Nd:YAG 레이저에 의한 폴리테트라플루오르에틸렌 박막 증착 (Deposition of Polytetrafluoroethylene Thin Films by IR-pulsed Laser Ablation)

  • 레이저 용발법을 이용하여 폴리테트라플루오르에틸렌(PTFE: polytetrafluoroethylene) 박막을 증착하였다 사용한 레이저는 1064 nm Nd:YAG 레이저이고, 타겟은 그라파이트 분말이 도핑된 PTFE 펠릿(pellet) 이었다. 그라파이트는 포톤에너지를 효과적으로 흡수하여 열에너지로 전환시키고, 이 에너지를 인접한 PTFE에 전달한다. PTFE는 전달받은 열에너지에 의해서 열분해 된다. 타겟 표면에서 열분해에 의해 형성된 PTFE 단량체(monomer)들은 기판위에서 재중합반응(repolymerization)하여 필름을 형성하게 된다. 증착된 필름은 투명하고 결정화된 필름이었다. 주사전자현미경(SEM: scanning electron microscopy)과 원자현미경(AFM: atomic force microscopy)으로 분석한 결과, 필름의 표면은 박막의 두께가 증가할수록 섬유구조(fibrous structure)를 보였다. X선 광전자 분광기(XPS: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), 퓨리에 변화 적외선 분광기(FTIR: fouirer transform infrared spectroscopy)와 X선 회절분광기(XRD: X-ray diffraction)로 분석한 결과, 필름의 F/C 비는 1.7이고 분자축(molecular axis)은 기판과 나란했다.

Drying characteristics of mulberry fruit according to storage condition using far-infrared ray dryer for the production of semi-dried mulberry fruit

  • Using the relatively low-cost, far-infrared dryer inhibiting the destruction of a variety of physiologically active components of the mulberry fruit, we have studied to make semidry mulberry fruit that can be kept at room temperature for a long time. By adjusting the temperature of the far-infrared dryer step-by-step, we developed a semi-dry method of maintaining the shape of the mulberry fruit. In addition, by drying the coating of honey after removing the juice generated by the mulberry fruit thawing process improved the acceptability of the taste of fruit. We conducted heat treatment mulberry fruit into a $95^{\circ}C$ infrared dryer 5 hours to thaw the frozen mulberry fruit. After 10 to 20% of honey coating, the primary drying ($95^{\circ}C$, 5 hours) was implemented. then, the secondary drying was conducted after controlling the temperature of the far infrared dryer $60^{\circ}C$, for 10 hours. These manufacture process was able to obtain semi-dried mulberry fruit. Dry weight ratio and moisture content were around 25%, and around 16% level respectively. It was to enable long-term storage at room temperature. Therefore, it is suggested that the method of using the far-infrared drying machine to manufacture semi-dried mulberry fruit can be a way to improve the farm income if applied to the farm.

Gamma-ray Emission from Globular Clusters

  • Over the last few years, the data obtained using the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has provided new insights on high-energy processes in globular clusters, particularly those involving compact objects such as MilliSecond Pulsars (MSPs). Gamma-ray emission in the 100 MeV to 10 GeV range has been detected from more than a dozen globular clusters in our galaxy, including 47 Tucanae and Terzan 5. Based on a sample of known gammaray globular clusters, the empirical relations between gamma-ray luminosity and properties of globular clusters such as their stellar encounter rate, metallicity, and possible optical and infrared photon energy densities, have been derived. The measured gamma-ray spectra are generally described by a power law with a cut-off at a few gigaelectronvolts. Together with the detection of pulsed γ-rays from two MSPs in two different globular clusters, such spectral signature lends support to the hypothesis that γ-rays from globular clusters represent collective curvature emission from magnetospheres of MSPs in the clusters. Alternative models, involving Inverse-Compton (IC) emission of relativistic electrons that are accelerated close to MSPs or pulsar wind nebula shocks, have also been suggested. Observations at >100 GeV by using Fermi/LAT and atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes such as H.E.S.S.-II, MAGIC-II, VERITAS, and CTA will help to settle some questions unanswered by current data.

SNR 0104-72.3: A remnant of Type Ia Supernova in a Star-forming region?

  • We report our 110 ks Chandra observations of the supernova remnant (SNR) 0104-72.3 in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). The X-ray morphology shows two prominent lobes along the northwest-southeast direction and a soft faint arc in the east. Previous low resolution X-ray images attributed the unresolved emission from the southeastern lobe to a Be/X-ray star. Our high resolution Chandra data clearly shows that this emission is diffuse, shock-heated plasma, with negligible X-ray emission from the Be star. The eastern arc is positionally coincident with a filament seen in optical and infrared observations. Its X-ray spectrum is well fit by plasma of normal SMC abundances, suggesting that it is from shocked ambient gas. The X-ray spectra of the lobes show overabundant Fe, which is interpreted as emission from the reverse-shocked Fe-rich ejecta. The overall spectral characteristics of the lobes and the arc are similar to those of Type Ia SNRs, and we propose that SNR 0104-72.3 is the first case for a robust candidate Type Ia SNR in the SMC. On the other hand, the remnant appears to be interacting with dense clouds toward the east and to be associated with a nearby star-forming region. These features are unusual for a standard Type Ia SNR. Our results suggest an intriguing possibility that the progenitor of SNR 0104-72.3 might have been a white dwarf of a relatively young population.

Far Infrared Emissivity of Wood Material - Comparing the Three Heat Transfer Modes of Wood Box and Aluminum Box

  • In case of wood flooring, the high emissivity would be one of the most important properties especially as the cover material of underfloor heating system. The FIR (Far Infrared) materials such as wood emit FIR energy by heating, which has been used as the medical therapy such as dry sauna. This research investigated the emissivity and the emission power of wood composites by comparing the amount of the three heat transfer modes transferred by infrared radiation which came from the increased temperature of the bottom board of the plywood box by the heater. The results showed the value of radiation mode was the highest mode for the plywood box, and the convection mode was the main mode for the aluminum box. The rate of convection was 81.8% in the aluminum box and 48.2% in the plywood box, respectively. In case of the rate of radiation, the aluminum box showed only 15.4% and the plywood box showed 51%. The emissivity and the emission power of birch plywood showed the same values as those of wood. The amount of energy required for the temperature rising of water within vial in the aluminum box and in the plywood box were 3.32 kJ and 6.70 kJ respectively, which showed that the vial temperature of the plywood box was two times higher than that of the aluminum box.

S/Zn의 몰비에 따른 중적외선 투과용 ZnS 세라믹스의 소결과 광학적 특성 (Optical Properties of Mid-infrared Transparent ZnS Ceramics with Different Molar Ratio of S/Zn)

  • In this study, mid-infrared transparent zinc sulfide (ZnS) ceramics were fabricated through hydrothermal synthesis with different molar ratios of S/Zn (S/Zn = 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, and 1.6). The ZnS ceramics were sintered at a relatively low temperature of $850^{\circ}C$ to prevent the occurrence of the hexagonal phase featuring optical anisotropy. The phase composition, microstructure, and optical properties of the ZnS ceramics were subsequently investigated by employing X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy. The results obtained indicate that the ZnS nanoparticles feature the cubic phase, without the hexagonal phase. Moreover, with increasing S, the crystallinity and particle size of the ZnS nanoparticles increased. The crystallinity and density of the ZnS ceramics improved when the molar ratio of S was higher than the molar ratio of Zn, thereby enhancing the transmittance. Furthermore, the ZnS ceramic with an S/Zn value of 1.2 was found to exhibit the highest transmittance of approximately 69% owing to the reduced occurrence of the hexagonal phase and a high density of 99.8%.

원적외선건조와 원적외선-진공건조를 이용한 참나물의 품질변화 특성 (The Effect of Far Infrared Ray-Vacuum Drying on the Quality Changes of Pimpinella bracycarpa)

  • 참나물을 원적외선 건조기와 원적외선-진공건조기를 사용하여 건조할 때 건조조건에 따른 건조속도, 색도, 미생물 변화, 갈변도, 수화복원성 및 관능검사 등 건조참나물의 품질변화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 참나물의 건조속도는 건 조온도를 5$0^{\circ}C$, 6$0^{\circ}C$ 및 7$0^{\circ}C$로 하여 원적외선-진공건조를 하였을 때는 원적외선 건조한 경 우보다 건조시간이 약 17%이상 단축되었다. 색도변화는 건조온도가 높을수록 증가되었으며 원적외선진공건조가 원적외선보다 그 변화율이 작았다. 건조시간에 따른 참나물의 미생물변 화는 건조온도가 높을수록 그리고 건조시간이 길어질수록 감소하였으나 건조방법에는 큰 영 향을 받지 않았다. 건조방법과 건조온도에 따른 참나물의 수화복원성은 원적외선-진공건조 시료가 원적외선 건조시료보다 재수화 특성값이 높았으며, 특히 건조온도가 높을수록 복원 률이 우수하였다. 재수화 후의 관능적 품질은 낮은 온도에서 그리고 원적외선 건조 참나물 보다 원적외선-진공건조 참나물이 높은 점수를 얻었으며, 특히 관능적 색도면에서는 원적외 선 건조보다 원적외선-진공건조를 행한 경우에 훨씬 좋은 점수를 나타내었다. 따라서 원적 외선-진공건조를 사용할 경우 원적외선 단독보다는 건조 효율이 증대되며, 복원성과 색도의 안전성을 증진시킴으로써 참나물의 품질저하를 최소화할 수 있었다.
