  • With the recent introduction of supply chain management (SCM), quality management has extended from within companies to between companies. As a result, supply chain quality management (SCQM) has received increased attention. However, existing SCQM studies only focus on what impact quality control in supply chains have on company performance while virtually no studies examine quality control efficiencies. This paper, therefore, evaluated the SCQM efficiency of a parent company and its partner companies by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) based on the Quality Collaboration Index for Supply Chain Management (QCI-SCM) conducted by the Korean Standards Association for its 'Quality Innovation-Based Building and Expansion of Business.' Study results showed that a parent company and its partners showed an overall average efficiency of approximately 80% (parent company 80.37%, partner company 79.05%). By also performing a discriminant analysis based on the calculated efficiency scores using DEA, factors that made companies efficient or inefficient were different between the two groups. In parent companies, efficiency and inefficiency were determined by factors such as communication, infra-structure, support, delivery of quality, and benefit sharing, whereas in partner companies, talent development, infrastructure, crisis management, and delivery of quality were the determining factors. In this paper, we examined the efficiency of SCQM and analyzed them from the perspective of both the parent company and partner companies to offer strategic SCQM insights.

Their growth process presents good lessons for the startup ecosystem and have a positive impact on national economic development and job creation. However, previous studies related to unicorn companies are focused on 'event studies' and 'case studies' such as characteristics of founders, environmental factors, business models and success/failure cases of companies already recognized as unicorns rather than a multifaceted approach. The occurrence of unicorn companies and Macroscopic analysis of related factors is lacking. Against this background, this study are considering the characteristics of unicorns examined through previous research and the current status unicorns with a high proportion of technology companies, the purpose was to analyze the impact of the country's technological competitiveness, such as 'technology human resource index', 'R&D index', and 'technology infrastructure index', on the increase in unicorn companies. For statistical analysis, data published by various international organizations, the Bank of Korea, and Statistics Korea from 2017 to 2020 and unicorn company data compiled by CB Insights were used as panel data for 44 countries to be tested by multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the number of science majors had a positive (+) effect on the increase of unicorn companies in the case of technology human resource index, and in the case of R&D index, the total amount of R&D investment had a positive (+) effect on the increase of unicorn companies, while the number of Triad Patents Families and the number of scientific and technological papers published had a negative (-) effect on the increase of unicorn companies. Finally, in the case of technology infrastructure index, it was confirmed that the number of the world's 500th-ranked universities had a positive (+) effect on the increase of unicorn companies. This study is the first to reveal the causal relationship between national technological competitiveness and unicorn company growth based on country-specific and time-series empirical data, which were insufficiently covered in previous studies. and compared to the UN's ranking of the global industrial competitiveness index and the OECD's total R&D investment by country, Korea is considered to have technological and growth potential, while the number of unicorn companies driving growth as leaders of the innovative economy is relatively small, so the research results can be used when establishing policies to discover and foster unicorn companies in the future.

  • In this study, we reviewed access transportation, operating companies, and airport infrastructure to revitalize Cheongju International Airport. Regarding access transportation infrastructure, it is necessary to promote a railway network connecting the metropolitan inland line and the central inland region. In addition, active administrative support from local governments is required to ensure smooth progress in railway and highway infrastructure linkage projects, such as the Osong Connecting Line and Chungbuk Line, high-speed rail network promotion, and expansion of the Chungbuk Eastern Axis Expressway and Central Expressway. Regarding operator access infrastructure, continuous efforts are required to add and attract airlines based at Cheongju International Airport. Regarding airport infrastructure, the Cheongju International Airport runway needs complete resurfacing due to its deterioration. Domestic passenger capacity has exceeded 6.5%, and considering the increase in import and export of high value-added goods in the North Chungcheong region, it is necessary to build and expand passenger terminals and cargo terminals. Cheongju International Airport's runway does not have enough runway length to operate large and ultra-large aircraft, so if it is extended from the existing 2,744m to 456m to 3,200m, several benefits can be expected in terms of revitalizing Cheongju Airport, such as route expansion.

This examination includes the development fields of smart fiber, investment size, information sources and the use degree of those, research-related infrastructure, relationship between companies' characteristics and their interests in smart fiber. Research data were collected by a survey. The definition and classification(4 areas and 12 development products) of smart fiber followed ones of Smart Fiber Technology Roadmap by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy. Data were analyzed using SPSS 11.0 program for frequency, means, t-test, and $X^2$-test. Among respondents, the numbers of dying and finish companies and export traders were the highest. It revealed that 19.6% of companies were developing smart fibers. Within 12 development products, vapor permeable/waterproof fiber showed to be most being developed, while medical fiber for human has not been developed and wasn't made an investment plan for developing. It was discovered that the biggest problem of smart fiber development was the lack of experts and the best outcome of smart fiber development was preoccupation of future market. It showed that companies got information from textile fairs but didn't often use information sources. The companies appeared to have a weak intention about research of smart fiber. The more important a company considered functionality of textile products and the more innovative and stabler the company was, the higher interest in smart fiber companies had. It was concluded that textile companies in Daegu/North Gyeongsang Province were aware of the importance of smart fiber development but they were not strongly interested in it and not enthusiastic in taking action on it.

  • Since the six sigma strategy was first introduced to Korean enterprises in 1997, it has been taken as an important business strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of major Korean companies under the global competitive environment. These major companies also demand their suppliers to implement six sigma. But small and medium sized companies have several barriers to overcome for successful implementation of six sigma. First, the financial status is not so sound to support initial expenses for launching six sigma. Second, physical and human resources are not sufficient for driving six sigma. And finally, the infrastructure is not well established to manage and support the six sigma program. In this paper, we suggest a method to overcome these barriers and propose a model for establishing six sigma in a small and medium sized company. We also provide some practical case studies.

  • This study examines the impact of mergers on the financial performance of the Jordanian public shareholding companies. The study employs data collected for a sample of 10 Jordanian non-financial public firms that were engaged in legal horizontal merger deals between 2000 and 2013. The data was collected from the published annual financial reports of the merging companies and comparative companies for three years before the merger and three years after the merger. Event study methodology was applied to examine the data. Four measures of financial performance (FP) were used, which are return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), earnings per share (EPS), and net profit margin (NPM). Two methods were used in the analysis - the change model and the intercept model using financial performance raw data and industry-adjusted data. The findings in general showed no significant impact of mergers on the financial performance of merging firms using the change model. However, by using the intercept model, significant impact of mergers on the financial performance was found on the sample of the study. The significant impact was found for mergers on the raw ROE of the merging firms, and on the ROA and NPM of the industry-adjusted firms.
