A Study on the Deflection of Large Mold for Injection Molding (대형 사출금형의 성형시 발생하는 금형 휨에 관한 연구)

  • Large injection molds commonly have molding defects such as flashes and variation of product thickness. In this study, we conducted injection molding CAE analysis to find out the cavity pressure and structural analysis to find out mold deflection as input load conditions injection pressure obtained from injection molding analysis. As the results from CAE analysis, we found which element is the most effective on the mold deflection and we suggested a mold design to minimize the mold deflection.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the formability and quality of the injection molded parts in the molds for molding the motorcycle rear cowl injection molded parts with different volumes at the same time, the flow of the molded parts is changed through the injection molding CAE analysis by changing the gate position, runner size and position. It is to find the optimum gate position, the diameter of the runner and the position where the balance is equal. The molded article formed by the optimization resulted in the uniformity of the molten resin at the same time at the corner of the product, thereby maintaining the flow balance favorable for mass production at lower injection pressure.

  • Injection molds are generally fabricated by assembling a number of plates in which the core and cavity components are assembled. This assembled structure has a number of contact interfaces where the heat transfer characteristics are affected by thermal contact resistance. In previous studies, numerical approaches were investigated to predict the effect of thermal contact resistance on the temperature distribution of injection molds. In this study, thermal-fluid coupled numerical analyses are performed to take into account the thermal contact effect on the numerical evaluation of the mold filling characteristics. Comparisons with experimental results show that the proposed coupled analysis provides more reliable results than the conventional analyses in predicting the mold filling characteristics by taking into account the effect of thermal contact resistance inside the injection mold assembly.

  • Overview of plastics processing is described and the research trend of the processing is also noted. The main manufacturing processes in the plastics industry are injection molding, blow molding, compression molding, transfer molding, extrusion and thermoforming. The principles of those processes have been discussed and molds for shaping operation have been mentioned. References for each process have also been presented.

  • The contraction rate is a very important element that dominate quality of product in plastic injection molding. To get wanted products, the contraction rate of used resin must be considered necessarily when designing plastic injection molds, and suitable deform conditions must be chosen with this. In this paper, important parts used in LED department were produced by injection mold using POM resin, and dimension error that happened by contraction rate of resin was corrected and reflected in die design and suitable deform conditions were decided.

  • Recently, the demand of high-productivity injection mold increases since the consumption of packaging grows in the world. Stack mold is composed of more than two molds and it has very high productivity and economic efficiency. In this study, stack mold was developed to improve productivity of vehicle fixed weather strip with TPV materials and to investigate the characteristic of injection molding using CAE.

A Study on the Wall Thickness Design for Injection Molding (사출 금형의 벽두께 설계 방법의 고찰)

  • The cavity of mold is exposed to high pressure during injection molding operation. Injection molded articles with deep depth are often demanded as design variety increases. Mold becomes weak and deformation increases as the mold depth increases. Thus the injection molds for deep depth articles should be designed to hold out high pressure or stress and large deformation. Through this study, equation for mold design was examined and suggested novel method to determine equation for mold design with deep depth. Novel equation developed in this study was consisted with cantilever and two points bending while previous equation was modified from just cantilever bending. The validity of novel equation was verified through computer simulation.
