Farmers need timely information on the nutritional status of their animals and the nutritive value of pastures and supplementary feeds if they are to apply successfully this existing nutritional information. Near infrared reflectance(NIR) spectroscopy has been used over the last forty years to analyse accurately protein, fiber, and other organic components in animal foods. NIR spectroscopy is a rapid, non-destructive, and non-polluting technology. When properly calibrated, NIR spectroscopy is used successfully with both concentrate and forage feeds. NIR methods predict in vitro digestibility accurately and precisely, and can predict in vivo digestibility at least as well as conventional "wet chemistry" methods such as in vivo digestion or the pepsin-cellulase method, and much more rapidly. NIR technology has been applied to the routine monitoring (through analysis of feces samples) of the nutritional status of cattle and other grazing animals. This report reviews the use of near infrared reflectance(NIR) spectroscopy to monitor the nutritive value of animal feeds and the nutritional status of grazing animals.
Self-assembled (SA) and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers of arachidic acid on silver surfaces have been investigated by a reflection-absorption Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Arachidic acid was adsorbed on silver as carboxylate with its two oxygen atoms bound symmetrically to the surface. Although both the SA and LB monolayers consisted of fully extended trans zigzag carbon chains, a closer examination indicated that the SA monotayers should possess a more ordered crystalline structure than the LB monolayers. The infrared spectral data dictated that the extent of methyl group exposure at the air-film interface was greater in the SA monolayers than the LB monolayers, in agreement with the contact angle measurement. From a theoretical analysis, the alkyl chains in each monolayers seemed to be tilted away from the surface normal by less than $3.5^{\circ}$, but in opposite directions. Arachidic acid monolayers were concluded to have same structure as stearic acid monolayers.
This study was described for measuring clinically relevant levels of glucose in undiluted plasma and whole blood by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Result from an initial measurement of major blood components powder was over-lapped the absorption bands of glucose at 1500-1600 nm. However, the NIR data of blood components were clearly separated by principle component analysis (PCA) space. By the use of partial least squares (PLS) regression, glucose concentrations in undiluted plasma and whole blood could be determined with standard errors of prediction (SEP) of 15 mg/dl and 76 mg/dl, respectively. Although these blood components possessed strong absorption bands that overlapped with the absorption bands of glucose, successful calibration models could be carried out.
SCUBA-2 North Ecliptic Pole survey, one of the ongoing JCMT large programs, is designed to obtain 850 ㎛ imaging data over ~4 deg2 around the NEP based on the AKARI NEP-Wide survey. By August 2019, the program is 50 % complete in terms of observing time, increasing the submillimeter coverage by a factor of 2 with the comparable depth. The rms measured in the deepest center is 0.92 mJy/beam, slightly above the 850 ㎛ confusion limit. With 4 σ detection, the source count is 50 % complete at 9 mJy. The surface density of submillimeter galaxies at this flux limit is 200 deg-2. Multi-wavelength identification of the 850 ㎛ sources was done through the likelihood analysis based on the far-infrared (250-500 ㎛), mid-infrared (18 ㎛), near-infrared (2-4 ㎛), and optical (i-band) source catalog. We are going to present morphologies and physical properties of 850 ㎛ selected submillimeter galaxies with the help of ancillary multi-wavelength datasets over the NEP area.
Identifying the components of residues that are not completely burned at the sites of fires site can provide valuable information for tracing the causes of fires. In order to clarify the types of plastic combustion residues found at the scenes of fires, we studied the residue formed after the combustion of polyethylene (PE) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). Plastic samples were burned at 200, 300, 350, 400, and $500^{\circ}C$ for 3 min using a cone calorimeter, and the changes in weight and combustion products were observed. The powder products obtained by lyophilization and pulverization of the combustion products obtained at each temperature were analyzed by a Fourier transform-near infrared (FT-NIR) spectrometer. When the PE samples were burned, the weight did not change up to $350^{\circ}C$, however a significant change in the weight could be measured above $400^{\circ}C$. The principal component analysis (PCA) of the FT-NIR spectra of the PE and ABS samples obtained at each temperature confirmed that the combustion residues at each temperature were PE and ABS, respectively. Therefore, the types of unburned plastics found at the sites of fires can be confirmed rapidly by near infrared spectroscopy.
According to a study on improving ship survivability, an IR signature represents the contrast radiance intensity between the radiation signature from a ship and the background signature. It was found from applying stealth techniques to the process of ship development that the IR signature is remarkably sensitive and dependent on the environment. In this study, marine climate data for the sea near the Korean Peninsula were collected, and the marine meteorological environment in Korean waters was defined. Based on this data, a study on the sensitivity of the IR signature of target objects was performed using analytical methods. The results of the research indicated that clouds have important effects on the infrared signature, but the velocity of the wind and the humidity have only slight effects on the IR signature. In addition, the air and seawater temperatures had hardly any effect on the IR signature, but it is judged that additional study is needed.
The atmospheric infrared sounder (AIRS) sensor loaded on the Aqua satellite observes the global vertical structure of atmosphere and enables verification of the water vapor distribution over the entire area of South Korea. In this study, we performed a comparative analysis of the accuracy of the total precipitable water (TPW) provided as the AIRS level 2 standard retrieval product by Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) over the South Korean area using the global positioning system (GPS) TPW data. The analysis TPW for the period of one year in 2008 showed that the accuracy of the data produced by the combination of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit sensor with the AIRS sensor to correct the effect of clouds (AIRS-X) was higher than that of the AIRS IR-only data (AIRS-I). The annual means of the root mean square error with reference to the GPS data were 5.2 kg/$m^2$ and 4.3 kg/$m^2$ for AIRS-I and AIRS-X, respectively. The accuracy of AIRS-X was higher in summer than in winter while measurement values of AIRS-I and AIRS-X were lower than those of GPS TPW to some extent.

In this paper, thermal response analysis of a temperature controlled three-axis accelerometer for high temperature environments with integrated micro-heaters and temperature sensors is investigated with finite element method (FEM) program, ANSYS and infrared thermal measurement systems. And availability to application fields from a viewpoint about short thermal response time is discussed. In this paper, the time of three-axis accelerometer for high temperatures becoming $300^{\circ}C$ by integrated micro-heaters and temperature sensors to reduce thermal drift characteristics was analyzed as a thermal response time of this device. The simulated thermal response time (time until SOI piezoresistors actually becomes $300^{\circ}C$) of three-axis accelerometer for high temperatures with ANSYS is about 0.6s, and measured result with infrared temperature measurement systems is about 0.64s. Experimental results using infrared thermal measurement systems agreed well with these theoretical results.
Red pepper peels stored with seeds or stems in the powder state at $30^{\circ}C$ resulted in decrease of quality components such as capsanthin, capsaicin and total sugars. The effect of seeds on the quality deterioration was larger than stems. A near-infrared reflectance spectroscopic(NIRS) method was evaluated for the determination of seed and stem contents in red pepper peels. The standard error of prediction was 1.76% in seeds and 0.43% in stems. It is concluded that the NIRS method is suitable for the determination of seen and stem contents in red pepper powder.

Ingests and fecal contamination on a poultry carcass is a food safety hazard due to potential microbiological contamination. A visible/near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer was used to discriminate among pure ingesta and fecal material, breast skin contaminated with ingesta or fecal material and uncontaminated breast skin. Birds were fed isocaloric diets formulated with either maize, mile, or wheat and soybean meal for protein requirements. Following completion of the feeding period (14 days), the birds were humanely processed and eviscerated to obtain ingests from the crop or proventriculus and feces from the duodenum, ceca, and colon portion of the digestive tract. Pure feces and ingesta, breast skin, and contaminated breast skin were scanned from 400 to 2500 nm and analyzed from 400 to 900 nm. Principal component analysis (PCA) of reflectance spectra was used to discriminate between contaminates and uncontaminated breast skin. Results indicate that visible (400 to 760 nm) and NIR 760-900 nm spectra can detect contaminates. From PCA analysis, key wavelengths were identified for discrimination of uncontaminated skin from contaminates based the evaluation of loadings weights.
