This study discusses a fuel injector test bench containing a mechanical type fuel supply system for heavy duty diesel engine. The main focus of this study was to evaluate the design stability of the test bench, which basically measures the injector durability of a multi-hole heavy duty injector by using pure diesel as a test fuel. In this experiment, diesel spray was controlled by a specially designed control box and all the experiments were carried out to measure e.g. fuel injection pressure and fuel injection quantity to understand the injection status which is interlinked with the stability factor of total test bench design. Also, the durability test was performed to understand the heavy duty operation lastingness of the designed system and the flow rate of the installed distributor pump in the fuel supply system of this studying test bench was compared with LO-1 and LO-2 pump. The results of the above mention tests revealed that the injector test bench design and control system can serve the purpose for heavy duty injector.

Structural design of the injector head part of a 7ton class thrust chamber was preformed. Structural stability of an injector head part is a very important factor for a thrust chamber of a liquid rocket engine because it is loaded by high pressure of liquid oxidizer and fuel in addition to thrust load. Structural design requirements were first defined to design the injector head part of the 7ton class thrust chamber and the basic configuration was designed on the basis of the design requirements. A high strength steel that has been locally developed was applied to the injector head part of the thrust chamber. A total of twelve design configurations have been analyzed to select structurally the most stable design configuration.

As the interest in lunar exploration increases, a throttleable engine is regarded as a important technology. Variable area injectors have been identified to be the most reliable throttling method. Pintle injector is a representative injector of the variable method. It has a simple design and inherent combustion stability. Therefore, it is necessary to research the pintle injector. The present study investigates the concept of the injector, the design factors, and the latest development trends for pintle injector design.
Recent common-rail injector of a diesel engine needs more smaller nozzle hole to meet the stringent emission regulation. But, small nozzle hole diameter can cause nozzle coking which is occurred due to the deposits of post-combustion products. Nozzle coking has a negative effect on the performance of fuel injector because it obstructs the fuel flow inside a nozzle hole. In this study DFSS (Design for six sigma) method was applied to find the effect of nozzle design parameter on nozzle coking. Total 9 injector samples were chosen and tested at diesel engine. The results show that nozzle hole diameter and K-factor have more effect on nozzle coking than A-mass and hole length. Large hole diameter and A-mass, small hole length and K-factor give more positive performance on nozzle coking in these experimental conditions. But, a performance about nozzle coking and exhaust gas emission shows the opposite tendency. Further study is needed to find the relation between nozzle coking and emission characteristic for the optimization of injector nozzle design.
Fluid flow in LPG injector is delayed momently around nozzle and leaked accidentally, then engine operation becomes unstable. When attached cutsole injector that we can prevent fuel from leaking. Attaching additional devices cause loss of power and pressure. In this study, We has analyzed the performance of the LPG injector nozzle by changing cutsole geometry numerously by using Computational Fluid Dynamics.

The housing of the fuel injector supports the rod, the niddle valve and the solenoid. Based on the procedure of process design, in this paper, the forming operation is designed by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The metal flow during the forming of the fuel injector housing is axisymmetric until the final forming process. The response surface method has been performed to reduce the under-fill and the maximum effective strain. From the results of RSM, the second order regression model of equation is calculated by the least square method and used to determine the optimal values of design variables by simultaneously considering the responses. It is noted that upper under-fill is affected by the design variables of the $2^{nd}$ forming process and lower under-fill is affected by the design variables of the 1st forming process.

This study aims to provide basic design data for a pintle injector and its combustion device through case study on the research and development of combustion devices to which a liquid-liquid pintle injector was applied. From data analysis, it was possible to provide the initial dimension of the combustion chamber and pintle injector based on the engine thrust, and the geometric characteristics of the high-efficiency injector. In addition, the pintle tip heat damage prevention mechanism and materials, face-shutoff pintle injector implementation method, and central propellant selection criteria were summarized. Theses results will be used as basic data for the design criteria of an initial pintle injector combustion device.

The basic data obtained in this research for single element performance were directly applied to the design of injector head(7 elements). Designed performance of the 7-element Swirl Coaxial injector was $245kg_f$ sea level thrust with 20bar combustion chamber pressure. Numerical analysis were performed to obtain the change of spray pattern for the design of injector head, and we confirmed the feasibility and application of those results. Hot tests were performed for the multi-element injector to compare with the performance of the single element injector and those can be applied to the design of scaled liquid rocket engine. The basic data obtained in this research can be directly applied to the real liquid rocket injector design.

This study presents a mathematical model and a sliding mode observer of the injection system for common rail diesel engines. The injector model consists of three subsystems: the actuator subsystem, the mechanical subsystem, and the hydraulic subsystem. In the actuator subsystem, the constitutive relations of piezoelectricity are used to model the actuator made up of piezoelectric material. Based on the proposed model, the observer estimates the injection rate and injection timing, and can play a vital role of sensorless control of fuel injection in the near future. The sliding mode theory is applied to the observer design in order to overcome model uncertainties. The injector model and observer are evaluated through the injector experiments. The simulation results of the injector model are in good agreement with the experimental data. The sliding mode observer can effectively estimate the injection timing and the injection rate of the injector.
