  • Optimum screening procedures using prior information are presented. An optimal cutoff value on the screening variable X minimizing the expected total cost is obtained for the normal model; it is assumed that a continuous screening variable X given a dichotomous performance variable T is normally distributed and that costs are incurred by screening inspection and misclassification errors. Methods for finding optimal cutoff values based on the prior distributions for unknown parameters are presented.

  • Most of multimedia processors for 2D/3D graphics acceleration use a lot of integer/floating point arithmetic units. We present a new architecture with an efficient ALU, built in a smaller chip size. It reduces instruction cycles significantly based on a foundation of multi-thread operation, variable length instruction words, dual phase operation, and phase instruction's coordination. We can decrease the number of instruction cycles up to 50%, and can achieve twice better performance.

  • Properties of multivariate variable sampling interval (VSI) Shewhart and CUSUM charts for monitoring mean vector of related quality variables are investigated. To evaluate average time to signal (ATS) and average number of switches (ANSW) of the proposed charts, Markov chain approaches and simulations are applied. Performances of the proposed charts are also investigated both when the process is in-control and when it is out-of-control.

  • Variable sampling rate (VSR) control charts vary the sampling interval and/or the sample size according to value of the control statistic. It is known that $\bar{X}$ charts with VSR scheme lead to large improvements in performance over those with fixed sampling rate (FSR) scheme. In this paper, we studied $\bar{X}$ charts with several VSR schemes, and compared their statistical performance each other.

  • A wireless intraocular (IOP) pressure sensor based on micro electro mechanical system (MEMS) technology is proposed. The proposed IOP sensor uses variable inductance according to the external pressure. The proposed sensor is composed of two flexible membranes: a ferrite bottom part, an inductor, and a capacitor. The inductance of the sensor varies according to the external pressure. The resonance frequency of the sensor is also varied, and this frequency is detected using an external coil. The external coil is designed with an FR-4 printed circuit board. The feasibility of the proposed sensor structure using variable inductance to detect the external pressure is successfully demonstrated.

  • The measurement of the key product quality index plays an important role in improving the production efficiency and ensuring the safety of the enterprise. Since the actual working conditions and parameters will inevitably change to some extent with time, such as drift of working point, wear of equipment and temperature change, etc., these will lead to the degradation of the quality variable prediction model. To deal with this problem, the selective integrated moving windows based principal component regression (SIMV-PCR) is proposed in this study. In the algorithm of traditional moving window, only the latest local process information is used, and the global process information will not be enough. In order to make full use of the process information contained in the past windows, a set of local models with differences are selected through hypothesis testing theory. The significance levels of both T - test and χ2 - test are used to judge whether there is identity between two local models. Then the models are integrated by Bayesian quality estimation to improve the accuracy of quality variable prediction. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive soft measurement method is verified by a numerical example and a practical industrial process.

  • When the nature of measuring a performance variable is destructive or very expensive, it is attractive to use a surrogate variable which is highly correlated with the performance variable and less expensive to measure. In this paper, we propose rectifying screening procedures using the performance and surrogate variables. Two screening procedures are considered; a statistically-based screening procedure to reduce the current proportion of nonconforming items to a specified lower value after screening, and an economically-based screening procedure where the screening limit is determined so that the expected cost is minimized. It is assumed that the surrogate variable given the performance variable is normally distributed with known mean and standard deviation. For two screening procedures, methods of finding the optimal solutions are presented and numerical examples are also given.

  • This paper accumulates the product structure data such as bond obligation ratio and investment ratio for variable insurance using crawling from the insurance company's API, also accumulates variable insurance income and project expenses for variable insurance using crawling from the API of life insurance association. From these accumulated data, the correlation coefficient between fund product and customer preference is calculated with an investment algorithm, and variable insurance funds by customer investment preference and product structure are recommended according to market conditions. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed variable insurance management system properly recommends and manages variable insurance according to customer preferences.
