The number of health problems was average 10.16 in the community-dwelling elderly. Conclusion: The results suggest the need to emphasize the importance of assessment of the health problem of the elderly. We can apply it in the distribution of community resources and the development of service providing programs by figure out the health problem and resource in need for the elderly in the community.
This study, aimed to categorize pattern of impatient's families in the ICU and to provide useful data for development of family-supportive program was conducted from June, 12 to Aug., 28, using Q-method. After reviewing the literature the researcher proceeded to interview 4 impatient's families in the ICU, developed the statement from consisting of 38 items, and then 30 impatient's families in the ICU were sampled. The collected data were coded after having been scaled from 1 to 9 points, and analyzed using the PC QUANL program. Three types were identified; The first type focused on self-regret about the impatient, the second type of families had some concerns for their health, and the third type was thinking of preparing for their future-lives, such as insurance and savings. It was common to feel powerlessness, regret, compassion, grief and anxiety in all types. They wanted to be given some information, the prognosis of patient and the way to overcome. The study will offer better understanding for family-centered approach and be useful for the system of orientation about impatients and their families.
This study was done to identify the effectiveness of applying a 'Nursing Process Program' to the nursing students' clinical practice. The data collection period was from September 2000 to January 2001, and the subjects of the study were 39 students who were doing clinical practice in the ICU. The results are as follows : 1. Most subjects had a personal computer, had experience in using computers for one year and usually did word processing and internet, and wanted computerization of nursing work. The average results of the questions on the need for, and the effectiveness of applying a 'Nursing Process Program' to clinical practice were, on five point scales, 4.07 and 4.21 respectively. 2. There were no significant differences in the mean scores for suhjects' attitudes toward computers and computer anxiety between before and after using a 'Nursing Process Program'. 3. The total case study frequency using a 'Nursing Process Program' was 68, and 'Risk for infection' was the most frequent nursing diagnosis.
The purpose of this study was to collect fundamental data for sex education by investigating the actual conditions of sex education, concerns about sex, knowledge of sex and consciousness about sex. The subjects were 212 middle school girls and 219 high school girls in Ggyeong Nam. The results were as follows 1. There was no significant difference between middle school girls in knowledge of sex. 2. The most frequently experienced problem concering other sex was about dating and the many consultants were friends. 3. The stimulation of sexual desire was brought by film$.$TV$.$VTR, and advertisement, and sex information was acquired from friends or magazines in both schools students. 4. The reason of high school students for needing sex education was to solve moral problems and the reason of middle school students was to solve the anxiety in adolescence. 5. The contents of sex education desired by students were; physiological differences of a man and woman, etiquette and matter with other sex, a sexual problem of teenager and pregnancy$.$delivery$.$child care.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore factors affecting uncertainty and general well-being based on Uncertainty in Illness Theory. Methods: Data were collected from 125 outpatients who had received hemodialysis. The path model among four concepts, such as period of hemodialysis, social support, uncertainty, and general well-being, was tested. Tangible support, positive social interaction, affectionate, and emotional/informational support were measured as social support. Adaptation in the model was operationalized as general well-being which consisted of anxiety, depression, positive well-being, self-control, and general health. Results: All paths were statistically significant at the level of ${\alpha}$=.05. The significant paths were the path from period of hemodialysis to uncertainty (t=-2.86), social support to uncertainty (t=-2.01), uncertainty to general wellbeing (t=-2.85), and social support to general well-being (t=3.55). Conclusion: Patients who perceived low uncertainty and high social support were likely to feel well-being. Therefore, nurses should give patients appropriate information according to their needs and have meaningful interaction with patients to reduce their uncertainty and render social support.
Problem based learning(PBL) is one of the learning strategies from the constructivism. It is a learning centered students. The tutors are facillitators as activators, helpers and cooperators not organizer in the classrooms. PBL makes that students learn creativity, independence, reasoning skits, communication and collaboration for problem solving. As the PBL process, students get the problems that are in real situation, discussed with others for brain storming, self directed study and revisited to the situation. They think critically and apply to the real situation. When students are to be physical therapists, they are easy to adopt their job and efficient to manage well. But inspite of a lot of advantages to them, there are much conflict to use as the learning strategies. Students perceived one of best learning method that they have experienced, but there are stress, burden, anxiety, timeless to prepare, lack of information and so on. PBL is effective to learning health oriented subjects, problem solving, even a lot preparation and processing for learning. It is reduced the differences between theories in colleges and practices in the fields. In processing of PBL, students get more many skills than the conventional learning. As trying many times to the classrooms, we can fixed to PBL with mistakes and conflict for better the development of the teaching and learning.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the test-retest reliability and to suggest methods to enhance reliability. Methods: Participants consisted of 145 patients with generalized anxiety disorder who were diagnosed by the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders. Participants were tested twice within one week. Results: The test-retest reliability of the Instrument of Pattern Identification for Jing Ji and Zheng Chong was examined in 145 patients and it was calculated as 0.3919. Internal Reliability of each part was calculated as 0.320~0.502. Reliability and concordance rate of symptoms are presented in the table. Frequency of symptoms and correlation between weight and frequency are also presented in the table. Conclusions: Based on these results, we have modified the Instrument of Pattern Identification for Jing Ji and Zheng Chong.
Gal (1-3) receptors are members of GPCR superfamily with seven transmembrane helices. The neuropeptide galanin mediates its effects through the receptor subtypes Gal1, Gal2, and Gal3 and has been implicated in anxiety and depression related behaviors. Galanin receptors are considered to be important targets for the development of novel antidepressant drugs. Owing to the importance of these receptors, a short communication about the sequential and structural studies about the functional Galanin (1-3) receptors has been reported. Structural studies have been hampered due to the lack of X-ray crystal structures. However with the availability of templates with close homologs comparative modeling could be encouraging. Sequence analysis was done for each receptors and homology modeling of each receptors were done with recently reported templates. Comparative analyses were done between these receptors to identify the relationships between them sequentially. Phylogram was generated between these receptors to identify the close homologue between this receptor and found that Gal2 and Gal3 receptors are closer. Our results could be useful for further structure based drug design targeting Gal1, Gal2 and Gal3 receptors.
