We used an optical observation system with a 0.6m wide-field telescope and 5 computers system in KASI (Korean Astronomy and Space Science Institute) for satellite optical observation. Optical data have errors that are caused by targeting, expose start time and end-point determination. Gauss method for initial orbit determination was tested using angle-only data simulated by KODAS. And suitable time span is confirmed for result which has minimum errors. Initial orbit determination results are proved that optical observation system in KASI is possible satellite tracking for a short period. And also through differential correction, initial orbit determination results are improved.
An optical tracking system has advantages for observing geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites relatively over other types of observation system. Regular surveying for unidentified space objects with the optical tracking system can be an early warning tool for the safety of five Korean active GEO satellites. Two strategies of positioning on the observed image of Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite 1 are tested and compared. Photometric method has a half root mean square error against streak method. Also eccentricity method for initial orbit determination (IOD) is tested with simulation data and real observation data. Under 10 minutes observation time interval, eccentricity method shows relatively better IOD results than the other time interval. For follow-up observation of unidentified space objects, at least two consecutive observations are needed in 5 minutes to determine orbit for geosynchronous orbit space objects.
The current study designs the mission orbit of the lunar CubeSat spacecraft to measure the lunar local magnetic anomaly. To perform this mission, the CubeSat will impact the lunar surface over the Reiner Gamma swirl on the Moon. Orbit analyses are conducted comprising ${\Delta}V$ and error propagation analysis for the CubeSat mission orbit. First, three possible orbit scenarios are presented in terms of the CubeSat's impacting trajectories. For each scenario, it is important to achieve mission objectives with a minimum ${\Delta}V$ since the CubeSat is limited in size and cost. Therefore, the ${\Delta}V$ needed for the CubeSat to maneuver from the initial orbit toward the impacting trajectory is analyzed for each orbit scenario. In addition, error propagation analysis is performed for each scenario to evaluate how initial errors, such as position error, velocity error, and maneuver error, that occur when the CubeSat is separated from the lunar orbiter, eventually affect the final impact position. As a result, the current study adopts a CubeSat release from the circular orbit at 100 km altitude and an impact slope of $15^{\circ}$, among the possible impacting scenarios. For this scenario, the required ${\Delta}V$ is calculated as the result of the ${\Delta}V$ analysis. It can be used to practically make an estimate of this specific mission's fuel budget. In addition, the current study suggests error constraints for ${\Delta}V$ for the mission.
Gauss and Laplace methods for initial orbit determination (IOD) are classical orbit determination tools and have been used very efficiently in optical satellite surveillance system. Several studies related to these two methods have been released until now. In this study, we found that the trends of IOD accuracy for different time interval between three pairs of measurement datas show unexpected results. Therefore, we checked the possible cause of these differences. In order to check various orbit types, we used most of satellite data which is able to obtain. To check the characteristics of methodology-only, we used simulated observation data. And we used real observation data for specific satellites to check the characteristics appeared when we applyed these methods to optical satellite surveillance system. As a result, we found that trends of IOD accuracy for time interval could be different because of satellite position observed.

In this paper, there is summarized the validation of ground test results through the telemetry acquired during on-orbit initial activation on solar-array drive assembly(SDA) of GK2A launched at Dec-5, 2018. Especially, the decision logic of SDA initial position and the compensation logic are validated and confirmed. The SDA initial position is needed when GK2A enter to geostationary orbit from transfer orbit and the compensation logic is for the accumulated position error due to the open-loop control. Up to now, it is normal operating. Also the periodic offset between the geostationary orbit and Sun position is found that it is not checked on design phase, and then the proper threshold value is applied.

In this paper, the observation performance of the electro-optical telescope system which surveils the unknown space objects, is analyzed by the Modeling & Simulation(M&S). The operation concept for the observation of the unknown space objects using two telescope systems is considered and the M&S models are constructed. Based on the operation concept for observing the unknown space objects, the estimated orbit is generated by Initial Orbit Determination(IOD) and the observation performance is analyzed according to the offset compensation cycle for the estimated orbit. The result of the M&S based analysis in this paper shows that the observation performance increases with the shorter offset compensation cycle, and decreases with the longer offset compensation cycle. Therefore, to improve the performance of the telescope system which surveils the unknown space objects, the observation system with accurate initial orbit determination or shorter offset compensation cycle should be designed and constructed.

The objective of this study was to optimize minimum-energy impulsive spacecraft intercept using genetic algorithms. A mathematical model was established on two-body system based on f and g solution and universal variable to address spacecraft intercept problem for non-coplanar elliptical orbits. This nonlinear problem includes many local optima due to discontinuity and strong nonlinearity. In addition, since it does not provide a closed-form solution, it must be solved using a numerical method. Therefore, the initial guess is that a very sensitive factor is needed to obtain globally optimal values. Genetic algorithms are effective for solving these kinds of optimization problems due to inherent properties of random search algorithms. The main goal of this paper was to find minimum energy solution for orbit transfer problem. The numerical solution using initial values evaluated by the genetic algorithm matched with results of Hohmann transfer. Such optimal solution for unrestricted arbitrary elliptic orbits using universal variables provides flexibility to solve orbit transfer problems.

In this article, we consider chaotic behavior happened in nonsmooth dynamical systems. To quantify such a behavior, a computation of Lyapunov exponents for chaotic orbits of a given nonsmooth dynamical system is focused. The Lyapunov exponent is a very important concept in chaotic theory, because this quantity measures the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in dynamical systems. Therefore, Lyapunov exponents can decide whether an orbit is chaos or not. To measure the sensitive dependence on initial conditions for nonsmooth dynamical systems, the calculation of Lyapunov exponent plays a key role, but in a theoretical point of view or based on the definition of Lyapunov exponents, Lyapunov exponents of nonsmooth orbit could not be calculated easily, because the Jacobian derivative at some point in the orbit may not exists. We use an algorithmic calculation method for computing Lyapunov exponents using time series for a two dimensional piecewise smooth dynamic system.

The batch least square filter is widely used for ground estimations. However, in orbit determination (OD) under inaccurate initial conditions and few measurement data the performance by the batch least square filter can lead an unstable results. To complement weak part of the batch filter, the batch unscented transformation without any linearization process is developed by ACL (Astrodynamics and Control Laboratory) in YONSEI University. In this paper, the batch unscented transformation is introduced and applied to satellite orbit determination using Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) data. Only range of the satellite measured from ground tracking stations is used for measurement data. The results of simulation test are compared with those of the weighted batch least square filter for various initial states errors (position and velocity). Simulation results show that the batch unscented transformation is comparable or slightly superior to batch least square filter in the orbit determination.

The gravitational radiation capture between unequal mass black holes without spins is investigated with numerical relativistic simulations, and compared with the Post-Newtonian approximations. The parabolic approximation which assumes that the gravitational radiation from a weakly hyperbolic orbit is the same as that from the parabolic orbit is adopted. Using the radiated energies from the parabolic orbit simulations, we have obtained the impact parameters (b) of the gravitational radiation captures for weakly hyperbolic orbits with respect to the initial energy. The most energetic encounters occur around the boundary between the direct merging and the fly-by orbits, and we find that several percent of the total ADM initial energy can be emitted at the peak. The equal mass BHs emit more energies than unequal mass BHs at the same initial orbital angular momentum in the case of the fly-by orbits. The impact parameters obtained with numerical relativity deviate from those in Post-Newtonian when the encounter is very strong ($b{\leq}100M$), and the deviations are more conspicuous at the high mass ratio.
