A piezo-driven injector was applied with a purpose to evaluate the effect of induced voltage on spray characteristics. For this, injection rate, macroscopic imaging, ambient gas entrainment and particle sizing were carried out. It was shown that initial slope of injection rate was steeper as induced voltage increased, while slope of injection rate became mostly constant with fully opened needle. From macroscopoic imaging, longer spray tip penetration was produced with higher induced voltage. Moreover, wider spray angle was detected in the early stage of spray development, when higher induced voltage was applied. Ambient air entrainment rate was increased and particle size was reduced with higher induced voltage.
Limit equilibrium methods of slope stability analysis have been widely adopted mainly due to their simplicity and applicability. However, the conventional methods may not give reliable and convincing results for various geological conditions such as nonhomogeneous and anisotropic soils. Also, they do not take into account soil slope history nor the initial state of stress, for example excavation or fill placement. In contrast to the limit equilibrium analysis, the analysis of deformation and stress distribution by finite element method can deal with the complex loading sequence and the growth of inelastic zone with time. This paper proposes a technique to determine the critical slip surface as well as to calculate the factor of safety for shallow failure on partially saturated soil slope. Based on the effective stress field in finite element analysis, all stresses are estimated at each Gaussian point of elements. The search strategy for a noncircular critical slip surface along weak points is appropriate for rainfall-induced shallow slope failure. The change of unit weight by seepage force has an effect on the horizontal and vertical displacements on the soil slope. The Drucker-Prager failure criterion was adopted for stress-strain relation to calculate coupling hydraulic and mechanical behavior of the partially saturated soil slope.
In this paper experimental results are presented for the rheological behavior of high-solids saccharification of mixed northeast hardwood as a model feedstock. The experimental determination of the viscosity, shear stress, and shear rate relationships of the 10 to 20 percent slurry concentrations with constant enzyme concentrations were performed under variable rotational speed of a viscometer (2.0 to 200 RPM) at combined temperatures (50 to $30^{\circ}C$) for the initial four hours. The viscosities of saccharification slurries observed were in the ranges of 0.024 to 0.028, 0.401 to 0.058, and 0.840 to 0.087 Pa s for shear rates up to 100 reciprocal seconds at 10, 15, and 20 percent initial solids (w/v) respectively. The fluid behavior of the suspensions was modeled using the power-law, the Herschel-Bulkley, the Casson, and the Bingham model. The results showed that broth slurries were pseudoplastic with a yield stress. The model slope increased and the model intercept decreased with increasing fermentation time at shear rates normal for the fermentor. The broth slurries exhibited Newtonian behavior at high and low shear rates during initial saccharification process. The solid particle size ranged from 57.8 to $70.0{\mu}m$ for $40^{\circ}C$ and from 44.0 to 57.5 11m for combined temperatures at 10, 15, and 20 percent initial solids (w/v) respectively.

In this paper, the performance about the CDMA inital synchronization under the Rician fading channel, which is actively studied as a CAI for IMT2000(FPLMTS) is analyzed. Through the performance analysis with the double dwell serial search code acquisition, the minimum mean initial synchronization acquisition time vs signal detection threshold value and first dwell duration time respectively with parameters of false alarm probability, detection probability and test PN chips is presented and the results show the mean initial synchronization acquisition time is increased with lower slope than Rayleigh fading as the threshold value of the initial synchronization acquisition decision is increased.
Many researchers had examined the validity of using the high-to-low ratio between two fixed frequency band amplitudes (H/L-FFB) from the surface electromyography of a face and body as the first spectral index to assess muscle fatigue. Despite these studies, the disadvantage of this index is the lack of a criterion for choosing the optimal border frequency. We tested the potential of using the high-to-low ratio between two signal spectral moments (H/L-SSM), without fixed border frequencies, to evaluate muscle fatigue and predict endurance time ($T_{end}$), which was determined when the subject was exhausted and could no longer follow the fixed contraction cycle. Ten healthy participants performed five sets of voluntary isotonic contractions until they could only produce 10% and 20% of their maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). The $T_{end}$ values for all participants were $138{\pm}35s$ at 10% MVC and $69{\pm}20s$ at 20% MVC. Changes in conventional spectral indices, such as the mean power frequency (MPF), Dimitrov spectral index (DSI), H/L-FFB, and H/L-SSM, were extracted from surface EMG signals and were monitored using the initial slope computed every 10% of $T_{end}$ as a statistical indicator and compared as a predictor of $T_{end}$. Significant correlations were found between $T_{end}$ and the initial H/L-SSM slope as computed over 30% of $T_{end}$. In conclusion, initial H/L-SSM slope can be used to describe changes in the spectral content of surface EMG signals and can be employed as a good predictor of $T_{end}$ compared to that of conventional spectral indices.
The propagation of impact wave induced by landslide and debris flow occurred on the slope of lake, reservoir and bays is a three-dimensional natural phenomenon associated with strong interaction of debris flow and water flow in complex geometrical environments. We carried out 3D numerical modeling of such impact wave in a bay using a multiphase turbulence flow model and a rheology model for non-Newtonian debris flow. Numerical results are compared with previous experimental result to evaluate the performance of present numerical approach. The results underscore that the reasonable predictions of both thickness and speed of debris flow head penetrating below the water surface are crucial to accurately reproduce the maximum peak height and free surface profiles of impact wave. Two predictions computed using different initial debris flow thicknesses become different from the instant when the peaks of impact waves fall due to the gravity. Numerical modeling using relatively thick initial debris flow thickness appears to well reproduce the water surface profile of impact wave propagating across the bay as well as wave run-up on the opposite slope. The results show that the maximum run-up height on the opposite slope is not sensitive to the initial thickness of debris flows of same total volume. Meanwhile, appropriate rheology model for debris flow consisting of inviscid particle only should be employed to more accurately reproduce the debris flow propagating along the channel bottom.
Physicochemical properties of starch vermicelli (Dangmyun) made with different starches in laboratory were determined to develop a modified corn starch comparable to sweet potato starch which is highly expensive than corn starch but commonly used for starch vermicelli in Korea. Initial temperatures (Ti) of gelatinization of starch vermicelli made in laboratory measured by differential scanning calorimeter, which were above $60^{\circ}C$, were higher than those of starch vermicelli in the market. Their X-ray diffraction peaks were relatively sharp compared with those of starch vermicelli in the market, which showed that starches were not completely gelatinized during the process of starch vermicelli preparation in laboratory. Initial temperature (Ti) of corn starch vermicelli was decreased by $3^{\circ}C$ by hydroxypropylation but increased by $2.5^{\circ}C$ by oxidation. Hardness and compression slope of sweet potato starch vermicelli and mungbean starch vermicelli, which were $11,726{\sim}12,555\;g/cm^2$ and $29,914{\sim}30,604\;g/cm^2$, respectively, were the highest in the samples and those of waxy corn starch were lowest. Hardness and compression slope of starch vermicelli made with corn starch slightly oxidized in the concentration of 0.5% NaOCl at pH 9.0, $40^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. increased and found to be comparable to those of sweet potato starch vermicelli.
The purpose of study is to measure soil erosion quantity for elapsed four years from the fire on forest fired sites of Dong-gu, Daegu. This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of soil erosion by fire occurrence influencing on the soil erosion were. Also analysis result follows that the relations between soil erosion quantity and rainfall intensity, the slope and elapsed year. The results analysed were as follows: 1. Soil erosion by year of occurrence of forest fire was increased 1.9 to 5.7 times as rainfall intensity was increased by 30 m/hr, and 1.4 to 14.2% as degree of slope was increased by $10^{\circ}$. 2. In the first year of forest fire occurrence, soil erosion was fairly heavy for 10 minutes of initial rainfall of which rainfall intensity was 80 m/hr and degree of slope was $30^{\circ}$. The amount of soil erosion was gradually reduced as elapsed time. From two years after fire, the amount of soil erosion by rainfall intensity and degree of slope was nearly constant. 3. The amount of soil erosion by rainfall intensity and slope in accordance with elapsed time after fire was reduced 28.9 to 94.1% in three years after occurrence of forest fire as compared to the first year of fire. Soil erosion was fairly heavy by rainfall intensity and slope in the first year of fire, but it was gradually reduced from two years after fire. 4. In the analysis on influences of each factors on the amount of soil erosion on forest fired sites, the amount of soil erosion was significant differences in major impacts of each rainfall intensity, degree of slope and elapsed year after fire and interaction of rainfall intensity${\times}$degree of slope and rainfall intensity${\times}$elapsed year after fire, but no differences were observed in interaction of degree of slope${\times}$elapsed year after fire and rainfall intensity${\times}$degree of slope${\times}$elapsed year after fire. Rainfall intensity was the most affecting factor on the amount of soil erosion and followed by degree of slope and elapsed year after fire. 5. For correlation between soil erosion and affecting three factors, soil erosion showed significant positive relation with rainfall intensity and degree of slope at I % level, and significant negative relation with elapsed year after fire at 1 % level. 6. As a result of regression of affecting three factors on soil erosion. rainfall intensity was most significant impact factor in explaining the amount of soil erosion on forest fired sites, followed by degree of slope and elapsed year after forest fire. 7. The formula for estimating soil erosion using rainfall intensity, degree of slope and elapsed year after forest fire occurrence was made. S.E = 0.092R.I + 0.211D.S - 0.942E.Y(S.E : Soil erosion, R.I : Rainfall intensity, D.S : Degree of slope, E.Y : Elapsed year after forest fire occurrence)

The objective of this research was to experimentally test the effect of tillage methods on the reduction of runoff, non-point source (NPS) pollution load, sediment and discharge under a rainfall simulation. We used the runoff plots of $5m{\times}30m$ ($L{\times}W$) in size. Experimental treatments were conventional tillage (CT), CT-rice straw bundle (CT-RSB) and two no-till (NT) plots; slope of 3 % or 8 % ; and rainfall intensity of 30 mm/hr. The rainfall simulation was conducted to three times. The time to initial runoff from NT plots was less than that from CT plots regardless of the slope and it was delayed about 65~90 % compared to that of CT plot. And sediment discharge of 8 % slope reduced to 55 % compared to CT plot. But the sediment discharge was not occurred at 3 % slope. The NT and CT-RSB methods have a great possibility of reducing runoff and NPS pollution loads. Runoff rate of NT plots was significantly lower than those of CT plot. The average NPS pollution loads of the NT plots and CT-RSB plot reduced about 55~80 % and 2.1~40 % compared to those of the CT plots, respectively. It was also shown that runoff and NPS pollution loads reduction by NT method could be very significant and contribute to improve the water quality of streams in agricultural regions. It was concluded that the use of NT method on agricultural fields could reduce soil erosion and muddy runoff significantly and help improve the water quality and aquatic ecosystem.

Pennisetum aloperculoides is a key revegetation species mixed with other plants species and used for revegetating cut-slopes. The purpose of this research is to identify the effects of mixed seeding of revegetation plants on cut-slope revegetation with respect to the quantity of Pennisetum aloperculoides seeds. The coverage ratio and appearance frequency of Pennisetum aloperculoides, and other revegetation species were measured to assess the cut-slope revegetation. We divided Pennisetum treatments into four groups with different Pennisetum seed quantities of $0g/m^2$, $5g/m^2$, $10g/m^2$, and $15g/m^2$. For each treatment group, we mixed identical quantities of seeds from herbaceous flowers (bird's-boot trefoil, aster, chrysanthemums, golden coreopsis and china pink), cool-season turfgrasses, and woody plants (korean lespedeza, indigo and silk tree). The increase in the quantity of the Pennisetum seeds resulted in the higher coverage ratio for Pennisetum, but in the lower coverage ratio for herbaceous flowers, cool-season turfgrasses, and woody plants. We observed a short-term succession process in which the dominant species shifted in the following order: the initial species Pennisetum, herbaceous flowers, and then lastly woody plants. In case of the appearance frequency, we also observed the higher appearance frequency for Pennisetum and the lower appearance frequency for the other plants due to the increase in the quantity of Pennisetum seeds. Pennisetum, bird's-foot trefoil and china pink showed the tendency to decrease the appearance frequency from one month after seeding while cool-season turfgrasses became extinct due to summer drought. In the woody plants, the appearance frequencies of korean lespedeza and indigo were high due to the decrease in quantity of Pennisetum seeds. The silk trees were damaged from winter frost and none emerged at all in 2013 (the following year after the seeding). Korean lespedeza and indigo appeared to have the short-term rapid dominance over other treated revegetation plants.
