respect to the same cutting length.h.

  • Heat pipe cooled reactors have gained attention as a potential solution for nuclear power generation in space and deep sea applications because of their simple design, scalability, safety and reliability. However, under complex operating conditions, a control strategy for variable load operation is necessary. This paper presents a two-dimensional transient characteristics analysis program for a heat pipe cooled reactor and proposes a variable load control strategy using the recuperator bypass (CSURB). The program was verified against previous studies, and steady-state and step-load operating conditions were calculated. For normal operating condition, the predicted temperature distribution with constant heat pipe temperature boundary conditions agrees well with the literature, with a maximum temperature difference of 0.4 K. With the implementation of the control strategy using the recuperator bypass (CSURB) proposed in this paper, it becomes feasible to achieve variable load operation and return the system to a steady state solely through the self-regulation of the reactor, without the need to operate the control drum. The average temperature difference of the fuel does not exceed 1 % at the four power levels of 70 %,80 %, 90 % and 100 % Full power. The output power of the turbine can match the load change process, and the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the turbine increases as the power decreases.

  • Nowadays, the technique to deal with the waste gas of perfluorinated compounds using plasma has been developed. As the effective decomposition techniques at many research centers and companies were investigated at home and abroad, the products have been improved with various methods. This study aims to guess the distributions of pressure and temperature through the thermal and fluid analyses inside the decomposition equipment model of waste gas. As the analysis result, the maximum pressure and the minimum pressure are 0.975Pa and -1.037Pa individually on the whole. It is shown that the pressure of air decreases gradually as the air flows from inlet to plane 1 and the pressure increases as the air flows from plane 1 to outlet. And the maximum temperature and the mimum temperature are $1718^{\circ}C$$26.07^{\circ}C$ individually on the whole. It is shown that the temperature of air increases gradually as the air flows from inlet to plane 4 and the temperature decreases as the air flows until outlet. It is thought that the data necessary to develop the real system can be applied by using the thermal and fluid analyses.

  • In the Shell coal gasification process, the syngas produced in a gasifier passes through a syngas cooler for steam production and temperature control for gas cleaning. Fly slag present in the syngas may cause major operational problems such as erosion, slagging, and corrosion, especially in the upper part of the syngas cooler (gas reversal chamber, GRC). This study investigates the flow, heat transfer and particle behaviors in the GRC for a 300 MWe IGCC process using computational fluid dynamics. Three operational loads of 100%, 75% and 50% were considered. The gas and particle flows directly impinged on the wall opposite to the syngas inlet, which may lead to erosion of the membrane wall. The heat transfer to the wall was mainly by convection which was larger on the side wall at the inlet level due to the expansion of the cross-section. In the evaporator below the GRC, the particles were concentrated more on the outer channels, which needs to be considered for alleviation of fouling and blockage.
